My kids like the Great Movie Ride. They close their eyes for Alien.
Yes, you have plenty of warning that you're going into the spaceship. My DD has always buried her head in my shoulder and I hug her tight. Mother-daughter bonding time!! And she was 12 the last time we went, and she still decided to close her eyes.
The other part that could be scary is the horror movie section full of skeletons. Same thing - you know you're going into it and you could hug her and have her cover her eyes. It doesn't sound scary - that narration would put you to sleep, even in the scariest parts. The Great Movie Ride folks need to spend some time on Jungle Cruise to learn how to use inflection and personality in their voices LOL.
I have no problem avoiding anything that she wants to. We'll ride it someday. She still won't ride Haunted Mansion, and it took her a long time to go on Pirates. Whatever - I stay off the ride with her and we do something together. One time, she told me her favorite thing at Disney World was walking down Main Street, holding my hand.
