Anyone else out there gearing up for hurricane Isabel? I live in central MD and they have already closed schools for tomorrow. My son works at the local SuperFresh and they called him into work tonight as I guess they are expecting a lot of customers stocking up on the essentials.

Any other East coasters preparing for Issy??

I'm in southern PA and we're expecting 30-50 mph winds and 2-4 inches of rain, flash flooding, etc.

I am in northeastern Maryland. School is early dismissal tomorrow and closed for Friday. I don't think it will be too bad though.

I'm in South Jersey, DH just put all of our lawn furniture in the shed. Hope everyone stays safe. :)

Some tips I heard on our local Phila station regarding the storage of outdoor items include, disconnecting the gas bottle from the gas grill, shuting the valve, and storing the bottle in the garage or shed. Also throw the poolside furniture into the pool. Turn your outdoor table upside down so the wind won't pick it up.

Another point they mentioned was that any items that you have outdoors that damage someone else's property, remain your responsibility.

Since we don't usually get these kind of storm warnings in this area, I wasn't really sure what to do so I've just about cleared the yard of everything.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Lois

All my good thoughts and prayers are with all of you in the path of Issy. Keep yourselves safe and please let us know how you are doing as soon as you are able. ;)

I hope everyone stays safe. I am far away from the path of the storm.

in So Jersey. Although the storm will not directly hit - they are still talking about 50-60 mph winds. We just had soem relatives that live near there go and take in our deck furniture and put down the storm windows.

I almost wish I were gonna be there though LOL! We;ve had many hurricane parties over the years! I love these storms as long as they're not too bad.

I would pull kids from public school to help batten down the house if needed.

I would not store the grill's propane bottle indoors if I could avoid it. Anyway it is probably heavy enough and of a suitable shape not to be blown around, otherwise it could be tied to something outdoors.

Putting an "X" of masking tape or duct tape on a window reduces flying glass in case of breakage but does not add any protection from breakage proper.

I'm about 90 miles east of Va Beach. They've shut down nearly everything here. We're expecting a lot of damage.

Not expecting any hurricane here lol but I am definitely thinking of my family back home on the cape :(

stay safe you guys in the path of Issy

I'm just thinking of some friends who had to leave Newport news last night due to the storm(Cowboy Bebop board pals)

Schools here are closed. It's been breezy since last night around 9 but I don't think it will be bad here.

I am far removed from the storm, but wanted those of you in the path of Isabel to know that I was thinking about you and praying that everyone stays safe.

I am in the path of Isabel and we have just been upgraded from tropical storm watch to warning. Our problem is that our soil is already saturated. They predict wind speeds of up to 45 MPH with wind gusts of up to 60 MPH, and the high elevations could get higher winds, I'm on the very top of the Pocono Mountains, you think I can go any higher? LOL.
All my possible flying objects are in the shed, I'm worried about the wind and the trees though.
Everyone please stay safe!

We're already getting a nice breeze. I think I'm going to take down my flag, DH left it up. I don't want it to get ripped off the house.

Northern Virginia checking in.....
We're ready for her. We bought a generator on Sunday before they were all gone (we were actually buying it for another reason, but what great timing!!!), stocked up on water bottles, non-perishable food, the propane for the BBQ is full for cooking over the weekend (we'll have the fridge on the generator), all the cars are gassed up, yard furniture is inside, etc, etc. Now we're just sitting around and waiting for her.
Gimme your best shot, Izzey!!!!

This is a really stupid question, but are the post offices closed since Federal Government is closed?

I'm concerned about my brother in Virginia Beach--he lives one block over from the beach and was under mandatory evacuation, supposed to come up here yesterday. This morning he called and said he's staying. That was 8am, now I'm reading they've lost power. My sister is also in Virginia Beach, but not in the evacuation zone.

Our kids are being released at 12:15 and are off tomorrow. Mostly I'm concerned about a tornado touching down, we've had so many in the past several years and are right across the river from the La Plata Maryland area. Stay safe, everyone.

Richmond, VA here. We're already getting some rain and wind, but probably won't get the big stuff until late afternoon or early evening. I've strapped down or brought inside everything that needs to be, and we have plenty of food, water, and batteries.

We are in south central PA a little over an hour west of Harrisburg and they are predicting the eye to go through here. Up to 6 inches of rain and 50- 60 mph winds. Brought in all our patio furniture and everything else outside. Already closed a bunch of businesses, but haven't yet heard anything from the schools. My DD did say they told them they were probably going to do a tornado drill today. Guess they are getting prepared just in case.
