We are arriving on a saturday in Oct hoping to take an early flight and get to florida by 10am, i know it takes a bit to get to the resort but we want to hit a park the day we arrive. Which park would be our best option? Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios. I've read both are like half day parks

Others will disagree but I have never been able to do either in half a day. I spend a full day at each and still don't see everything. If you have never been to either before, then you definitely need more time.

However, if you aren't concerned with seeing everything, I would recommend DHS, only because they are typically open later and you'll have more time there. I actually prefer AK but think it's most enjoyable first thing in the morning.

Personally I would go with animal kingdom. We always only do animal kingdom for a 1/2. Hollywood studios is usually a full day for us bc we see all the shows do some rides and breakfast and lunch ts meals there as well. This trip we aren't even going to animal kingdom bc it doesn't really appeal to anyone in our group. The only thing we really like about animal kingdom is the 2 shows they have and the safari. Definitely would choose animal kingdom

I will be traveling with a 7 and 2 year old. I have 6 day pass so i know will be able to do some parks twice. i was thinking 2 days at MK and maybe 2 days at Epcot, I was thinking of doing HS because it does close later

I'm usually alone on this, but 2 days at Epcot is always so odd sounding to me, especially with young children. As an adult, it's nice to stroll around the countries and sample food and drinks, but I fail to see the appeal for children in this park (especially when I was younger myself). I can do one day at Epcot and finish everything that I want to see.

I love DHS and I know many disagree with it, but I love that park. I would recommend spending a full day there. Fantasmic is great if you have never seen it before. While the 2 year old couldn't do things like Rock n Roller Coaster or Tower of Terror, the 7 year old probably could if they would like and those rides are so fun. Plus, for the 2 year old there are many shows that they could enjoy like Disney Jr or the Frozen musical.

Animal Kingdom is a park that I could probably spend 1/2 a day in, but usually do a full day. Especially if you have never been there before. There are lots of trails and shows here, plus it really is just a beautiful park. If you are choosing between AK and DHS, I would chose AK for the half day.

What I personally am going to recommend is going to Epcot on your first half day. I think 1 1/2 days at Epcot with younger children is plenty, and with that you'll still get 1 day DHS, 1 day AK, and 2 days MK.

In my mind, the Safari is the highlight attraction of Animal Kingdom. As the animals are typically most active in the morning, I would plan to do this park on a day other than your arrival day. With DHS, grabbing FP+ for that park before you arrive seems like a solid bet and should allow you to see the key pieces there before the end of the day.

First, there are no half day, full day, or two day parks. The time it takes to see each depends greatly on what you are interested in doing, how long you stay, and how long you consider half a day (3-4 hrs: morning to lunch or 6-8 hrs when the park is open 12 hours or more, but you only stay half the time it is open). People who say AK and HS are half day parks and then list out what they do usually only include about 3 to 5 attractions at most at each of those parks. However, if you did 75% to 100% of the attractions, it would take at least a full day opening to close to complete everything once. Those two parks are never half day parks for us because we like to do more than just the 2 or 3 headliners. We always plan a full day at each park and still run out of time. For instance, I have been trying for years to catch the Flights of Wonder show at AK, but have never been able to fit it in.

As far as which to try, I think that depends on a few things.

Do your children like animals or dinosaurs? Especially, the toddler?

If your kids are big into either, they will love AK and want to stay all day. If animals aren't their thing, they may get bored quickly and want to leave.

For animals and dino lovers, you’ve got the zoo aspect as well as the safari. You’ve got the petting zoo, the kiddy dino rides, the dino carnival games, and the dino play area. There are also the Wilderness Explorer’s Badges which are hands on activities that take 3-5 hours to complete alone if you do them all. Then there is the Nemo show and the Lion King show which both appeal to kids.

Other attractions that might interest your kids are the train ride and the Rainforest Cafe or the Tusker house character meal. The second is a very well themed buffet and a lot of fun with a Mickey and friends led parade.

There are other shows and rides at this park as well, but those are the ones I think would most appeal to your kid’s ages.

The second thing to consider is: Will the 2 year old sit through shows?

Both AK and HS have a number of shows, some of them very good, even for younger kids, but if your child doesn’t have the attention span to sit through them yet, it won’t matter how good they are. Shows comprise about half of HS attractions and rides themed more toward teens/adults make up close to the other half. So if the toddler is too young for most of the rides and can’t sit through the shows, that doesn’t leave a lot to do at HS. The main attractions for your whole family I think would be Toy Story, Star Wars, and Disney Jr. which doesn't leave a lot to do unless you are willing to split up or use baby-swap for the rides.

That doesn’t necessarily mean you don’t want to do HS though. If you think it will be the park you end up needing the least amount of time in, then it makes sense to do it as a half day park since it is open later. This way you could get the few things you really want to do here taken care of without wasting a full day later on. However, if you are asking about whether to do HS or AK altogether, then I’d say that unless your kids hate animals, AK is the better choice for entertaining a toddler.

DHS, definitely. First, half the shows aren't even up & running until 11:00, and then the park does stay open late. We're not huge DHS fans to be honest, but it would absolutely be my first choice for a late-arrival park.

AK is best at rope drop & the park closes early. So, that makes it a poor choice for a late arrival IMO.

I would say for us it's AK that is a half day but my kids hate animals and my son is terrified of petting zoos after a bad experience with a goat so we didn't even go near it.

I like the idea up thread of doing 1/2 a day at Epcot the day you arrive then a full day later in your trip giving you 1 1/2 days there. While I LOVED Epcot I don't know if you need 2 full days there especially with little kids.
