Hungry honeymooners-- 8 Days on DDP

Yours is the second eh okay review for Chefs de France :sad2: the short ribs are listed as coming with pasta on the allears menu polenta would be tasty though! That Y&Y CS looks very generous, I don't even get that size shrimp with my lo mein here so thats good to see! Great reviews and pics

Yak and Yeti looks great for a counter service option. Dinner at Boma sounds great too.

The next day it was my intention to get breakfast at Riverside Mill before heading to Hollywood Studios but we woke up too late so it was another lunch for us.

DH got the beef and bleu again, this time with the magic cookie bar. I got the turkey sandwich with a Rice Krispie Mickey head.
DSCN0994.jpg

The turkey sandwich was very fresh and yummy but the bread had some sort of seeds in it or something that came off all over my hands. It was a total mess. The picture has the sandwich half eaten so you can see it is quite large like most things at Disney. The Mickey treats are great if you don't want to eat your QS dessert with your meal because they're portable. I just stowed it away in my purse and had it for a late night snack later that night.

Total price: About $27

Later at DHS we had reservations for '50s Prime Time Cafe. It was quite crowded as I think they were accepting walkins. We got in pretty quickly though, just enough time to get DH a beer. The waitress was really in character, harassing DH about if he was old enough to drink a beer (it was the only time we were carded all trip!), telling us to "do our homework", etc. DH was terrified of her because she kept on yelling at the couple behind us and didn't dare do anything to upset her. I got yelled at for drinking my PBJ milkshake too much before dinner but she told DH he had been good the whole dinner!

DSCN1000.jpg

I got the Aunt Liz's Golden Fried Chicken with the PBJ milkshake while DH got the Top Sirlion Steak. The PBJ milkshake was awesome, but I didn't taste very much if any jelly. The whole fried chicken dish was very well done, much better than KFC or the like. I had no reason not to eat my veggies-- they were yummy! DH liked his steak okay, but he liked my chicken much better. I had the Daddy's Brownie sundae for dessert which was really really good but WAAAAAYYYY too much. Mark had the Grandpa's Bread Pudding, also good.
Total price: About $57

Later at the hotel we got a drink from the hotel general store: $4.25

Total price for the day: $88.25
Total savings for the day:About $8.20

That is a ton of chicken! One good thing about Disney is that they don't seem to scrimp on the servings thats no KFC dinky chicken lol
that sandwich would annoy me too was it like poppys or something? I hate any kind of seeded bread :headache: it looks like a great sized sandwich! Can't wait for the next review!! :goodvibes

On Sunday night we called transportation line and asked what time we should catch the bus to make our 8:05 ressies at Crystal Palace (park opening time 9:00). They told us to show up around 40 minutes early, but my DH let me sleep in and we showed up for the buses at 7:30. Bad move. Another MK bus didn't come until 8:10 despite two buses showing up for every other park. :confused3 My plans for eating breakfast leisurely and then being right up front to enter the park were squashed. Thankfully they were still able to seat us.

No pictures of food here but here's DH with Pooh, who was soooooo excited to see newlyweds.

I'm not a huge breakfast person but I did enjoy this as did DH, who is a huge fan of breakfast. We thought the food quality was very good, much better than a Shoney's or another similar type of breakfast buffet. The fruit was tasty and fresh. I liked the potato casserole, breakfast pizza, biscuits, and fruit. I did not like the waffles at all though. They seemed kind of underdone on the inside. Character interaction seemed to go kind of slowly. From parents complaining on both sides of this I got the impression that the characters were coming around kind of slow. Maybe people were just in a rush like us? In any event we only got face time with Pooh although Tiger did pat DH on the back as he went through the parade.

We ate so much at breakfast and slept from 12:30-3:30 so we didn't have another meal until our dinner at Kona. We didn't know Kona didn't open until 5:00 and got there a little early. They gave us a buzzer and we headed over to the Tambu Lounge. DH just had to have the lapu lapu, while I had the Tropical Macaw (I think?). The bartender was very friendly and the drinks were delicious and strong.

