Hurricane Irma?

Just heard from our relatives in Clearwater. They are supposed to evacuate beginning tomorrow at 6AM. They are supposed to go to a Middle School on higher ground but have an offer from a friend further inland. Problem is the roads are a nightmare. Hope they will be safe.

Interesting that Clearwater is evacuating before Brevard, considering Brevard will be closer to and on the bad side of the storm. Can they take back roads?

I have to work tomorrow and although I go to work early enough, I am worried about traffic coming home. I work near the I-Drive area and there aren't a lot of options for heading northwest from there that won't be a part of evacuation routes. The problem is there are so many lakes to the west that the east-west options are limited.

Hi. You don't know me, and I don't know you, but we've both been member of DIS for a long time. I live in a house West of Orlando...can see WDW fireworks from my driveway, and am only two exits west of the Celebration/Disney exit on I-4. Anyway, if you need a safer place to be, you are welcome to come here. We have a generator at the ready, tarps to cover windows, you name it and we probably have it. Seriously, moved down here 8 yrs ago and this will be our first experience with a hurricane. One son and girlfriend live near Colonial Drive in Orlando and are coming here to ride out the storm. Other son works at Universal and his apt. is 15 min. from there. He and his gf are also coming here. Better to be with other people than left all by yourself to deal with it. The tropical storm winds are supposed to begin on Saturday and just continue to worsen through Monday. Please PM me or post here. Lynn

For anyone trying to find the most up-to-date info on Irma, the site in this link is excellent. The guy takes ALL weather info and consolidates it in one place, plus goes live around 9pm each night to explain all the graphs, etc. Stay safe everyone. http://spaghettimodels.com/

You're so awesome! Bless you.

Changed ME, now back on hold to cancel MNSSHP tickets. Not sure if I want to reschedule for Friday or Sunday parties, I have a feeling they will be packed. CM stated they cap the number of tickets, but that they may increase the number sold in order to accommodate people who cancelled earlier in the week.

That is the nicest thing I've read in four days. Thanks for being a solidly wonderful human being! (And best of luck to you as the storm passes through. Am keeping a good thought for all of y'all who live there.)
Thanks! I would've rathered a Cat 1 to be my first hurricane experience. I have closets....lots of closets to hide in.

I do not care for the latest model one bit. I'd been pretty adamant that we would be able to stay in our house with no problem, now we're considering leaving and heading to Disney. I'd wanted to stay with the house, but as my husband pointed out, me staying with it won't make a difference if the roof goes flying off.

So glad you are heading over. You have to protect the little ones, although I imagine Rolf is getting pretty big now! Hugs to you all from us Loungers. Be safe!!!

She is in the "A" evacuation zone, not sure exactly where. There is a county map with all areas marked on the county (Panellas?) website.

Does anyone know if we were to cancel----if our park tickets would be refunded as well?

We are actually considering switching things to Disneyland instead.
I believe if you booked through Disney all would be refunded. I booked a package to arrive tomorrow with park tickets and I was refunded for the entire trip. I just called and was on hold for 6 minutes. Call now and see what happens.

Up to 6 hours and 10 minutes on hold for Guest Services. Frustrating. I have to talk to guest services with having two reservations linked to same account.

Thank you. I think I just read the same article you are referencing and I sent it to her. It was scary to say the least. We're Canadian girls.. we know snowstorms. Hurricanes..not so much. BUT.. she's smart and she isn't looking to take risks, I think she's just trying to decide if they can make those flights. Obviously she doesn't want to leave her boyfriend. He's scheduled until Friday night in a critical care hospital. He's essential staff.

I did tell her I'd rather see her majorly inconvenienced than stuck in this storm and if she wanted my advice it was to pack up the dogs and leave now. She said she agreed with me. I think she's just terrified to leave her boyfriend behind.

I feel for everyone going thru this as Irma approaches I work for an acute care hospital (in the northeast) and during bad storms they offer to shelter family members of employees who have to work. I'm not sure if this is an option for her? But with their pets it's probably not something she would do if so-we all do a lot for our furried friends Best of luck to them.

This is the very best post in this very long thread. :)

I hope that ravenclawtrekkie takes you up on your offer. You are so right, no one should be alone during this beast of a storm.
(I'm also a big fan of Mike's.. i've been listening to him nightly at 9pm & have found him to be both calm & accurate (so far)

Stay safe!

Hey, I just realized I have no idea how our tickets work. We ordered them through Undercover Tourist (three day park hoppers). I don't think we assigned specific days to them -- should these be good for a certain amount of time? I bought them in April. Thanks for any info you can share.

I'm in St Pete (Pinellas County) and also Zone A. This is related to elevation and storm surge/flooding concerns. The COUNTY is not evacuating. Those in Zone A must evacuate to higher ground - be it a friend's house down the road, shelter, or out of town.

Zone A has until 8am Sunday to move higher.

Well you know it is bad when you run to WAWA and cant get a shake cause they are out of dairy products!! Stay safe my South Tampa neighbors

How is Tennessee as far as preparedness is anyone stocking up on gas in anticipation we are planning on driving through there my husband concern is not having gas to get to Disney

You are planning on driving on Monday from Tennessee to WDW? Right now, that does not seem like a good idea. Think the worst of the storm is going to hit WDW Sunday nightish and then travel north. How could you possibly drive down on Monday? You would be driving right into the storm.

Just an FYI and don't want to read through 169 pages. Weather channel just said that Orlando Int Airport will close at 5:00 p.m on Saturday. Everyone down there please be safe! I did Charley in 2014 at WDW, but this will be so much worse for Miami and perhaps Orlando. Hoping it veers east and goes out to the Atlantic!
