Hurricane Irma?

We are in the "still going" camp. Set to arrive tomorrow at 10:30 am at MCO. Will probably try to steal a little park time before the closures and then button down the hatches for a couple of days. We will be at Wilderness Lodge, so I can't say I will be sad about having to stay put for 2 days. Who else still plans on going in ahead of the storm and riding it out?

This is a really poor idea. You are contributing to the burden of Cast Members.

Must depend on who you get. We were to be at WDW TODAY (MK specifically) - we made the call on TUESDAY to cancel our trip 9/7-9/12. We were 100% refunded with NO CANCELLATION FEE. I was shocked because that's not what their policies state. I thought maybe they were just waiving the fees without advertising that the were.

I agree with you that WDW was great about all of this. Just having some issues with Universal. It may be because our stay was to begin on Wednesday of next week (proceeded by a stay at WDW from Friday to Wednesday). But without the Disney portion of the trip, it seems like a waste to travel down and take time off to go to Universal only, especially considering the state Florida may be in after the Hurricane. Thanks!

Just heard on the weather channel WDW will be closing early tomorrow and staying closed Sunday. They hope to resume normal operations Monday or Tuesday.

Which is why I keep sharing his posts.
He remains calm, gives you the facts, doesn't judge and doesn't panic. The fact that he is staying and all the other weather people are staying in Orlando, with their families should give you a good indication that although the storm will be strong and some damage and loss of power is expected, with the right preparations we will all be ok.

He's a meteorologist and they're news people. I'm sure they don't have a choice on evacuating. Saying otherwise is disingenuous.

Have you been reading this thread from the start? Even earlier in the week, there was plenty of judgement going on. Granted, it's gotten worse. If I had made a choice two days ago to get on a plane into Orlando, I'm pretty sure I would feel as though all the "you're an idiot for flying towards a hurricane" and "you're so selfish for consuming local resources and forcing local employees to work" comments were directed squarely at me, whether that's how they were intended or not.

That's the problem with generalized judgements. They leave no space for individual circumstances or informed choices.

I flew in Tuesday and originally had planned to stick it out, I didn't feel judged at all when I posted my plans. Everyone who replied was helpful and sympathetic. I guess I might have missed a few posts though...

"Use your snack credits NOW to stock up on edibles and water for the 2 days the parks are closed. You’ll see very long lines for any potential food items once all guests are required to return to resorts. Some folks purchase pizzas in advance. Be sure you have any necessary presciption medications. Charge your phones and backup battery devices in the event of a power outage. Try to use it sparingly and turn off all uncessary applications to save battery."

My brother, his wife, and their three cats are not leaving, but sheltering in place. They don't even act worried--I'd be a nervous wreck but that's how I'm put together. I'm in NC and that's still too close to this thing. Looks like it's gonna hit the western part of NC, reminds me a little of Hugo in 1989.

I like your spirit of adventure! Pulling together a WDW vacation takes a long time and I'd have hard time canceling all that. Having to hole up in great DVC resort for a couple of days is not a bad way to go. I've been in WDW for one hurricane and two tropical storms and we have some really great memories of those trips. Even when were trod-ding through the parks in torrential rain and wind. It was an adventure I'll never forget.

Heard an interview a few moments ago on the Weather Channel with the mayor or Orlando. At this late date, he's asking tourist to just stay put. He referenced the sturdiness of the Disney resorts and the abilities of the CM's to entertain as long as possible and prepare their guests for the next 48-72 hours. Just a personal observation from me...if you're scheduled to arrive at DW Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday of next week, please consider re-scheduling. Florida's resources will be stretched to the limits and beyond...don't add to their burden.

I'm alarmed at random people posting wrong information on Facebook, message board threads, etc. I truly hope people are ONLY relying on official announcements. Cuz the general public is pretty stupid when it comes to things like this. Uncle Joe's speculation is dangerous. And stupid. So many people are sheep and making huge changes to plans based on bad information.

If you are driving in, please avoid SC, water is gone here, canned goods are way low at stores, gas is up, and still up from Harvey. Even after the storm, this won't change immediately. If its this bad where I live 250 miles from the coast in SC, I can't imagine FL right now or right after.

We were at WL during hurricane charley in 2004. Had to stay in room for an entire day/night. Once my husband took elevator down to lobby to just check what was going on and the second the doors opened a CM was there to tell him to get back upstairs. Wasn't really a ton of fun.

Again though, I blame Disney for this.

They can easily say " Guys, please stay home, we will reimburse you for everything you had planned here , we do NOT want you to come "

Which is basically how it is now, and the flights are being refunded or rebooked for free also.

It's just Disney wont say that.. They don't feel the need.. So if people are still coming, Disney can't complain in the end if things go sour at their resorts

Their CM's are the ones who are gonna be most stressed there
