Huge Strollers

I'm sorry but I don't think you should be giving any advice about 7, 8 year olds in strollers...if a parent chooses to push their child around at any age...it's their choice.

I would be more concerned with a whining teenager.:confused3

LOL Vanessa! Exactly... :rotfl2:

This entire thread amazes me. What kind of stroller anyone brings in to the park or what age the children are is really nobody else's business but your own. Yes, I've been hit by strollers before. I've also been hit by ECVs, and my 2 year old son was knocked down twice by members of South American tour groups at WDW. Does that mean we shouldn't let South Americans in to the parks? Or people in ECVs? Of course not! :sad2:

There are rude, inconsiderate people everywhere. You can't usually do anything about them...just deal with it. I don't understand how you can judge people for bringing a double stroller that you think is too big. The Disney strollers are big and not comfortable for any child. I'd rather parents use a double stroller than have small, crying children being dragged through the park by tired parents. Nobody wants to carry their heavy toddler all the way back to their car or hotel and nobody wants to hear crying, screaming children because they have to walk because their parents wouldn't bring a stroller for them!

For the people who think that children over the age of 5 shouldn't be in a stroller, not every child is the same. When we go to WDW we usually stay 10 nights. My 7 year old doesn't have a stroller and walks everywhere. During our last trip we used a pedometer and we walked 45 miles over 9 days. My son was amazing, but he was exhausted by the end of the trip. On our last day at Epcot we rented him a stroller to use when he got tired. I guess some of you will just say we should have cut our trip short because our son was tired...absolutely ridiculous! What we do shouldn't concern anyone but us.

We're extremely considerate with our strollers. The only people we have ever run into decided to stop dead right in front of us to take pictures or to look at their map. They were completely oblivious to anyone around them. Still, I always say "excuse me" or "I'm sorry" whether it was my fault or not. Being considerate and good manners can go a long way.

I'd have to say the original issue here is the OPs dislike for SUV anything. They obviously already have a negative association with it, so ANYONE found doing ANYTHING remotely wrong while in possession with anything "SUV" worthy will be dirt in their book.

Me thinks therapy is in order. :goodvibes

PS
The term SUV stroller is irritating.

I agree with sue, congrats on the win btw... I'm a gamma going with my grandson & im.going to bring his "big obnoxious stroller" that he is comfy in & used to so when he's tired I can enjoy quite time without so huge track to hotel. I'm kind & considerate when operating it too, I guess we could say we dont like rude obnoxious ppl in park to so should complainers be kept out LMAOOOO

My youngest daughter stopped using her stroller for trips at 6 but my nephew who was the same age still needed his. It really depends on the kid. Had my daughter needed one than I would have rented or brought one. :thumbsup2 It is a personal decision and nobody's business but my own. And I certainly wouldn't judge anyone who wants to bring whatever size stroller. And when my kids were little they napped in their stroller all the time at the parks. :confused3 Big deal. I think some people get too wrapped up in whatever everyone else is doing.

:thumbsup2 Totally agree!

Agreed and I want to add that those that keep saying what they do as some kind of fix to another persons issues. Just because it works good for you doesnt make it right or helpful for anyone else.

I'm sorry, but this is starting to almost seem funny to me. Your enjoyment of The Happiest Place on Earth is all wrapped up in me, and others. Why? I have a feeling you stroller haters might be the people who dead stop in front of us and then give us dirty looks when we bump into you. You can't do that on Main Street! Whatever though, I'm going to have no matter what. There will be the occasional grouchy CM, the singers on POC, the 'elbows up' crowd, the EVC renter who's not the best yet with their ride, and sometimes worse, but they can't ruin my trip. Only I can do that, same for you. If I let things bother me like that, I'd never go anywhere at all.

... I think it boils down to what works for you and your family. And unfortunately, you'll never make everyone happy!

Yep!

This is what it all comes down to!

My chief complaint is these people w/huge strollers (double or single) as some of the single strollers can be just as big. When my kids were 1 and 3, I brought an umbrella (with an extended handle, as my husband is 6'3) and a smaller single with an under carraige to carry some things. I think some people can really relate to these people who have these huge strollers and think they rule the walkways. Not only in the park, but in the elevators, on the streets, etc. I just think it's rude. We were at Seaworld and Legoland a few months ago and you could barely get around some places at Seaworld. Legoland is much more open so that was easier. I do realize there are rude adults that stand in the way, etc, I just feel like these people with ginormous strollers think that because they have kids in them, they have the right away. I know my opinion is not popular, but I think some will agree that it's true.

