Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

So do the Florida newscasters put their weather people out there to get 'real' forecasting as Matthew is happening? (our newscasters do that here in Jersey when there's a snowstorm and it always boggles my mind).

I-26 is now one way from Charleston to I think Columbia. Saw a picture showing state troopers not letting anyone from i-77 to head south on 1-26. My parents left North Myrtle this am heading back to Charlotte.

I think yesterday governor said around 3 today they would use both sides for out only. If they are they have to keep it clear for while before they open it up. They should have big arms they drop down to block the exits so they can use for reverse.

over a decade ago there was a mass evac of the Low country and it took folks forever to get away - it was a nightmare.

I know that this thread is predominately people who are already at Disney or may be coming, but for anyone who may be moving inland from the coast, or know someone who is, you can find a list of hotels that still have ability here: http://www.visitflorida.com/en-us/eam.html

It's not limited to just the Orlando area, so you may need to do some fine tuning on your searches.

Rosen properties are also offering discounted rooms due to the storm to get people in safely.

Same in Georgia on I-16. I think after that is when they added the exit arms so they could use all lanes out.

I-26 South Carolina is NOW WEST BOUND ONLY.

They said last night from Folly (Charleston) to Columbia the normal less than 2 hour drive was 5 hours. And that was the early birds. Looked bad all day but right now LIVE ALL WESTBOUNG is moving well.

That's not a loop in NOAA's track. It could be the beginning of a loop. Some models are showing a possible loop. There are more models that show no looping and return to Florida. Could also go back out to sea. The wild card there is whether TS Nicole will push Matthew back, and how far.

Many of those evacuating from the coast are evacuating TO Orlando. Anyone leaving Orlando now is leaving because they want to, not because they are being told to by authorities.

They're providing a parking lot for the RVs from FW, but they're not going to allow people to stay in them. Too dangerous in a big windstorm.

I know DS team was heading down tomorrow and had about 18 rooms booked at http://calypsocay.com/ through weekend and they just cancelled them all.

It's a reasonable place to stay, newly renovated - if anyone is looking.

For those with theme park plans - Weather Channel forecasts for sustained Tropical Storm force winds of 40 - 50 mph with 100% Rain from 2:00 AM Friday - 3:00 PM Friday at the Walt Disney World Resort. I would guess this might be sufficient for closing the parks, but I don't have any inside info.

When I was a news cameraman this is exactly what they did in a storm (blizzards, hurricanes, nor'easters, tropical storms etc). They sent us out to stand in it (or drive to a location with good visuals) to report on how bad it was while telling everyone to "stay home and be safe!". It sucked.

BTW, I have cousins who are supposed to fly out from Long island to MCO on Saturday morning to head to WDW. What are the chances they'll be having their flight cancelled?

We are headed down tonight instead of tomorrow. The plan was to do MNSSHP Friday and Epcot Saturday. I'm wondering if we should use our Epcot tix tomorrow instead? If the storm is holding off until tomorrow night, might make a nicer day crowds wise? Thoughts?

Anyone know what they will do if the Halloween party is canceled? Refund or additional park tickets?

The worst of the conditions for the Orlando area should pass by Friday evening. Their flight should be fine.

They haven't made any announcement regarding the Halloween party's status, but some have said that received a refund for their tickets. Others have said that they were turned down for a refund.

They likely won't make an official status update until late tomorrow or into Friday though.

I imagine that sucked beyond. As for the flight, I would expect lots of overbooking so it'll be really important to "check in" to flight as soon as 24 hour prior window opens and get to airport early.

I haven't had time to read the whole thread. Here in Disney now MNSSHP has been cancel for tomorrow and from what I understand everyone was given a refund.

As of right now Disney has not been very accommodating with regards if we have to stay an extra day. Surprisingly universal has been the opposite. We just wanted to have a back up plan in case we do get hit.
