Hungry Are The Damned! 10/15/07-10/25/07 - COMPLETED W/LOTS OF PICS!!!

Mickey bars are an acceptable alternative to caviar.

And traveling with you and your vertically challenged, furry-headed companion has got to be an improvement over vacationing with those two cretins I currently share lodgings with.

All Hail Plankton!!!

Verticall Challenged.... companion tends to spoil anyone who is within her immediate vicinity... Planky...you may never be the same... I'm not sure that's good or bad...

Hey, you're back! I too slave for the High Masters of Finance (although in a very lowly position) and your report always puts a smile in my day. Thanks!!

My roommate in college worked for a vet and brought a duck home one weekend to 'rehabilitate' on our patio.

She named it Barry.

Barry was loud, stinky and extremely ill-tempered.

I quietly did some major celebrating in my head when the landlord evicted Barry. I guess the neighbors didn't find him any more charming than I did.

And by the way...I think I read recently that Balvenie Scotch was looking for an 'ambassador.' I think you need to sharpen-up your resume... :goodvibes

That's right; Dante missed a circle, so I've taken the liberty of creating one just for St. Louis traffic.

See? Now this I totally get!! And what is it with the traffic lately? Have they just let all the crazies out of the barn or did the cold freeze everyone's brains? (I'd blame it on the snow, but that melted a while ago. Snow = Crazy Dust... lesson learned from working in an elementary school.)

Have another drink, if you're taking on STL traffic, you need it!

You're back! I would have enjoyed your review of Casey's so much more if I hadn't just watched You Are What You Eat on BBCAmerica the other night (look, it was that or another bowl game). That bucket of snouts and ears just did me in. I guess I'll be eating chili buns made with the cheap chili that's really just flavored beans, you know what I mean? Now that I've grossed everybody out, let's have a cheery bakery review!:teeth:

Oh Brenda thank you so much for all your wonderfully delicious posts:banana: popcorn:: . I am so excited about our family trip in May. We have always been skeptical about the dining plan and have finally caved in after 6 years and are way excited with our decision. Thanks to you. Keep those reports coming.:happytv: :wizard:

:beach: party: :tinker:

Damn straight, girl. How dare you delay writing the report! <crickets> Uh...yeah, hypocritical much, Lori? :rolleyes1

Thank goodness we all have a sense of humor, right?

Hello, I'm Lori. I work in an Accounting Dept. Where I cannot take off the beginning or ending week of any month because my boss or myself have to be in to keep stuff from imploding if the other person takes time off or is ill. (Which is why I cannot go on that cruise!)

That totally sucks - I'm sorry. And I'm really sorry you can't work out a way to cruise in 2009 with us ... it would have been a hoot sharing the Magic with you! We're going to try for a week at F&W before that cruise so maybe we can run into you there if you head down to WDW for a much needed nosh around the world.

I put together a drink that has the ingredients of a drink I cannot type here, but I put a little butterscotch schnapps and Bailey's together on ice. Yum. :)

Sounds tasty ... I may have to try that one later this weekend.

Sigh, that last bastion of counter service....hot melty liquidy cheeeez. I used to love getting that stuff at Cosmic Ray's (and Pecos Bill's, but I like Cosmic Ray's better.) I wonder when Casey's will decide that cheesy lava is too much for guests to handle, too? Anyway, I can't remember the last time I had a hot dog there. I do remember the last hot dog I had at WDW though. (Hint: It's a great appetizer for a big honkin' sundae! )

I hope they never get rid of that vat of melted cheese-goo at Casey's. If I could get away with it I'd just position myself right underneath the spout with my mouth wide open and ... well, I'd better stop right there before I get carried away. :lmao:

I've never been much of a fan of the rabid birds that attack ever since a flying rat (aka seagull) ripped a churro out of my hands in Frontierland. :scared1:

Holy crap!

The answer is so obvious. The ducks were sent by the Foie Gras Mafia. For years we've found them tasty, and they were sending you a not-so-subtle message to find them a bit less tasty.

Now that's funny! When I first read that I snorted coffee up my nose ... painful, but worth every chuckle.

Yeah, but the baby ducks that seem to hang out near the pools are still fuzzy and cute. Then they grow up to be people nibblers!

True ... the baby ducks are sweet and fuzzy. And I really do think that the most aggressive ducks are hanging out at Casey's ... it's like a gang or something. Disney should start issuing duckland gang activity advisories to its guests.

