Hurricane Irma?

I was advised with both that I would need to pay the $200 fee regardless of rebooking or cancelling. Planning to rebook in November. Have a reservation on courtesy hold once they advise that the current reservation can be cancelled or changed without penalty.

I called this morning to cancel my UO package. I was scheduled to arrive next Wednesday. When I bought the hotel and ticket package, I also purchased the Cancel for Any a Reason insurance. After being transferred on the phone to a supervisor, I was fully refunded everything including the travel insurance.

Gov Scott recommended people looking for a hotel room use expedia.com. They are supposed to be updating in real time and should show available rooms.

Actually if u goto Expedia.com/Florida you can see an actual real time availability of hotels throughout Florida

If u visit the Expedia.com you get the normal site

yep I remember charley in 2004. They do not want you walking around in common areas. No one is being entertained at the resort during the hurricane. You are in your room and they want you to stay there.

Well, I don't know about that....a day or 2 in a nice safe Club Level room with access to the Club Lounge....if I had to be somewhere during Irma that would work for me!

I don't know Disney but Universal close the club level lounge to send the employees home. They try to keep minimum staff as well as food offerings this will look more like you are stuck in your room for 2 days . It was the right decision I would rather those employees home than catering to me.

Disney shouldn't have to say this. At this point, it's pretty clear what's going to happen. A reasoning person would know you don't head into a situation like this - especially when so many are trying to get away from it. It's not up to Disney to play nanny for everyone who makes a reservation. It's up to those people to take personal responsibility for themselves and make responsible decisions.

Exactly. Disney's priority is to get customers to give them their money in the most efficient way possible, and they do a very good job of it. Their responsibility to keep guests safe is a necessary byproduct of that goal, nothing more. Just because they're not turning people away doesn't mean they believe coming is a good idea or a safe thing to do, it just means they're trying to make the best out of bad situation with good customer service.

And you were wiser than me :). I did not get the cancel for any reason service so I think I will have to jump through more hoops to get it taken care of. Thus why I am waiting on the warning to be issued. Kudos to you for thinking ahead!

Again though, I blame Disney for this.

They can easily say " Guys, please stay home, we will reimburse you for everything you had planned here , we do NOT want you to come "

Which is basically how it is now, and the flights are being refunded or rebooked for free also.

It's just Disney wont say that.. They don't feel the need.. So if people are still coming, Disney can't complain in the end if things go sour at their resorts

Their CM's are the ones who are gonna be most stressed there

Except that why do we as adults need other adults to tell us to do the obvious? I'm in Texas, south east of Houston. We are still reeling from Harvey, and will be for quite a while. I've heard many complain about why more mandatory evacuations weren't ordered. We all had access to the best information available at the time - if someone chose to ride it out rather than leave, one must take some personal responsibility for that choice. There is no way to avoid knowing that this is a monster of a storm. If one really needs for Disney to say "don't come" in order to decide not to go, I find that ridiculous. People have their own reasons for still going, I suppose, but to say "well, Disney didn't say not to" is a poor excuse for a bad decision.

Many people buy bottled water during hurricanes. Sometimes water plants can get knocked out and you are under a boil water advisory.

Bottled water is a smart choice, especially if you have snack credits to burn.

Also, community water supplies can get contaminated by flooding.

Having bottled water (or even bottled tap water) around is always a good idea during emergencies.

Why would you blame Disney? If people are knowingly flying or driving into a hurricane path to go to Disney do they really need the resort to tell them not to come? I've been following this thread all week as I was going to fly down on Saturday through Tuesday with my children. I was watching the track all week and once it was clear it was hitting Florida, I cancelled. Disney refunded my money with no issue and while waiting on hold was not the best it was only 1 hour. Never did I think "I'm going to go unless Disney tells me not to."

I had a gulf island vacation booked for 9/11-18 with Disney days at F&W coming and going. The flights were booked as two one ways due to using points & cash. Southwest is currently only extending the hurricane policy through 9/17. The way the storm progressed we knew we weren't going, and now the island is under mandatory evacuation, so we had the option of full refund or re-booking for a later date. Once we got the new dates squared away, 9/20-27, I knew the flight down was covered but I wasn't sure about the flight back since I would have to pay the difference in airfare. The flight home was $50! Now I have $40 credit per ticket. Stay safe everyone!

Do you actually think that any of the resorts are going to be even close to partially staffed? People are NOT going to come in to work to cater to Club level or any level of traditional Disney service, this is a natural disaster ! Why can't Disney control the weather right?

I sat out a Hurricane in 1999 in Ft. Lauderdale that briefly hit a Cat 2 status. Lots of rain, but swept on by and out to sea quickly. Very minimal impact to anything as it stayed offshore and just disrupted things for a day or 2. This storm is planning on churning up the center of the state. Lots of rain, Lots of wind and over multiple days. Peoples lives are going to be impacted for quite some time and it will be far from "business as usual" after the storm. Why anyone would want to be in the middle of a natural disaster by choice is beyond me. 1st world problems I guess.

Just saying, people can also drink water out of the taps.

Simply put, people get wrong impressions and think to themselves " Well Disney hasn't told me not to come, so if it was THAT bad, that would not allow it "

It gives people with Disney Fever false hope.

They don't have to tell anybody, but the pure fact is that it helps in the situation, and believe it or not, some people need to be told. The same way people won't leave a hurricane bound shore line, until they are told LEAVE "

Wow. I am truly surprised. I thought we would have to pay the fee but had no choice at the time. Dh suggested I just call and ask. It honestly was like check in time the day we should have arrived. I just told them we had an emergency and they changed it with no problem. In fact the room was a little cheaper since we changed from spring break to early May.

I was very very impressed as we had a similar situation that we thought would make us change a previous Disney trip and they weren't nearly as accommodating.

Is it seriously THAT hard not to judge people? Oh my goodness. I'm about to towel the towel on this thread.
If people decide to come it not is their personal choice. The cm will have to be at the parks and resorts regardless.

Maybe we should start making suggestions for things/activities families can do with their kids while confined to rooms waiting out the storm. Lots of games you can play with a deck of cards or no cards at all.
I have also seen some of those travel games an drew drawing sets with markers in the gift shops.

Spending a second day trying to get through to guest services....hoping I am successful at keeping my free dining plan and moving the trip to Wednesday or Thursday. Hopefully everything will be okay by then! Has anyone else had any luck with keeping their plan? I see a few have and a few have not. Wonder what makes the difference? Does anyone know if they will waive the $200 cancellation fee yet?
