This site will ask you to enter your annual salary (they do it in pounds, dollars, yen, etc.) Then it will tell you how rich you are. I am teacher and I am in the top 5% of the world. Humbling. Then it tells you what one day's salary will buy for the poor. And it tells you how you can help.

I thought we should all check it out next time we are whining about not being able to go to WDW one year or not getting to stay in a deluxe, etc.

Check it out!

Yup, I've seen this before. Public librarian, also top 5%.
I know that globally, I am doing well. Yet, I do not have DVC, multiple trips to WDW, iPhone, D&B. I am not whining or complaining. I am happy. I spend less money that I make. I think I am doing well. And ever so much better than so much of the world's population.
I am grateful.

Yeah, I checked that site out earlier today. While it is nice to be in the top percentile globally it completely leaves out cost of living and how developed your society is in comparison to others. It would be like saying you are making $100,000 in Manhattan and you are richer than someone making $95,000 in Des Moines or, even worse, an undeveloped area of Africa. Global economic analysis is much more complicated then one long, single criteria, X axis.

I think that site is trying to guilt you into donating to a charity and while I am generous with causes I believe in trying to guilt me into a donation will work exactly 0% of the time.

I didn't look at it that way. I think the charity they post changes. They aren't afilitated with any one. Just thought it was interesting. :)

Thanks - this is interesting and a bit eye opening. I find putting in a small number even more so. Enter $1000 and you'll see that more than 65% of the world makes less than that per year. We are indeed very fortunate.

You hit the nail on the head.

The site didn't claim to be doing global economic analysis. It compared itself to the "richest people in the world list" to give you an idea where you sit. Those lists don't take any cost of living into account, only total income.

I think the site was meant to kick us in the a$$ and show us how fortunate we are, and to show what a small donation can do for those who are less fortunate than us.

But, of course, your mileage may vary. Have a magical day!
:thumbsup2