Snap. I didn't watch the Iron Chef. But I would have rolled my eyes at the pretentious "unctuous" comment!

It was a really recent episode and the iron chef was Michael Symon - his challenger was a thin, bald man who specialized in Asian cuisine. It was one of his dishes that earned the "unctuous" comment.

The cruise or the cash to bail him out???

If I make it...He has an open invite and I'll even buy another memory card just for him!!! (I do have a feeling that more people on our meet board would recognize him more than me...:upsidedow ) I will be able to issue a formal invite on or around Feb 10th... If I don't make it on the cruise... then Planky can help me drown my sorrows on the next trip where we will be downing the little bottles of booze from the airplane and eating very unhealthy food... I know... Just his kind!!!

Thanks for the kind offer to take Plankton on the repo - I'm sure he'd love it (almost as much as Jay and I would). And if he behaves himself we'll have to work out a way for him to tag along, as long as it's not too much trouble.

Brenda!!

I now have my very own Sheldon J Plankton beanie. I found him in Germany (no, I'm not kidding). The kids wanted Mr Krabs and Gary and I told them that if there was no Plankton, it wasn't going to happen. Lo and behold...we now have them all, plus Spongebob and Patrick.

Briarmom! Good to see you!

That's awesome ... everyone is getting Plankton! His nefarious scheme is working!! I can't believe you've got them all ... including Gary! I would include a laughing icon but I think we've hit the limit on this post - just picture me rolling helplessly on the floor...

:woohoo: Why Brenda, the rumours said you'd relocated to England (where they still have no Internet) with some fat old bloke who looks like a walruss but owes an ice-cream parlour which serves 79 different flavours of which 47 have a lacing of Alcohol in them,i have it on good authorite Jason tried to win you back with a 2009 cruise proposal and the promise of a new prosthetic leg if only you'd return to O'fallon, come on lady spill the beans your audience awaits the truth of your disappearance....

You promised not to tell ... and if all the ice cream isn't alcoholic and doesn't come with hot fudge then I'm not sure if it's the right place for me.

Yay an update at last! I got attacked by those pesky ducks too but by the bus stop at MK, those beaks really hurt don't they

Hi Jo! I was surprised at how painful that nip on the leg was. At least I make sure the duck is properly cooked (and dead) before chowing on it!

Brenda's back!!!! Can you believe we'd never eaten at Casey's until this past trip? It is a great hot dog. We missed out on the duckies, DH wanted to sit inside and watch the baseball cartoons.:rotfl:

Hi Kathy! Did you like Casey's? We've eaten on the bleachers at Casey's before for the exact same reason ... we love those cartoons!!

Hmmmmm, jerky ducks nibbling on legs? Could that be the answer to "One Legged Brenda"! :confused3

Sure, I'll join you for the B.O.B cruise...."Brenda on the Boat".

Your update was well worth the wait B. Anytime I can start my day with a Brenda update, turns that day into completely do-able. Now if I could just stay home from work, that would be a perfect day!

Hiya Nancy! Thanks for coming over to read and thanks for the kind comments - you're always too nice to me but I love ya for it! And I can't wait to get on the Magic next year ... woo hoo!

Yeah Brenda's back. I don't think I like ducks either now.

Hi Laura! I don't like the ducks at Casey's anymore, that's for sure!

Sorry to interrupt the jerky nibbling hungry duck!

But I have to send out a BIG Thanks to all for the birthday wishes!:grouphug: :goodvibes

Unfortunately, the realization of aging another year combined with the discovery of Brenda's Milk Punch, followed by New Year's Eve with more Milk Punch & Champagne caused me to be MIA for several days. Not only does Milk Punch cause facial numbness but when combined with Champagne, it also causes an overall full body and brain numbness. Until the next morning that is! :upsidedow

Brenda had I remembered that Milk Punch was an old time N'awlins drink, I would have known to pace myself! But now, I have a clear understanding of what 10 courses at Commander's with lots of Milk Punch will do to you!

Now back to your regularly scheduled program....

Hi Sheryl! I take your post to mean you enjoyed the milk punch ... I hope you had a good birthday!

So glad you're back, Brenda!! There's nothing like a nice alcoholic beverage after a long day of work -- really, some days it's the only thing that keeps me sane.

I agree about those overly aggressive Disney ducks. My daughter gets all freaked out by them, making it very difficult for her to enjoy her McNuggets at the McDonald's stand near the Canadian pavilion. What? Doesn't everyone go to Disney World to enjoy McDonald's chicken nuggets?

