HUGE NEWS!!! No more day by day booking?

I would think some people would book a day or 2 earlier than when they really want to come, and later change their reservation.... and take those earlier days off. Not sure if that makes sense.

I only have 200 points, so I would not really have that flexibility.

I think there is a limit of 7 nights, so if people try to add extra days at the beginning of their reservation and then want to stay a week then they won't be able to book there whole vacation and would have to call back to add the rest of there days, seems like a hassle to me.

This may work well for me since I usually arrive Saturday. Alot of people start stays on Sunday, so I could book a day before them. On the other hand, it's going to be hard to book a stay starting Monday to Thursday during popular times, those rooms may already be gone when your 11 or 7 month check-in day comes.

There should be a rule about dropping that first night as a way to beat the rules, in my opinion that should cancel the entire reservation.

agreed- I would be very surprised if they don't have this rule- it is such an obvious loophole to beat the system- it was the 1st thing that i thought of when i heard about this.

I agree, but then there is always that honest DVC member out there that can't get a flight out and have to fly out the next day (which has happened to us). So will the honest DVC member be punished? I'm not thrilled with the change either since we book standard rooms at BWV at the 11 month window. I see alot of folks getting holes in their plans. Everytime a person wants a 7 day reservation, the last couple of days will always be available, but the beginning days will be occupied. I don't travel during holidays, but did buy my BWV points for October trips w/standard room stays.

This might seem like a stupid question, but sorry I am new! How would you book say, 10 nights? So I call 11 months from my check in date to book the first 7 nights, then when do I call back to book the remainder?

I wondered that too, and am waiting to see how that works. Often we visit for 12 nights, so do we call for the first 7, then call every day for the next 5 to add a night??? only time will tell....stay tuned because this is new to all of us, old and new.

I think you would call twice- once 11/7 mos prior to check-in, then again 11/7 months prior to day 8 of your trip to book the last 5 days.

So then it seems like we will still be doing the day by day thing!:confused3

DVC is opening up a big can of worms if they don't make you cancel the original and rebook.

And as someone posted on the other thread about this subject, they thought some long time owners who were discussing this wouldn't be trying to use this strategy. The whole basis of successfully owning any timeshare system or trading is trying to find the loopholes and using them to your advantage.

You have to wonder if DVC looked at any of the other point based systems and their policies before kind of going off down this road.:(

What is the DVC memebrs website address? What is needed to sigon fo rthe first time? I just joined today but have read where people can get access prior to getting their infromation in the mail.

It's not on the website, as of Friday night. Your best bet for current info is here or Tim's DVC news site.

I really think people are making much too big a deal out of this.

If you go during the peak time and you get a unit which is in high demand (maybe the grand villa), then probably this will effect you. However, for the overwhelming number of members, this is not going to have any effect whatsoever - other than making things easier for them and MS if they call to make their reservation exactly 11 months prior to their stay. If you want a studio or one bedroom and it's not a holiday weekend, then I find it almost incomprehensible that everyone with your use year is going to be calling immediately 11 months from their check-in date and lock you out.

For the 12 night stay - if you need to reserve it immediately the first possible moment, reserve the first 7 nights, then call back in 7 and reserve the last 5. Or, better yet, just call 11 months from your checkout date and reserve all 12 on one shot.

Again, if it's anything but the highest demand period for the highest demand rooms, I don't understand the problem.
