Hurricane Ernesto - headed for WDW

If the storm stays close to the projected track, you should miss the bulk of it.
They just said on the radio that they had reports from the Cuban weather authority that the storm was weakening (more than they had expected).
It is only a tropical storm now.
I will be there Saturday (9/2), the only thing I am worrying about is being able to wash my clothes before I leave-hopefully I will have power to do so!

(I am just North of Ft Lauderdale)
My sister and mom live in Coral Springs.

You'll be fine. By Thursday the storm will be approaching the SC coast. Your mom and sister are going to have a wet week...especially Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.

At this point it only looks like we'll be seeing 70 MPH winds and a bunch of rain. I expect WDW will get the same during the day on Wed.

We're half-shuttered. I'm going to wait and see before putting the rest of the stuff up.

I guess we'll all be watching the weather very closely over the next few days. Jim, I hope there will be no need to put up the rest of the shutters. All the best to you in Miami!!!

Seems as if all we Floridians are 'evacuating' to WDW!

:lmao: :lmao:.... what better place to "evacuate" to???

Seriously, I do hope all goes well for all you who live and who are visiting in the southern states... We'll say a prayer for your safety...

Stay safe all! Looks like HHI could get it as well. Could be a LOT of DVC resorts needing a few repairs soon.

We're going to err on the side of caution and treat this as a Category One hurricane, even though it will probably be just below hurricane strength when it hits us. So we'll be putting the rest of the shutters up today.

WDW will have a very wet day tomorrow, and I'd be surprised to see the parks open -- should be sustained tropical storm force winds all afternoon and evening, and I wouldn't think they'd run any of the transportation with those winds.

Stay safe Jim and everyone else.

And thank you for the updates, Jim. I was just thinking this morning that I missed your reports. I'd been looking on the miscellaneous board. Your reports certainly help everyone planning a DVC trip as well as those of us with loved ones in the WDW area. :thumbsup2

We are still undecided in putting up the shutters. Wilma's eye past over us last year and for a cat 2 or 3, I would definitely put it up. We've been through 2 cat 1's and felt pretty secure without shutters. No one in the neighborhood put their's up. So far no model has this storm intensifying beyond a weak cat 1. By the time it gets to central FL, it really should just be a rain event. I'm not sure they would close the parks for that.

Our thoughts are with you and your family. I understand the heavy rains have begun for you--and we expect ours soon enough. We just got our 'official TS warning' here in Marion County.

Here's hoping that putting up those shutters ends up just being some super calorie-burning aerobic exercise. Take good care! pixiedust:

My DW and I are a little nervous. We are planning our honeymoon (5 yrs late) at BWV...we are flying in from Chicago on Thursday at 11 am. If it passes up the east coast, are the airports usually ok and open a day afterwards??

If anyone has any helpful advice, please let me know. I don't care about rain at WDW, but we need to get down there!

Thanks

We are heading to VB in a little over a week, and I hope there isn't too much damage! Fingers crossed!

We use the "Max Protection Rule." We watch Max Mayfield's house, and if Max puts his shutters up, so do we. He put his up yesterday.

We got surprised by Katrina last year, so we have our shutters up now and will leave them up until Dec 1st.

Glad to see you still have a sense of humor about it JimMIA. Seriously I hope you stay safe and have no damage. Plus I am going to WDW Thusday so I want it to be gone. But the safety and well being of human life is much more important than my vacation (only a little bit though :))

You should be fine. I'd expect MCO to close for a while when winds reach TS force, but flying IN, you should be fine. Anyone flying OUT on Thursday may have some delays because of aircraft being repo'd prior to the storm, but you guys should be right on schedule.

In 2004, the tape didn't come off my sliding glass doors until Christmas...

This is not a joke! We'll leave them up, except for opening up a portion of the patio, they'll stay up til the end of hurricane season.

Stay Safe!

We'll be arriving on Friday for the weekend and it only hit DD last night that this is hurricane season! :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 I told her there was nothing to worry about! Thank Goodness she doesn't watch the news!