I'll be waiting patiently for more updates!

Hi Lori! Thanks for coming back to read more ... even if it was just about ducks and a random hot dog. I never understood why people were kind of skittish around the ducks at Casey's until that one tried to gnaw on my shin. ;)

I heard she was off in the Middle East doing contract work......OH, wait a minute, that's someone else I know.....

Great installment as always. All that driving in the snow is a good reason to call in sick, sistah.:thumbsup2 Then you would have time for more updates.

Hiya, Sistah P!! Thanks for reading - hope it helped you forget about your dental woes ... at least for a bit. As for driving in the snow ... I usually bring my laptop home at night so I really don't have an excuse not to work even if I don't go in.

Over-developed sense of responsibility, that's my problem.

Carnivorous ducks! :lmao: Nice to see you back, missus.

Ditto, my friend!

Got the ok from the cute short fuzzy haired woman I call "Mom"... she said that if we do make it ont he cruise... Planky is more than welcome to stowaway with us!!! (Of course I told her to bring lots of singles for room service... Planky likes Mickey Bars, right???)

Now it sounds like you're going to spoil him and if you do that he may never leave you and then you'll really be in for a treat.

Wooh-Hooh!!! Glad your back!!!

Sorry to hear about the 10th circle.

Am I right in thinking if you loose the E, you have the good stuff? I could go check my Southern Comfort, but I'm too lazy. And I'm not thinking my Southern is the good stuff either.

Anyway, I'm glad you gave us a little updatey. Looking forward to hearing about the birthday fun when you escape from the circle long enough.

Traffic around here is crappy at best, and the MO department of transportation has closed down a major East / West thoroughfare for the next two years. Gawd help us all...

The absence of the E just means that you have a beverage that was distilled in Scotland. Whisky = Scotland and Whiskey = everywhere else. I checked the labels and the information from the scotch pairing we did at Epcot in October, which info I will share with you all in loving detail some time this year.

I do find, however, that the single malt whisky is a pretty darn fine beverage and those do tend to be a bit pricey depending on the age. At the end of the day, the "good stuff" is the stuff you like to drink.

Thanks for reading - glad to know you're still following along!

Hey, you're back! I too slave for the High Masters of Finance (although in a very lowly position) and your report always puts a smile in my day. Thanks!!

Awww, thank you - that's a lovely thing to say. And my position is pretty lowly, too ... I think the Masters of Finance are still doing a fine job of keeping that glass ceiling in place.

Hmmmm... a Scotch ambassador? I'm thirsty and I'm interested ... I must look into this further.

Oh, and that story about Barry ... just killed me. For some reason it made me think of the Harry Potter spoofs that Mike Gerber has written: Barry Trotter and the Unauthorized Parody was the first one. If you like HP (no relation, surely?) you would probably enjoy these books. I laugh like a loon every time I read them ... it gives Jay another reason to worry about my mental health.

 An update!

Next please!

Auntie Karen! Thanks for coming by and I will have another update this weekend ... just don't know exactly when.

Hi there and thanks for reading! I take it from your post that you live in the STL metro area? If my assumption is correct you have my deepest sympathies.

I wish I could figure out why everyone (gross generalization ... I'm sure you and I are driving just fine) seems to be driving as if they'd never seen an automobile or a highway or a raindrop or a snowflake before. It's so bad that I've seriously considered adding a mini-bar to my car - it's not drinking and driving if the car isn't going anywhere!

Nice to see you again but now I realize that if I am what I eat then I'm in big big trouble ... I must be 25% cheeseburger, 15% Imos pizza, 10% artisan cheese, 10% coffee, 10% water, and 30% booze. And then I need to add another 25% for dessert (that must be why my grandmother told me my rear-end was 40-miles wide .... only she didn't use the word rear-end and I was about 6 years old). :rotfl2:

Oh Brenda thank you so much for all your wonderfully delicious posts. I am so excited about our family trip in May. We have always been skeptical about the dining plan and have finally caved in after 6 years and are way excited with our decision. Thanks to you. Keep those reports coming.:happytv:

Hi there and thanks for reading - you've made me all blushie and happy with your lovely comments. I hope you have a great trip in May - that's a great time of year to be at WDW. If you have any questions about any of the places we've eaten please feel free to ask - if I can't help you I'm sure one of these fabu DISers who pop in and out will be able to.