Although it was cool to look around the Poly, the ambiance at Kona isn't much. That being said, food wise, in a week full of excellent meals, Kona was both mine and DH's absolute favorite restaurant. We started off with the sticky wings. I had seen pictures and reviews on here of these and although I normally wouldn't have had an appetizer I decided I had to try these. Sooo deliciously good! I loved the mustard sauce they put on these. Next, I had the tuna oscar. That yellow stuff is wasabi hollandaise and was pretty much my new favorite sauce. I pictured the tempura-fried jumbo lump crab being larger but it was good.
DSCN1017.jpg

DH had the teriyaki style New York strip steak which was covered in pineapple (yum!) and a sauce similar to the sauce on the sticky wings but sweeter. We both had berry smoothies with our meal. I forgot to mention, the bread with macadamia nut butter. What can I say but :cloud9:. Seriously, it might be the best bread and butter I've ever eaten and I love bread.

They brought out this adorable dessert for us since we were on our honeymoon. It took us awhile to realize that the Lilo and Stitch design was actually made out of chocolate. I'm sure they must have stencils or something to make it but we were really impressed with the artistry. We were only able to have a few bites because our regular desserts came out a few minutes later. I got the chocolate banana creme brulee while DH had the Kilauea Torte. Again, beyond delicious. We were totally satisfied with this meal and plan to go back there on our next trip.

Okay I'm back for more dining deliciousness...

On Tuesday we decided to stay at the hotel to "rest" for the day. We slept past noon and then headed over to Riverside for another lunch there.

No pictures, but DH had the double cheeseburger with a magic bar and I had the chicken and fish basket with the chocolate cake. DH thought the cheeseburger was pretty good and perhaps a tad better than Pop's double cheeseburger. The chicken and fish basket was perhaps the worst thing I ate all week. In fact, I found the fish inedible. Everything tasted as if salt had been poured all over it. While I don't expect gourmet quality fish out of a place like Riverside, I did expect it at least to taste similar to a fish and chips meal at someplace like Applebees. This didn't even taste like fish. Surprisingly, I gave the fish to DH and he thought it was fine. Perhaps I just got caught with a bad piece or something.

We went over to the main pool and swam for a bit before grabbing a drink at the pool bar. When I heard about the pool bar I wasn't sure if it was a separate entity from the pool or if it was actually at the pool a la most Caribbean resorts. The bar is separate from the pool but they give you plastic cups so you can go sit by the pool with your drink, you just can't go into the pool with a drink. There is also a nice shaded wooden deck area you can sit at and we decided to sit there to get out of the sun. I got the non-alcoholic sour apple freeze (tastes like sour candies) while DH got a beer. DH is a microbrew fanatic so he was pleased to see they did have some local microbrew selections rather than just Bud, etc. I believe the beer he got was called "Purple Haze".

After a nap (yes, we like our sleep) we headed out to DTD. I was saving a TS credit for Narcoosee's later that week so we used a QS credit at Wolfgang Puck Express. As far as I'm concerned this is the absolute best usage of a QS credit as it is nearly a full service restaurant featuring delicious food.

DSCN1047.jpg

I got the BBQ chicken Focaccia with a nonfat yogurt with chocolate chips. I love pretty much BBQ chicken anything so I thought this sandwich was outstanding and full of flavor. The onion overwhelmed a bit but I like onion so that was okay. The nonfat vanilla yogurt was next to tasteless, not a good choice at all. I was looking for something relatively healthy but next time I'll get fruit instead.

DSCN1048.jpg

DH got the BBQ chicken pizza with the creme brulee. His pizza was even better than my sandwich (I just had to have a bite) but a similar concept. He reported that the creme brulee was even better than the one at Chefs and he thought the strawberry really enhanced it. One note I should make about WGPE is that a tip does seem to be expected (and is certainly deserved) by the servers. Being a QS restaurant we didn't realize people would be waiting on us and only had a few dollars in our pocket. We gave him everything we had on us but still felt like we were slighting him a tip so be sure to bring some cash.

I will review the rest of our night eating and drinking at DTD in my next post.

Great pics, I love 'em. :yay:
