We will be at DLR in September for 6 nights and we would like to spend a day at one of the beaches. So, please help me! :goodvibes I am seeking all of the great info that we DISers usually provide!

Thanks!

If you are going just to go to the beach, go to Huntington. The beach is miles long and has a lot of parking. Laguna in nice if you want to visit an Art Community. Small beach and very limited parking. Huntington and Newport beaches and also closer to DLR than Laguna.

Huntington is more kid friendly. Laguna is a much more art centered community. Although it is becoming more "young" since the MTV show.

Huntington all the way! :goodvibes The pier is really fun as is their Main St. Good restaurants and great shopping.

My personal favorite is Laguna Beach. While it is known for it's art community, the beach is wonderful and near the downtown area. There's a little playground and a place to shower off. Rocky Mountain Candy is right across the street from the beach...nothing like having your caramel apple on the beach watching the volleyball players. As you enter Laguna Beach from the 405, go to the left and park in the residential area. Plus if you don't like it, just get in your car and take a very scenic ride up the coast to Huntington Beach.

Newport Beach is about 15 miles straight down Harbor Blvd from Disneyland. 19 miles if you take the freeway. Huntington Beach is the next beach area north of Newport up Coast Hwy, 5 miles or so.

Personally, I've never liked Huntington, especially as a kid, because it was always crowded and too built up. Laguna is nice and quiet, more like Carmel, but they have a BJs Pizza, a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Company, a Candy Baron, and an ice cream place all really close to the beach. Newport is cool, because they have Ruby's on the Pier and you can take the ferry over to Balboa Island and get Balboa Bars. :goodvibes

Generally, the surf is bigger at Huntington. Keep that in mind if bigger waves are an issue for you or the kids.

As a CA native I have to second Newport. Totaly easy to get to, the surf is not as rough as Huntington and it's not as crowded. Lots of places to park and plenty of nice sandy beach.

hi there, we were at DL in september and i really wanted to go to the beach(we were there 10 nights)...after talking to the staff at the HOJO, i knew newport was where we were going, so after much convincing, i talked my dh into driving(he does NOT like to drive the freeways down there :confused3 )....Newport was awesome, the beach was beautiful, water was nice, great shopping, it was perfect...getting there was sooooo easy...it was 35-40 minutes on harbour boulevard  ...my kids are 16, 14, and 12 and they also loved it, so much in fact, that on our trip to DL next year, we are going to do at least 2 days at newport. :cool1: ..have an amazing trip...
