Hurricane Irma?

I just got off the phone with Frontier airlines and the representative told me that they won't cancel any flights until 48 hours prior to knowing for sure that it will hit the area.
Good to know. We're on Frontier flying in Saturday night for a 4 night trip. Fingers crossed. :crazy2:

I have not read through the whole thread so not sure if this has been said:
- There is NO WAY OF KNOWING the track for Florida as of today. Local weather people keep saying that we will not know until Wednesday night, and even then things can change.
-If you are coming to Orlando during the weekend to visit please don't stress out too much, I know this is easier said than done, but I remember last year with Matthew people changing plans, to come in earlier or later and the storm just shifted almost last minute and complete plans for these visitors were ruined. I cannot stress this enough, right know we think the storm might be close to us by Sunday, there is no way of knowing for sure, you change your plans and it starts moving faster or slower
-If you are coming to Orlando this weekend bring some extra cash, non perishable food, if you have kids maybe extra activities to do in the room...

I have been living here in Orlando for 20 years so I've been through many scenarios, the worst you can do right now is panic and start rearranging things without knowing with more certainty...keep an eye on it and have a plan B ready to go but don't jump the gun right now

What about Disney Good Neighbor hotels like Hilton Lake Buena Vista, right across from Downtown Disney? Are they as good during a hurricane as Disney hotels? In the "Disney bubble"?

We are staying at AKL from 6-21 September. We're coming from the UK so rescheduling our trip is almost impossible - do you think we'll be ok? It looks like a few of you are there around the same time which is reassuring. Is it possible that some of the resorts will be evacuated if it gets really bad, or is it likely that we'll all be staying put in our rooms?

This will be our first experience of a hurricane...

Long time Florida resident here.

You will be fine. Stay inside until the storm condtions pass. Most people that are injured, or worse, is a result of doing something stupid, like going outside, or driving into flooded areas. Also many people are injured, or worse, after the storm doing things like running a generator inside or trying to clean up their property.

How last minute can I call Disney and reschedule my trip? And will I be out any $?
Assuming it's hitting FL, we will plan to reschedule from 9/10-9/14 to 9/30-10/5 (pending available room)

It would be super helpful if my TA would come out from the rock she's hiding under haha

We are going the 7th through the 12th. If Irma does head straight for Florida, I think we will cancel our trip entirely. We will only be there for 5 nights, and Irma is likely to have an impact at least half of the time we are there. To me, it's not worth it. I'd rather postpone it.

We have the same travel dates - the 7th through the 12th. This would be our first ever trip to Disney and we've kept it entirely a surprise from our 10 and 8 year old sons. We are waiting until tomorrow at 6 p.m. to make the call and reschedule - but it's looking like we will. The more and more I see, I'm thinking it's not going to be good. I can handle a little rain as I just experienced the remnants of Harvey in the Ohio river valley - but to take the chance that my few days in DW would be spent in my resort room, not cool with that. If we had more time, I'd ride it out.

Totally bummed, I even already have our bags packed and we cooked up an scheme to tell them in the parking lot of the airport. I guess that's what we get for booking in September.

I do have to say that this forum has been a Godsend! I've been checking it regularly all day to see what people are doing, hearing, and thinking.

Well said. Thank you!

Ahh the joy of Florida and trip planning during hurricane season

All my local supermarkets are completely out of water. Really people are making this a bigger issue than what it is and once someone sees 3 people grab water, they grab some and tell their family and friends and it turns into this. No one this morning before 11am was grabbing water. Once the news said it shifted slightly south, water was wiped out within an hour. Good news is nearly every store gets more shipments either daily or every other day

Same dates, it must be so much harder to decide with kids, I'm so sorry :( Are you going to just not tell them at all if you reschedule? At least they can't be disappointed if they don't know. I wish my trip was a cancelled surprise so I wouldn't be this sad right now!

A major issue for me will be timing. Disney's website says that cancellations will be allowed provided there is a Hurricane Warning issued by the NHC. Someone else said that Hurricane Warnings are issued approx. 48 hours before it hits. This puts me in a tight spot, b/c I'm scheduled to arrive late Wednesday, likely before any warning is issued.

Question for those of you in the Orlando area. We are flying in on Wednesday the 6th. Our flight lands at 9:30. We are picking up our rental car and heading to the grocery store first thing. Is there still food left? We are going to grab some water, granola bars, soft drinks, maybe some bread, peanut butter, and jelly in case we get stuck in the room.

I have a little bit of a different situation than everyone else. We are scheduled to arrive in Disney on 9/15. BUT we live in Ft. Lauderdale and if Irma stays on her current path the eye of the storm will be over us Sunday afternoon. :( I've lived in South Florida my whole life and we are used to hurricanes. Though we have been very, very lucky the past 10 years. We are prepared and will be boarded up and waiting come Saturday morning. I'm just concerned that things will be in such a bad condition down here that we won't be able to leave by 9/15. I've had this "babymoon" trip (our last trip as a family of 3) planned for over a year and have been so looking forward to this trip (as I'm sure all of us are that are in this situation!). I know there probably isn't any advice to give, but I just need to let out my pity party. I think my husband is tired of hearing me stress...

Im curious about this as well. Im waiting to make any decision until thursday morning. We are scheduled to come in the early afternoon of the 9th through the 14th but also could stay until the 16th to make up missed park days if needed.

How does a state of emergency affect those travelling by car?

We are flying in Saturday night, arriving around 8 pm. We are definitely not canceling, unless SW stops flying. If we are able to change with no price increase, I will move up flight to earlier in the day.

I am thinking of canceling our rental car. My luck a tree would fall on it!! If I call Disney would I be able to get transportation thru Magical Express at this late date?

Well said. Thank you!

im in no position to cancel anything. if the airport is open and they let me fly in on Saturday morning - I'm on that flight :)

our other party flies in Monday night - and again, if they can fly in, they're coming.

we have a plan B set up - just in case...

living in Massachusetts, we always need a plan B when it comes to weather :ssst:

absolutely!!! you can call them now or even tomorrow and let them know your flight information and they will make the Magical Express reservation for you.

I'm flying Jet Blue, and again, if they're flying - I am on that plane :) !
