Any other Harry Potter fans here? I am a self proclaimed HP geek as I have read the series several times.
Consequently, I am super excited about the Wizarding World opening up this year at Universal. However, being a Disney Snob, I am not familiar at all with the ins and outs of US. I always felt that I would be betraying the Mouse if I gave my money to them. For HP I will have to stray ;)
We have a 10 day trip to Disney planned this Summer which should give me one day to enjoy Hogsmeade. Any pointers, tips, resources for touring it?
Thanks

It is not opening until Spring, so I think info is still a little sketchy.
We are thinking about going over for a day during our June trip. We bought tickets last year and then ended up staying at WDW the whole time.

I just read some of your trip report and I wonder if we will be there at the same time - I have a 14 yo that is looking forward to Star Wars weekends as well! I think he would totally dig going to WW for the day too.
Maybe we can get out boys together as he doesn't love hanging with my 3 year old

Huge HP fan here! I can't wait and fortunately since I live in the area I can go often (have AP). Probably will not go opening weekend as I'd expect it to be crazy busy. Can't wait to see what the new ride will be.:goodvibes

What are your dates? We are there June 4-19. My DS will be 14 this month. We are always up for meeting other DIS folks!

would love a review after you attend!:thumbsup2

I'll be in Orlando quite a bit this year, but I doubt I will be able to get to US until December.

Perhaps with US's track record of late openings, it will be open with some of the kinks worked out too.:goodvibes

We'll see how frustrated I get with the whole US/IOA thing.
At first my plan was to move over there for our last 3 nights, but then I decided not to. So now if we want "Front of the Line" we'll have to pay to add it. BUT they don't seem to know what their park hours will be and they don't know how much front of the line will cost. I have little patience for crap like that. We'll also have to sort out transportation from WDW, which will be a pain no matter what we do. Rental car, taxi, one isn't better than the other. From a transportation standpoint it would have been easier to move to a US/IOA hotel for the last 3 nights and go straight to the airport from there. We also need one more park pass, because our free Super Bowl pass from last year expired. Drama, drama...:rolleyes1

I'm a bit of a HP fan, but, my DW is a HP geek and I'm generally willing to humour her obsessions. So, we've said for years that we need to go to US/IOA sometime, but, now she's happy to wait until after the initial crowds die down (she hopes).

What we'll do remains to be seen. I have little expectation of enjoying most of Universal (I get motion sick on Carousel of Progress!!!), but, when we run trip prices it seems like planning for a full trip to US is more cost effective than a joint trip. We'll have to see....

Please give us your report after you visit.

(JSG -- I'll look forward to learning how you deal with the split trip.)

Going to US/IOA isnt as much cheating on Disney as it used to be. Disney got a distribution contract with WB for the HP movies (that's why they've been all over ABC Family in recent months), and now you can visit "Disney's Marvel Island" in IOA :rotfl2:

I wondered how that would be handled, Disney's buying Marvel ...

Not a huge HP fan, and definitely not a fan of US/IOA. Not out of any loyalty to Disney necessarily, just don't care for the atmosphere there and the way things are run. :confused3

We had APs when we first came to the Orlando area, same with Sea World, but now we only maintain our WDW APs... although I nearly didn't do that this year.

Anyway, having said all that I am interested in hearing how the HP fans find the new area of the park. ::yes::

Who knows!? We may just break out of our rut and venture forth! :rotfl:

We will probably go in September, but I am disappointed that two of the rides they are using for this new "Island" are just modifications to existing rides.

The Harry Potter Exhibition is currently at the Boston Museum of Science, where I work part-time. It's a traveling exhibition and it is here until February. They haven't announced where it is going next. So, for any HP fans here in the Boston area, let me know if you'd like to come see it. :)

Some friends of mine saw it there :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc loved it!
Said it was so much more than they expected.

I am a huge Harry Potter fan. I've read all the books and listened to them all and seen all the movies. One of my friends really wants to go to the MOS to see the exhibition but I don't know.

I'm just curious about what they liked about it. Just seems to not belong in the Museum of SCIENCE. Know what I mean?

We've gotten that a lot, I've even joked we're turning into the Museum of Science Fiction since the past few exhibits have been Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Mythical Creatures. If you love HP, you'll love the exhibit. Word is it's boosting attendance a lot, so while this may not have a focus on science, it sure helps pay for the $9million dollar renovation to the Planetarium.
But anyone who wants to see the HP exhibit, let me know and I can get you in! :wizard:

I saw the exhibit and I LOVED LOVED LOVED it!!! They did such a great job. It's so theatrical and textural. The costumes are gorgeous in person, and I loved all of the design of the props. Seriously, anyone in the area that is the least bit interested in HP you need to see it. Yeah, not much science, but who cares. It will bring people to the museum that might not usually go.

I told a friend at work about it and she wants to go, but only if I go with her. Since I saw it I can't see paying to see it again. But if you can get us in with a discount... hmmm? Send me a PM and let me know if you are serious.

Anyone going to Infinitus in July? It's a HP conference put on by HPEF in Orlando this July 15 - 18, held at the Royal Pacific at Universal. I'll definitely be there and am thinking about lingering at WDW for a couple days afterwards.
