Hi everyone. This might seem like a dumb question but I need to ask it. We are headed to WDW in June and live in Nevada which has 0% humidity. I have a 3yo that I am worried about. He has never been anywhere that is humid. Does anyone have any tips to help him adjust to the humidity in FL? Thanks!

I'm not sure there's anything you can do except keep him well hydrated, plenty of water. The worst problem with humidity is the havok it wreaks on your hair!

I usually take my brother and his family every Sept (Like right after labor day) and still very warm and humid.Well when we took her the first time at like 2 he thought they would not be able to do very much because heat and humidity but actually she handled it very well much to our surprise. Make sure to hydrate and do leave the park when it get super warm and go swim in the pool. Just some helpful advice that got us through

I agree with above that you need to take a break. We've been twice in June, and even with us living in Illinois, the humidity in Florida is sometimes unbearable. I would suggest going first thing in the morning and then leaving right after lunch to enjoy the afternoon in the pools. You can also take breaks in the shops and restaurants.

Another thing that I thought about are those bandanas that keep you cool. There are some sort of bead inside them that you drench in water and then wear around your neck. If you do a search of threads on here, you should be able to find them.

In June, keep in mind that there are always thunderstorms in the afternoon in Florida, so the humidity is always worse around that time.

Just take it easy and don't go commando style (our first mistake). Enjoy yourself!!

Stay home when it's that hot is my best recommendation. It's best to stay in the AC as it can feel like death but if you can't :) then go in the morning and in the evenings. Remember when it's humid your sweat doesn't evaporate so a little hand held fan is good and one of those foam ones that can clip on a stroller might help your child. Hats and sunscreen are a must but don't use sunscreen with oil as that will just make you more hot. Gosh I hate the sweltering humid heat of the south...yeah I live in the south but not as far south as Fla, which is why we are going in January!!!!

Humidity makes it feel a lot hotter.... however, you're less likely to dehydrate in a humid environment because you notice how hot it is (a lot of times, it's unbearable).

I suggest lightweight clothing (underarmour underneath regular tee shirt helps absorb sweat and keep you cool) and lots of water.

Stroller with the sunshade on it does wonders just remember to use sunscreen on parts of body lower legs an feet that will be sticking out past the sun shade on stroller.

Pack something to cover stroller with very frequent afternoon down pours at disney in summer nothing like bein on a ride an coming back to a soaked stroller. I think I'd use a cheap shower curtain from the dollar store for that.

I've been to Vegas in August when it's 115 and it doesn't compare to Orlando at 90 with humidity... Treat it as if your in the sun in Vegas on a hot day, try to stay in as much as possible, do more after the sun goes down - you will have a much happier 3 year old that way. Sleep late, hit the pool and after the sun goes down hit the parks, watch for extra magic hours and take advantage.

I'll take Vegas heat anyday!

With a small child, I think it's really important to keep track of how much they're drinking. It's easy for even adults to get dehydrated before they realize it, and with a small child, it would be even harder. Even if you have to pretty much force the child to drink, it's worth it!

You can't really "adjust" to the humidity in a span of one week, or even two weeks. All that you can hope to do is to deal with it in a healthy way.

Everyone has given you great advice. A mid-day break would be my biggest piece of advice. Arrive at the parks early -- leave at lunchtime or so, swim, have a nap ---- return in the evening.

Also, in Florida, the sun itself is brutal. Please, please, put a brimmed hat on your little one, and use plenty of sunscreen. Actually, everyone in your party should wear a hat and sunscreen -- re-applied several times during the day.

One of those water-mister fans might be good to keep in the stroller. Oh, yeah, even if (s)he doesn't still use a stroller, you will probably want one in the parks.

I have lived in Georgia all my life. The humidity is very high in GA --- but it's higher in FLA. You really have to be aware and be careful.

Above all, have fun!

Ive lived in Florida since I was 12 years of age and at 41 I still am not "adjusted" to the Summer heat. Summers in Florida are hot humid, and it tends to rain every day for a while which when it stops it is EVEN MORE HUMID. The best way to put it is that quite literally the Summer air here takes some of your breathe away!

I tend to commando when I visit in the cooler months, but in September I definitly do the "Siesta Touring Plan". That is getting up early and getting to the rope drop and every early EMH. Tour till you can't stand the heat, then Siesta. Get back onthe bus right at sunset and continue!

Also some times QVC sells the bandadas with the beads in.So you might ant to check that out and also walmart might sell them.Check in Walmart where they sell ice chests

Ditto! Vegas at 113 is better than the dirty south humidity! Im from FL and dont think IVe ever gotten used to the humidity. Nothing like walking outside and having your breath taken away ;)
My parents took me to Disney in the middle of summer as a kid and I have been back since  ! Im headed this April with my kids, no way would I torture them during the summer.

Good Luck and the only advice is water, water and more water! Stay hydrated!

We too are Desert Rats, we live in Arizona and I am a native so the 122 days are bearable since we are used to how to handle them. In Fl in June the humitity is awful, best advice, stay well hydrated, keep your little one cool in the pool and enjoy the parks later in the day and take advantage of the magic hours. We did this our last trip in June 06, we are going again in june this year:lmao: I think I must be crazy..just pace yourself and make sure your little one gets lots of water
