HS Rise of Resistance movíng to standby on September 23!

Was there this morning just to see how it was going. I woke up at 9:04 and the wait time on the app said 150 minutes. I chuckled to myself and got in the shower, got out and it was 220 minutes. I got to the park around 1030 and the wait had dropped to 100. I walked the long way around through Toy Story Land and saw a lot of open, unused extended queue for the ride, then the wait time said "Standby 75 minutes". I couldn't believe it! It was all fully contained within the ROTR queue. I did some shopping, rode Star Tours (5 minutes) and left. As I'm writing this now, the app says 95 minutes. Maybe this isn't so bad after all?

EDIT: I saw on another forum the insanity that was the rope drop procedures where it looked like all that extended queue that I saw was being used. Looks like it's better to wait it out and let the wait time drop around lunch time and try it then.

Honestly, while I'm watching this as much as anyone, until the crowd increase for the Anniversary comes into play and the IAS factor as well the times probably don't mean much for the near future.
It depends how you define near future. Today's wait times may be very relevant . . . if you're going in the next week.

Let's see what happens at 2 when hopping opens.
Posted wait time is now 50 minutes, which is actually 5 minutes shorter then slinky dog dash. I've posted this before, but I think Disney is in real trouble attendance-wise. We are now at 39 of the last 41 days Crowd Level 1's, and the other two days (Labor Day Weekend), Crowd Level 2's. All of these cutbacks and changes recently, I think they've miscalculated. In the same time period Universal has ranged from 1's to crowd level 8's, with everything in between.

I think everyone is overestimating the crowd increase for the anniversary at this point. What, exactly, is going to draw people on October 1st? Or better yet, what is going to draw people on October 2nd - October 30th?

I mean, i know people keep responding to this but It seems like a huge hadooh about nothing. I mean, school is in, so obviously crowds are lower. If you are planning to skip school and come visit, why not wait until the 50th anniversary? Clearly September has a bunch of people that are going to decide to just wait until October. That is probably exaggerated by the fact that so many kids were virtual last year, and so those families (like myself) feel more comfortable missing days in October closer to fall break, rather than taking kids out of school after just getting back in after 1.5 years. NOt that it is really reasonable to miss school in October either, after all that happened, but...who ever said a Disney trip was "reasonable?" So the combination of school finally back in and a huge 50th anniversary, and it is not surprising at all.

Add in the Delta surge and international travel being reduced and it doesn't seem to really indicate much of anything, certainly not anything about Genie+ as some others have suggested. Now, if October does measurably worse than Universal, that would be something...but thats also not realistic.

EDIT: One final note. Because the trip is so expensive, I am sure many people want to wait until things get closer to 100% again. If it is truly a one in 10 year event, it is probably best to wait a bit to let everything open up fully, get more staff trained etc, than rush out in September. It appears like that is the plan in October, so that is just one more reason to postpone, rather than come in September.

I think October 1st will be crowded - MK and Epcot both remain sold out for park passes. The rest of October and November, I'm not sure.

Except that hotels look to be very full starting on the 1st. So that can be an indication of crowds to come?

Hotel wise there still seems to be good availability. I can book a Value Resort like All Star Music and Pop Century for October 2nd - 8th and lots of options for Deluxe hotels.

October 1st I'm sure is probably busy.

sorry...didnt mean to reply:)

Saw a post on Twitter it took someone 15 minutes to get to pre-show and wait sign said 80 minutes.

“This doesn’t sit well with me. I need long waits so we can squeeze every dollar from our guests. We need to buy Twitter ASAP.” - Bob Chapek, probably.

There is still almost no availability for the time we’re going (November 5-15). I’m interested to see if that changes when we hit the 30 day mark. I’m worried that it’s going to be very crowded and wish we’d been able to go now instead, but we’ll make the best of it.

I'm not convinced the lines will be 5 hours most of the time. The reasonn I disliked the VQ is exemplified by the experience of @dcpluto - they were shut out of the option to ride, plain and simple. They even had a 1 PM boarding group, but it was cancelled. With a standby queue, they would have at least have had the choice to ride.

Well, the lines were 3 already hours long at 9:30am today and crowds are light.

Is it truly a better experience to spend all day waiting in line and potentially not experiencing most of the rest of the park and perhaps not even the thing you are waiting for? What if you wait for 4 hours and the ride breaks down? Rise of Resistance is a complex ride that does break down. You wouldn't get to ride either, same thing that would happen with a virtual pass. But in the case of the virtual queue you would have been spending those 4 hours enjoying other experiences.

The lines were never 3 hours long, the MDE times were way off. Reports on the ground had the liens at their worst being around an hour fifteen to an hour and a half.

At some point, all this "Bob Chapek" stuff has to stop doesn't it. People around here think he is the same guy that didn't bring towels to the room, didn't warm the pools from 72 to 74 degrees, didn't sweep the floor of California Grill under the table before they were seated, etc. etc. etc.

I mean, that guy runs a multi billion company. He does not have input in the day to day operations of WDW. He has PEOPLE that do that.

Yes, he signs off on stuff just like most of us check the bottom box on the MDE before we hit approve, but good god people, he has bigger worries. pirate:

Not picking on you at all OP by quoting on you, I could of picked a million quotes just like it.

Bob Chapek tells Parks Chairman Josh D'Amaro to reduce costs by 5%. D'Amaro tells each of his VP's to reduce costs by 5%. It gets down to each resort manager who say, "I can save 5% by reducing the water temperature by 2 degrees."

This is all about the direction set by Chapek.

Same here. DH and I are going in Nov for food and wine. We have friends that just decided they
would like to join us and there is extremely slim pickings. Our party of 16 moved the trip from
WDW to DL for Dec so i canceled quite a few rooms. The next day I was curious if there would
be availability for that week and nope snatched up!!

Im encouraged by these first reports of ROTR. Coming back Jan or Feb so HOPING wait times
will be ok. Especially if we stay onsite.
