HUGE Question------- I seem to be LOSING $$ with a package

I was breaking down the cost of pulling into Disney and getting a room and tickets and DDP without a ressie. Yes I know....not possible but my numbers are a little off and if anyone could help I would so greatly appreciate it.

We are staying 5 nights 3/9-3/14/08 at Coronado total for standard room at $189 per night $945

5 nights for 2 adults on the Del. DDP: $699.90
5 nights for 1 child on the Del. DDp: $99.95.............. TOTAL: $799.85

6 day park hopper ticket: $722

TOTAL WALK UP COST: $2466.85

Now if I added travel insurance ($133.90) to that total I get $2600.75

The package I booked through Disney with trip insurance is $2785.05

Where is the $184.30 difference? I know the price for the room could be higher then the base price but thats still not enough to cover the difference. I know the money difference may not matter to some people but I just want to figure where that other money is going.

I haven't checked all your numbers, but it seems that you haven't added the room tax on to your hotel. I think that it is 11.5%/night which would be slightly over $100. Also there is tax on the tickets. Did you remember to include that?

I don't think there is savings with the package other than the fact that you can't get the dining plan unless you have one.

you can't get the DDP as a walk up - you can only get a room only

Yes, you forgot room tax at 12.5%. That's $118.

Looks like you left off tax on your park tickets too. I get a total of $799 including tax.

It is not always cheaper to go with a package. That's all there is too it. You have to look into it and see what is cheapest. Now, if you want the dining plan, you have to go with a package. You can't get the dining plan if you book room only.

I just booked our trip in Jan/Feb. With a AAA room only rate it is FAR cheaper for us to go room only and add on tickets then to do a package with tickets. We don't really care about the dining plan since I don't think it will actually save us $$ so we are going room only.

Yeah I knew about not being able to get the DDP without a package but I was just throwing the numbers in there. I did forget the taxes. That would probably cover that missing money. Thanks!
