Does anyone know if they are evacuating FW yet? We are scheduled to go next month and am alittle "antsy" because of Charlie and now Frances.  Hope this terrible hurricane season gets over real soon.

I would doubt that they are doing anything at this moment. Too early.

What has us upset is that we were to be checking into FW on Friday. Does not look like we will be heading over.

John

I hope everyone in this storm's path is safe!

I think we've got a couple of DisCampers at FW right now. Parmtoo and lwestwise--if you are safe please let us know!

John VN--I hope you are able to reschedule for a 'calmer' time!

When we were there during Charley, FW would leave notices on our trailer about the hurricane and what FW was going to (or may) do if it became clear where the hurricane would hit. They evacuated us on Fri AM (by 9) and Charley arrived about 7 (I think). WDW has a plan so everyone will be safe I'm sure!

It is just tooooo bad they are being (or may be) hit again so soon. Really it is to soon to tell just where this hurricane will go, but I have heard on our new (in MD - which may or may not be true) that they have called for parts of the Eastern Coast Towns in FL to be evacuated.

I will be praying for everyone there!

We're back, we just missed Frances by a few days..............FW is already very wet, and lots of trees down from Charley. Trees are coming out of the ground from the rain and wind. I hope eveyone in Fl. is safe.

I was outside my mh when housekeeping pulled up to let me know that they were going to close FW (we had already decided to leave early). She told me that wdw was already 100% booked for the long weekend and they could not put any campers in the hotels and the people would have to find some where else to stay.

Mitz-
I would like to confirm that they had no where to put the Disney campers? How about those in cabins?

I have heard that in the past, they open the Contempoary Convention center as a shelter.

Does anyone know what they did this time around?

Well, I'd have probably headed home early, too, but that was a poor way to treat people--don't you think?

Glad you made it home safely, though, and hope you had a great time before you had to leave!

The cabins are closed too. We saw lots of trees that came down between the cabins(luckly none of them hit the roofs, some came pretty close). Housekeeping told me that anyone who had a res. for the longweekend would not be allowed in. They also were putting a new roof on HDD-trailsend when we were there-don't know if it will be shingles or the wooded tiles that they had.
On our way home we saw lots of cars from fla. parked everywhere in the rest areas with people sleeping in them and I mean LOTS.

Has anyone heard how FW faired during the storm? Are they flooded still??? Someone had posted that they were there prior to Frances and there was still alot of standing water from Charlie so I was wondering how bad is it now. Have they reopened FW?:wave2: :wave2:

I would also like to know how things in FW are looking now.......
I was told on Tuesday afternoon, that FW was booked to 100% full for the Labor Day weekend. When we were there earlier in the week they were only 26% full.
I'm sure they must have someway of keeping FW campers safe and getting them in resort rooms. They couldn't just send them home.........Alot of the hotel guest probably didn't go for the weekend b/c of weather, and this would open up alot of rooms for the evacuated families.

We were there during Charley and we all stayed either at POFQ or Riverside. Cabins were also included in the evacuation (toooooo many trees to worry about). We did hear the "Convention center as a shelter" line -- but we all had rooms. I think they have to say something like that just in case they can not find rooms for everyone. I'm sure not all the rooms in WDW were full. I do think they like to have all the RVs in one place so they will know what the damage is - if there is damage.

I am interested to find out about the campground -- when we left on Aug 17 there was still a lot of wet ground! I know it would be hard to get rid of that much water in such a short time. I hope everything is ok.

We were there from 8/21 to 9/01 and the ground was still extremely wet. There was not alot of rain during our stay, but enough to keep things "soggy"

We were there begining 8/28 and the weather was beautiful, a light breeze to keep things cool AT FIRST. Then the weather started getting so humid. We watched the Weather Channel so to know what to do. By Tues. We decided that we better just call it a trip and head home. We live in CHas. SC and if Orlando was missed, it may hit Chas. Either way we needed to get out of the evacuation traffic and/or secure our home.
That was the most depressing day for me to have to cut my Disney trip so short. The CM at the outpost said that they would be evacuating people on Friday to other resorts.

A note about Charly.
The campground and peacocks had very visible signs of Charly's visit. Trees down, the bushes and grass were just blown apart. The poor peacocks had no tail feathers left. Some had long white empty pieces of the shaft of the feather. However, they were much more plentiful in the campsites. We usually had atleast 12 on our site. I guess because the brush was not as full.

Thanks for all of your concerns. It feels good to have you friends thinking about us.

Another note. The campground was more empty than full. The CM said that any requests for extended stays or new reservations where an availability may become open were not being filled after Thurs.

Our time there, we enjoyed. The parks were not crowded, nor were the restaurants.
