Hula's Magic Pin Switch Trick 1/14 MERGED

And it's over. No pin for me today. That'll teach me for looking at boards while waiting for a late event. :(

Room just closed. Was a a few minutes late getting into line after it finally opened. Looks like about 150 people went through.

obviously, there are not that many chances, really, because if you do not click to enter the room at the exact second she opens it, you will not get it. I started the queue at 100 (exactly) and it kicked me out (room closed) at 15

That means, in 2 hours, 90 people.

no 150 people did not get through, I got in line at 106 and was 23 when she closed the room, so that means about 83.

I was at 103 when it was closed, i started at 229 so that's roughly 126 that got pins

oh well hope tonight's host room is a little better :)

you're not taking into account people that left or got dc. my brother was seventy something in line at the beginning and he was one of the last few in the room before closing.

You are forgetting about DC's and such. I was at 100 and ended at 15 (maybe 14) - so, my math says 85, plus you can add the 10 actually in the room. Which is 95, and subtract a 5% disconnect rate. and you have about 90 people.

90, out of a queue of 1000. That is 9% of people who actually got in line. VMK had 6000 people on it while the room was open. So this host game serviced 1.5% of the people playing the game at the time.

Good luck to you all in getting into the host game tonight! I'm sure we will all be back on the boards again tonight anxiously awaiting to get into host room! :scared:

I started at 62 and she closed about a minute or two after I left, so I would say about 70 to 80 got in.

I wish they would just make this pin trade event available to more people. They could set up that pay gate and let you pick a teleporter in the room and each one give out a different pin. The line would move much faster and more people could get in and out.

That is an excellent idea. Maybe someone from VMK will read this and try it. :goodvibes

BTW- I got a Zebra pin :sad2:

Why is she taking a break so early and wasting time doing treasure detector magic with so many people wanting to get in?

Looks like another wasted host room event!

Seriously complaining about this? They do have to move their avatar every so often. I have seen treasure detector magic was given out today. Maybe she was showing someone how to use it if they did not know. Possible?

I really think to call this a "wasted host event" is very wrong and so far from the truth. Many people walked away today with a very nice "upgraded" pin. That's anything BUT a wasted event. You yourself managed to turn an Esmeralda into a Grand Floridian. Very nice!

Hula is taking an average of 2 minutes for each person. This event ends in 14 minutes, which means, in the entire event, she will have "hosted" less than 75 people

idk the numbers, but when I was in the room 2 people did not respond right away when it was their turn. Hula has to wait for them, ask if they were there and prompt them to accept her trade request. This slows the line significantly. It brings the event to a stop while Hula waits on players. Perhaps we need to realize that players have a role in keeping this event moving as well.

...With Hula being late and taking time to play with magic, she will be lucky to get 60 through ...
Hula closed the room 20 minutes late, making the event last the exact time that it was promoted. Again, I have issue with the term "playing" with magic. Isn't it possible she was teaching a new player how to use this nice bonus gift that some were lucky enough to receive.

...BTW- I got a Zebra pin :sad2:
Why the sad face? A zebra pin is a very nice upgrade from a 500 credit buyable pin. Congratulations on your nice trade! You won't find that exchange in any trade room or here on the DIS trade boards, that's for sure.

Sigh. I guess I just dont understand all the complaints. First, we're not happy at the lack of host events, then when we get them, what do the hosts see here? Nothing but complaints. Yes, we know the hosts read these boards. If anyone here thinks Hula has not read this thread, I believe they are mistaken (of course, i could be wrong). If you were Hula and read all of these comments, would you ever want to host this event again? Maybe something to give some thought to.

Thanks Hula for a nice event. All that you did to get pins to as many as possible is greatly appreciated.

They do the good events while I'm in school? This isn't fair.

Dreams makes a good point..

And be happy some people had to go to school and couldn't do the event at all.

Lets try this one:

If your local supermarket offered a 2 hour even where they give everyone a free toaster. And 1000 people lined up to get it, and then, it took the entire two hours to give out only 75 toasters, would you thank that person for a job well done?

I can answer that one for you. No you would not. You would write a letter of complaint to the company for a disorganized and time-wasting event. Noone is going to care that the person giving away the toasters had car trouble and was 20 minutes late.

As an event coordinator, I will happily answer your question. Yes, I would thank the person in charge for a job well done if I believed that every attempt was made to get as many of the 1,000 ppl in line their free toaster, especially if I witnessed the ppl in line not responding at the counter, not handing over their "free toaster coupon" and other customer delays that the staff handled as politely as possible.

I certainly would not walk away complaining about the color, style, make, or model of the free toaster that I was lucky enough to walk away with.

If i DID have a complaint, I would address it directly with store, not rent a billboard and post it.

Perfect analogy. Thank you for providing it. :)

I see no difference in criticizing a host event, criticizing someones trade ethics, or criticizing someone for trying to trade dreams items back at dreams month. Criticism is criticism, so why is it when its you it is ok, but when it is someone else the world has come to an end?

Pin trade events are always going to be to a limited number of people, we know that. Even if they did 1 person a minute, that's 180 for a 3 hour event, 120 for a 2 hour event.

True, some hosts are late, but they pretty much stay to finish the quoted time period.

If i was going to go into a pin trade, and it was a 2 hour event, if i didn't get right in, or was over 120 for a 2 hour or 180 for a 3 hour, i'd just leave the queue and go have fun doing something else.

Congrats to all who made it, all who didn't make it, better luck next time.

I do like that idea of the pay turn style going to a teleport room with the correct pin.

I prefer the quests more myself, and if i try for a pin trade and make it, cool. If not, oh well. It's all vitual anyways. :)

Gosh! Can people look at the positives with this event? It was the first time with this event, since when do firsts ever happen perfectly? You do your best and perfect it as it goes on. The real truth is you know an event like this is not an easy one. If it is going to frustrate you, dont bother trying to get in.

This is not an easy event for the Staff to do. Staff works extremely hard to make everyone happy, please try to consider that fact before you complain.

Positives:
  • Just think, now we have two hosts who will do pin trading in the future.
  • Daytime trading event to accomodate others who cant attend the other trade events
  • the surprise of not knowing what your pin is - come on we all know you love surprises

I was at work, so I missed the event, life goes on. I am not complaining.
Try to be positive, that is what makes the DIS VMK Community Special.:thumbsup2

I agree with gas!

Again you people miss the point of criticism. With criticism comes change and improvement.