Thanks again to every one of you for sticking with us - it's good to be writing again and it's good to be sharing the food love!!

Sorry to be a little off topic, but all this talk about a cruise - - well it got me thinking and searching and reading different posts and I thought - - oops - Brenda - all knowing, help me out here - - - -

This would be my first cruise - - what would you recommend for a cabin - inside - outside - balcony - porthole???

Help - what deck - - - up - down - - -

Any ideas or thoughts - anyone!!??:confused3

Wednesday, October 17th - The Boardwalk Bakery ... or Should that be the Cakewalk Bakery?

I always have the best of intentions ... really I do. I start planning a WDW trip and I want to be budget-conscious...note to self: stop with the self-delusion...but then I see posts from other DISers about fabulous birthday and anniversary and no-reason-in-particular cakes and gifties and I find myself wanting to join in the over-priced fun.

All of this leads to serious debate at our house about cake: do we order one? will we eat it all? is it really worth it? will Goofy burst from a 6-foot tall, buttercream frosted birthday cake wearing nothing but a sash that reads vote for Pedro?

**Answer key: Not exactly; Past instances of vacation-cake lead me to think "no"; if you have to ask ...; And yes, even Goofy can be bought.**

Ultimately, I decided against ordering a cake for my birthday (sort of ... you'll have to keep reading to find out what I did) because we were planning on eating so much other stuff during the trip that a full-size cake would have been wasted on the two of us. BUT ... how can anyone be expected to mark a birthday at WDW without some kind of sweet, calorie-laden treat? AND ... don't I deserve a prize for surviving that brutal duck attack?

To keep me happy, the man in my life agreed to walk over to the Boardwalk Bakery from the Beach Club with me to drool over refrigerated cases loaded with brightly colored, glistening, cream topped delectables.

We ended up buying a miniature Mickey cake, two miniature cheesecakes, and two miniature brownie-cheesecakes. The cheesecakes, by the way, were for some DISfriends that we were meeting later in the afternoon. Cass and Rob were celebrating their wedding anniversary on the 17th, and Karen was kidnapping Plankton to take him on a cruise. And cheesecake happens to be a favorite dessert of theirs ... so we picked some up just to be nice. :goodvibes

Mickey-head cake: it's almost too cute to eat...almost
159.jpg

This was a surprisingly tasty cake - the outer shell was chocolate painted to look like Mickey. The actual cake was very light, almost like angel food, and it was moist and sweet.

Mickey's head sliced open by Plankton...look, sprinkles!
162.jpg

The sprinkles were a surprise and one that I could have done without. I call them sprinkles, but they were really more like candy confetti. They added nothing in terms of taste and I thought they ruined the texture of the cake. Of course the cake was probably made with real children in mind as opposed to adult children like Jason and me, so I suppose the colorful and pointless candy confetti addition can be excused.

And yes, that is an actual glass of milk on the table. How do you think Plankton was strong enough to slice the cake? That's right - lots of calcium!

Plain, simple cheesecake - fabulous!
160.jpg

Cheesecake brownie - sinful and decadent
161.jpg

Who is the evil genius that first decided to mix gooey, chocolate cake-like brownies with rich, creamy cheesecake? I'd like to shake his hand and grovel at his feet.

Final analysis: those eclairs we picked up earlier in the week from the Bakery might not have been very good, but we thought all three of these choices were excellent and would not hesitate to purchase similar items from the Boardwalk Bakery in the future, although I might ask about a confetti-free cake next time. ;)

It's a short update this time, but trust me when I tell you that the next post with Bistro Paris is going to be a long one. Thanks for reading and if I do update again this weekend it will likely be on Sunday ... be well everyone and have a good weekend! :grouphug:

Hello there - it's nice to see you again! :goodvibes

Don't apologize for being off topic ... sheesh, my threads go all over the place - that's half the fun!

I'm not all knowing, but I'm certainly all-opinion. ;)

First cruise ... depending on whether or not you have motion sickness issues and whether or not you have issues with small, confined spaces I would suggest the following:

A cabin located mid-ship is best - don't book a cabin too far forward or aft (front and rear) because you typically feel more movement in those areas. The same can be said of a cabin that's too high or low on the ship, although Jay and I have had cabins on Deck 6 and Deck 8 of the Magic and didn't really notice a difference. Most of the newer ships have stabilizers that help keep them pretty evenly balanced unless they enter really rough seas.

