Hurricane Ernesto to hit Florida?

None of the current models have this going anywhere near Florida, with Bermuda most likely to be in the firing line. The models have certainly been wrong in the past but this is w-a-y too soon to be worrying about it going anywhere near Orlando. By all means be aware of things like this, but rest assured Orlando looks very safe for the time being.

As usual, this is an over the top and unnecessary reaction from you. Try to maintain a satisfactory level of courtesy on this forum please.

Just the sort of comment I would expect from you.
Pot-Kettle-Black comes to mind.

Paul, don't say anymore or the force will get you as well. :)

Mr O, do you agree or disagree with the sentiment of what I said about media hype? You didn't respond.

There are those who feel that climate change is being overplayed. Inexorably if the experts who say the weather patterns are changing are correct we may well suffer more hurricanes in the Florida area, but whatever is actually happening the media should not use scare tactics.

Please discuss nicely and we may appreciate you views and if you are knowledgeable on these matters also learn from you, but please also dispense with the rhetoric.

I think this thread is degenerating into being personal, just for the record I think its very useful when SOMEONE posts details of a tropical storm or would-be-hurricane is on the move, not everyone has access to a television all day. Just as long as everyone keeps an eye on it and realises these things always take time to either fizzle out or gain momentum.
Please keep these threads but in an information-aware capacity only!

Yes I know it is Carol, and I'm sorry that this seems to happen, but what else can you do? You can't keep on taking it on the chin.

These threads are indeed very useful. Maybe I didn't do my homework well enough in the past (I haven't been to Florida for six years) but I never used to think of hurricanes etc. I guess last year, being such a bad one has brought the issues to the forefront of everyone's minds. Here's hoping that the remainder of this season is quiet to make up for 2005.

I agree it's important to keep updated on the progress of potential hurricanes, and the DIS is a great place to do that if you aren't a weather-watcher. If you have access to the DIS, you have access to on-line weather, so television isn't a necessity, but some people prefer not to check a weather website, and that's perfectly fine. I think the objections you are seeing stem from this sort of 'reporting':

Ernesto now a Hurricane, expected to be a Cat 2 when hitting land at the least. Latest track probability takes it over Florida and if so, will effect Kissimmee/Orlando area to some extent

Ernesto was never, according the most Orlando news stations, expected to be a Cat 2 (not to mention that being the 'least' it would be), and only one or two sources thought it would effect Orlando directly, but that was several days out. While it is terrific to see the OP posting about the hurricane, I'm afraid those were not the facts of the matter, hindsite not withstanding. That's why some on this post (myself included) are making a plea for not sensationalising, either via the media or here on the boards. At the same time, there is no objection to someone posting facts, which certainly can be helpful for those traveling during potential storms. :)

Just to underline board policy here, folks, the next OT post or personal attack will be the last on this thread. I'm very happy to see debate and genuine info posted about the weather situation, but tit-fot-tat 'Ya Boo!' responses are not what this site is all about. Much of this thread is good, informed discussion and genuine, personal (and accurate) observations are always welcome. But please stick to the topic.