Well, I'm very glad you had two able-bodied adults to push strollers around. Now, pretend your DH is disabled and you have to push both kids on your own. What would you bring?

I think perhaps your complaint is misstated, perhaps you hate rude people with strollers? Quite frankly, I'm not fond of rude people, regardless of their possession of (or size of) a stroller. I'm not fond of the group of people standing in the (very slow) elevator at the hotel so that DH can't get in on with his ECV, but they have the right (though perhaps not all the necessity, but it would stand to reason that not everybody in every group is disabled) to use the elevator, the same as him. I can (and do) carry our stroller down (and sometimes back up, though generally the elevator has more availability in the evening) the stairs at the motel; he cannot do the same with an ECV.

The great stroller debate of 2012! Reading these boards I have learned two things; 1) Don't ask about how to get into Club 33 and 2) Never mention strollers! :rotfl2:

Number one, to the person who said I can't be happy with anything, including the leashes, I did not say that, that was another poster.

Secondly, I realize there are rude people everywhere, but feel if someone is rude enought to bring in their "SUV" stroller, they are rude in general and really only concerned about their needs.

Obviously someone who has a special needs or disabled child will need special things. Noone is arguing with that.

I never said only an umbrella would be acceptable, there are many decent sized single and double strollers with sun covers, undercarraiges, etc.

If I am considerate of others enough to not bring in my huge stroller, you can bet I'm also not one of those adults standing and blocking the way.

Finally, if you want to say I was publically complaining, why do you think I posted the comment. Just hoping it would make some people think about others.

For the person who stated that I cannot say what bothers me, you must be kidding. I think I have clearly said those huge strollers take up way more room in restrooms, elevators, path ways, restaurants. Makes it hard for the rest of us to move around. Need I go on.

Also, you can't tell me that two single strollers in front of eachother take up more room than a double (again, huge double). They are not blocking the way when they are inline.

Seems simple to me.

Wow. There is no getting through to you is there?

Bringing in a "SUV" stroller, does NOT make you rude, or inconsiderate. People bring what they have. I highly doubt people purposly bring large strollers to take up more space. (only you would think that way)

& who are you to judge is an older child is in a stroller? Who cares if a 10 year old is riding in one! Mabye they need it. It is NOT your place to look at a child in a stroller and judge whether they need it or not. And its none of you buisness anyways.

:rotfl2:
Do you not see, that you are alone here? No one cares about strollers besides you! So quit being RUDE and inconsiderate of other people by asking them not to bring what they need into the parks, just to appease YOU.

Oh and i have a challenge for ya. Next time you go to DL, how bout you worry about yourself and your family? not everyone else ;)

I'm sorry if this offends you (actually...I may not be that sorry). It's fine to complain about rude people...I agree that people should be considerate...but if I have two children that are "age appropriate to be in a stroller" (since some of you feel that there should be an age limit)...I still only have 2 arms! How do you expect me to push 2 smaller strollers instead of one double stroller??? Its a legitimate question with the suggestions you've posted.

:rolleyes1

It doesn't make sense...just like it doesn't make sense to throw people with double strollers in the category of being rude and inconsiderate...

Once again, you both just proved my point. I also never said about child's ages, those were other posters and I do believe some people supported my opinion. Certainly the people like me who have been pushed into the back of an elevator, and out of store aisles see my point. I just really don't understand why people think that because they have kids entitles them to take up major space and plow on through. I do understand that a single person would need a double stroller, just not an SUV type like another poster said.

I will not say anymore as I think it's been talked about to death, but clearly people do care either way or this many of you wouldn't have responded.

:thumbsup2 Well said!

Why I choose my double stroller over 2 singles: Baby swap! If DH is taking our over 40" kids on a ride, he's leaving me with 2 under 40" kids. If I have 2 strollers I am stuck in one spot for the duration they are in line and riding. If I have my double I can grab a snack, head to the bathroom, find a nearby ride I can take the 2 little ones on by myself. With 2 adults and 4 kids, its extremely convenient to have one parent with free hands to hold onto the older ones....who weren't really all that "old".

And you can tell which is which by just looking at them? X-ray vision?

Absolutely do what's best for you....what's best for some is letting their 8 year old hop a ride in the stroller for the walk back to the hotel because no matter what time they left, they were going to be too tired to walk back to the hotel.