If you don't like confined spaces you might want to consider a room with a porthole window at least. We love having a balcony because it makes the room seem larger and because we like the fresh air. An interior room won't usually have a window, which would drive me crazy because I need natural light.

Depending on what your budget allows for I'd say mid-ship room with a window, at least. Why cruise in a closet if you don't have to? :confused3

Brenda...

If Planky misbehaves... I can always Fed Ex him from some foreign port... although I hear he wants to hit Tijuana and drink Tequilla!!!

I was just out back killing a chicken and thought I'd check the boards before calling it a night.:jester:

Another good one. Those goodies look so...well....good! :goodvibes

Have a great weekend, B.:thumbsup2

Well...yeah... I'd go for the Walt Disney Suite... or you could pay off your mortgage... I'm going with a Verandah because My mom said she will blackmail me if I don't get it for her... (yes....she has her verandah... so for now...my secrets are safe...)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, yes! - that cheesecake sure was scrummy:cloud9: thanks again. It was lovely meeting up with you - glad you're cruising this time. Just dont take any photos of me stuffing my face full with cheesecake for your next trippie:rotfl2:

Just a side issue - Planky looks a little too happy while he's cutting Mickeys head in half:eek: :lmao:

Hey Brenda. Glad your back. Hot dogs, booze and cheesecake....I'm not sure it gets any better than that. Looking forward to more. :thumbsup2

I saw the same show and no dogs for me for awhile either. :scared1:

I wonder which Plankton that was on the picture. Certainly not that one who cruised with us.:confused3

Very yummy update B. Think I'll have a cheescake for breakfast now. (Did I say "a" cheesecake?...I meant a "slice" of cheesecake..yah, yah...that's it..a "slice" of cake)

Brenda...

If Planky misbehaves... I can always Fed Ex him from some foreign port... although I hear he wants to hit Tijuana and drink Tequilla!!!

You have permission to keep the little bugger in line any way you see fit (as long as he doesn't end up drowned ... ;) ). As for the tequilla ... well, consider who he lives with! :lmao:

I was just out back killing a chicken and thought I'd check the boards before calling it a night.:jester:

Another good one. Those goodies look so...well....good! :goodvibes

Have a great weekend, B.:thumbsup2

Did you save the chicken feathers and was the light of the moon shining directly down upon you? ;)

They were quite yummy - a nice alternative to a whole cake that definitely would have gone to waste once Jay got sick.

You have a good weekend, too! :goodvibes

I don't usually take pictures of other people eating food, so you don't need to worry Karen unless you stuff an entire cheesecake in your mouth in one go. ;)

Plankton is not a very nice ... organism. He thrives on chaos and destruction - it's really where his talent lies. :rotfl:

Hey Brenda. Glad your back. Hot dogs, booze and cheesecake....I'm not sure it gets any better than that. Looking forward to more. :thumbsup2

Hi there - glad to see you back as well! :goodvibes

I saw the same show and no dogs for me for awhile either. :scared1:

Does that mean I shouldn't go to McDonald's before my oil change this morning and order that Egg McMuffin I've been craving?

I wonder which Plankton that was on the picture. Certainly not that one who cruised with us.:confused3

Very yummy update B. Think I'll have a cheescake for breakfast now. (Did I say "a" cheesecake?...I meant a "slice" of cheesecake..yah, yah...that's it..a "slice" of cake)

Plankton has a plan, my friend; he always has a plan. If he was acting "nice" on the cruise there was a reason. ;)

Thanks for stopping by to read Nancy!

Those cakes look absolutely delicious and I have never heard or seen cheesecake brownie before I think a trip to that bakery is in order in August :thumbsup2

I just love it over here. Both erudite and earthy, my favorite combination.

If there are circles of hell does that mean that there are circles of heaven? If so, what do I have to do to reach concierge level? Just wondering.

I make those brownies for my oldest grandson. Only difference is that I swirl the cheesecake part in for a mixed brownie. Easy, trust me.

Ducks are not so bad. On a plate, covered with la orange sauce they are quite tasty. I do not blame the ducks at DW near as much as I do the folks who insist on feeding them. I have a picture of people doing such with the 'Please do not feed the birds" sign right by their table.

I am off to see if I can find my sash cause I am feeling a bit chilly this morning. Send money. True, Goofy can be bought. :rotfl:

I would respond in a better manner but I am currently fighting a beautiful case of pneumonia and lack of breathing has affected what few brain cells I have remaining.

SG/Linda
