Hi all,

I have a question...how is the Hulk in comparison to RNR? I love RNR but am scared to try the HULK this September....is it as smooth as RNR? Can the two be compared? Thanks!!! :)

No.

The ticket guy at MGM tried to, when he saw my Universal shirt, but it's not even close. Granted, I think RnRC has what seems like a faster launch, but aside from that, they're completly different. RnRC is Space Mountain with one inversion. Hulk is by far a much bigger and badder coaster.

Hulk is made by B&M, the Ferrari of coasters. RNR is made by Vekoma, the Kia of coasters.

The launches are pretty much the same but Hulk goes uphill and makes is easier to relax and lets you enjoy this part of the ride more. Hulk has a cobra roll that is very forceful and when it is running at its prime is extremely smooth. RNR has a sea serpent and at the inversion to half corkscrew your head gets clunked pretty good.

Hulk is a much smoother and longer coaster. The basic Hulk Coaster costs about twice as much as the basic RNR coaster (minus theming, station, Aerosmith, etc.) Hulk is superior coaster and if you enjoy RNR, Hulk will blow you away.

RNR stats
Length (feet): 3403'
Height (feet): 80'
Inversions: 3
Speed (mph): 57
Duration (m:ss): 1:22
G-Force (g): 5
200 ft Catapult (0-57 mph in 2.8 seconds). Elements: Cobra roll following the launch and a corkscrew.

Hulk Stats
Length (feet): 3700'
Height (feet): 110'
Drop (feet): 105'
Inversions: 7
Speed (mph): 67
Duration (m:ss): 2:15
G-Force (g): 4
Catapult launch up a 150 foot tunnel achieving 40mph in 2 seconds. Zero-G roll 110 feet above ground. Elements: Cobra roll, weightless roll, 360-degree carousel, two loops, inclined loop, high speed carousel and two flat spins

The hulk wins hands down but it certainly is not a smooth coaster. I still love it though.

Used to be. Time for the rails to be polished, needs new paint, etc.

Hi Mickey1,

I love R-N-R it is such a unique dark ride and the only coaster I have riden where the Rolling Stones blares through the speakers as you blaze along the track. It's very cool and besides I help test this ride so it is certainly dear to my heart. I love coasters in general and being nervous about getting on them is part of the fun, though I hear your concern...I wasn't sure I wanted to try Hulk either when I rode it this week. However, I knew I would be upset with myself if I didn't at least try it and you will be too. I will ride it again. <BG
Give it a try....it's a very smooth track and the take off reminded me of R-N-R's except that it was a steep straight up boost. Plus, if you stay at a Universal Resort you can do what I did and have front of the line access, we walked right on (less time to back out or wonder why your doing this) the actual wait time for this ride on Thursady was 90 minutes that's alot of time to think about the ride while your waiting to get on it! Front of the line access is the way to go for all rides! <BG>

Hope this helps...Mmketeer

Just go in September or October like we do & you just walk on anyway:)

I agree damo, it used to be very smooth but over theyears I've noticed it getting rougher.

I thought it was Aerosmith that blares through the speakers:confused:

RnR Coaster isn't terribly smooth unless you sit towards the front. I find Hulk pretty smooth.

In Sep of 2001, I spent most of a day at IOA, finishing up with multiple rides on the Hulk. I drove down I-4 and stopped into Disney-MGM Studios for a few trips through RnR. With that close a comparison, it's extremely clear that The Hulk really makes RnR seem like a "weenie" coaster.

On it's own, RnR, is a pretty nice ride. But, when stacked up against The Hulk, it just doesn't compete.

Exactly. When I decided to try MGM a couple of months ago for the first time in a number of years, one of my main objectives was to try Rock-n-Rollercoaster.

At the ticket window the guy just had to make fun of my Universal shirt, which was fine. But then he started to bad mouth Universal, and compare rides. He said Hulk was a kiddie ride because RnR had a faster launch.

Once I got to RnR, it was no longer about just trying and enjoying the ride, but measuring it up to Hulk. Granted, it had a very cool queue and theme, very well done, and a very good launch, but as a coaster it just did not compare to Hulk at all.

I was so disapointed, by the comparison, that I couln't imagine waiting in line again, even in the express lane, just to ride it. Even though at the time I recognized it was a pretty cool ride by it's own merit, that CM's comparison ruined the ride for me, for that day at least.

Went to WDW with my daughter last month and my this year my Grandson met the height requirement. Went on RRC and that was the first ride that made his eyes buldge, and he goes on every coaster as soon as he meets the mark. So this year he will make the mark for Hulk, just missed it last year. I will be watching to see what he has to say, after his ride in August.

When I rode Hulk in March, it felt exquisitely smooth. Last weekend, it felt a lot rougher than usual. Either I'm getting old or it needs a bit of work done to it. Dueling Dragons, however, felt dreamy. Like "time to take a nap" smooth.