OP you say those with huge strollers shouldn't bring their strollers because its rude to not consider others needs.....ummm aren't you doing the same thing by condemning those that have bigger strollers? Aren't YOU being rude for not considering THEIR needs.....or is it all about you and your needs? To everyone else that has issues with other's stroller choices (not talking about getting rammed in the ankles, but have issues with size of the stroller or how old of a child is in the stroller)....GET OVER YOURSELF!!! ITS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!!!! Enjoy your own family, and stop getting bent out of shape because someone does it differently than you.

Well said and very good points! Why is it anyones business what I choose to do for my family!

So let me be one who wants to thank all of you who are bringing strollers, no matter how large.
Thank you for bringing along a stroller that will carry the things that will help keep your children calm and happy while in the parks.
Thank you for bringing a stroller because you have a child like my 4yo, who would not make it through the day without some combination of lagging far behind the family or whining about how tired he is from the walking and how he needs a stroller or to be carried.
Thank you for bringing a stroller because you have a child like my whirling-dervish 2yo and you are doing your best to contain them when moving from one place to another or at a stationary event like a parade or WOC.
Thank you for trying to do the best for your family, because as a parent of a special-needs child with an "invisible" disability like my 7yo, I know how it is for you have to do things differently from others and feel people judging you for not conforming to their standards.
Thank you for bringing a stroller so you don't strain your back when a tired or sleepy child needs to be carried, because I want you to have a nice time, too. And being around other people who are having a more orderly, nicer time allows me to have a nicer time. So thank you.

As a mother of 5 girls. You are very welcome! I was trying to be accommodating to other people around me by putting my youngest two in a stroller so that I do not loose them. Saftey first! :goodvibes

Do I need to know the difference? It is not like I am the "stroller police" giving out sitations for abuser. I am simply stating my opinion. And my opinion is that the average child over the age of 5 has no need for a stroller. The stroller is NOT for the child at that point but for the convience of the parent.

The biggest reason I have heard so far for an older child being in a stroller (other than medical needs) is that they couldnt' keep up with the rest of the group. Here is a whacky idea SLOW DOWN.

Sometimes a child does needs a brake and mothers all have a different ways of dealing with that need. She can sit quietly in the stroller while you all wait in line. Maybe that is all the slowing down that's needed. To find a ride and let the child sit down, have a drink and a snack. That's how that family choose to deal with that need and that's ok. We don't all have to handle our children the same way.

The great stroller debate of 2012! Reading these boards I have learned two things; 1) Don't ask about how to get into Club 33 and 2) Never mention strollers! :rotfl2:
SO RIGHT!!! :lmao:

Op's post was totally infamatory and should never have gone as far as it has. Why on earth would you sit in judgement of another mother! I mean really! If there is one thing that bonds us all as women it's our children. We can all understand a mother doing what's best for her family. A mother that is doing the best she can period. Why not show some grace and give people the benefit of the doubt. You have no idea what goes on in another person life. Why would you sit in judgment over something as lame as what stroller they chose to bring to the park that day? I mean does it really matter so much that you would bring it up on a board meant to help one another with planning your family (big or small family) vacation? Why start something you knew had the potential to offend other people? Where is the consideration in that? :confused3

Yes, actually two singles, one in front of the other, with two pushers (one for each) DOES take up more room than my Graco Duo Glide with one pusher.

But you know what? I am going to continue to bring whatever stroller(s) works for my family. I know it doesn't make me rude or inconsiderate of others. And I will enjoy my trip, with my happy, well rested children like I always do. You can waste your time & energy being annoyed with me.

I hope I never run into some of these people in this thread at Disneyland because the way they are defending their opinions reminds me of the nasty girls in high school.

I think that the OP was entitled to bring up their opinion.

I believe that those who oppose that opinion are warranted to share in their opinions as well.

However, the way some of you are approaching this seems downright disgusting.

I can see the pluses and minuses for both sides to this conversation... and I think it's too bad that we can't discuss this as adults.

Secondly, I realize there are rude people everywhere, but feel if someone is rude enought to bring in their "SUV" stroller, they are rude in general and really only concerned about their needs.
.

But you are only concerned about your needs so how are you any better? I have a double jogger....that's it. So the polite thing would be to buy a new stroller? 2 new strollers? Sorry you are out of luck. I'll be bringing it our next trip for my 2 you gets who will be 5 and almost 4. Our hotel is a 10-15 minute walk away. And DH may give our son a ride on his shoulders so our 7 yr old can hop in the stroller. She has asthma and sometimes tires out easily especially with the LA smog.....which I'm sure PP could tell by just looking at her with their X-ray vision.
