I went to HOS on 10/14 this year. It was a Thursday night, and I hoped a normal slow off peak night. I unfortunately was VERY wrong, and it turned out to be Hell Week at HOS as well as HHN. First, I must say the Fright Feast package was worth every penny of the $24 I paid for it. It gave us a buffet, exclusive access to the houses from 7 -7:30, and also front of the line access till 8:30. Without those, we never would have gotten it done. Now onto my trip to HOS..
We arrived early to BG. This was the first year we have done HOS and not had any type of passes to the park. We arrived around 5:20 or so, and just hit the parking attendants. If we would have gotten there 5-10 min sooner, we would have parked free We paid the $12 to park(still the cheapest of all the parks) and got right on the tram. We stopped right at the gates and were able to get right in with our Fright Feast confirmation info. They gave us wristbands and directed us to Desert Grill for FF. We noticed the walls with the new Cheetah Hunt construction, and made our way to FF. We watched the elephants for a bit, then went and checked into FF. They gave us our wristbands for that, and we went in to eat about 5:50. We headed right to the buffet. The buffet contained..
- Chicken Fingers
- 2 types of salads
- Potato wedges
- Chicken Dijon
- Pasta with 2 types of sauces
- Beef Stew
- Vegetable Medley
- Bread Basket
- Mac & Cheese
- Various deserts
- Pepsi soda products and iced tea
While the food was nothing to write home about, we ate up. The food was better in years past , but filling either way. We got to watch the show Blood Relations at 6:30. The show was over at 7. They let us out, and we began our exclusive access to the houses. We headed right for the first house
Trapped in the Wall :Ghostchasers This was the 5th installment I believe of this house. While not much has changed but the entrance, I still got a few good scares in here. Hubby and I managed to shake both the group in front and behind us, so we were basically alone. The scare actors played well off each other, making sure to let me know I was next, and my husband wouldnt be able to save me!! Scares were frequent though, even though nothing inside had changed much. I give it 3 out of 5.
As we were leaving the house, a team member informed us that this was the final year of TITW. Something else will be in its place next year. We continued on, out of the area, and headed to
Taste of Blood: A Different View Again, same house as previous years, but this year a different entrance. This small change was disorienting enough to make the house all new. Again, hubby and I were alone, so scares were constant. I had a creepy scare actor following me at one point, which freaked me out beyond all belief. Overall this was a fun house, and no sparkly vampires to be had! I give it 3 out of 5 as well, only because of the new entrance.
We proceeded to head to the Jungala scare zone Road Trip. There was NO ONE at this point in the scare zone. The wolves took advantage of this, and I was quickly surrounded by a pack of 4 or so. This was a great scare zone, and great use of space.
We continued on. By this time it was 7:30, and the park was open to the public. The crowds were QUICKLY coming in. We walked over to Stanley Falls area, and headed to..
DED: Extreme Rush This is at least the 3rd year of this house, but the first time for me in its current location. Honestly this house did nothing for me. It was actually kind of stupid. There were a few cheap scares, but most of the girls in the house were just screaming at the guys walking through. I gave it 2 outta 5.
We passed by Sheikra and moved to the bridge by the birds. Disappointed this area wasnt used as a scare zone this year. We walked down toward the kiddie area and here is where the crowds were getting large. We walked into Spiders and Snakes. In years past, this has always been a popular scare zone, this year was just kind of..meh. Some decent scares, but the crowds really put a damper on the good ones. A lot of the kids were yelling back and being all cool for their girlfriends, causing the scare actors to just ignore them. This would be a recurring theme for the rest of the night.
We passed out of there, and worked our way to Gwazi area. There were some random clowns causing havoc that was amusing. Later this area would have a zombie invasion. Unofficial scare zones are the best! We continued around until we arrived at..
My X: Revenge Rocks This house had potential to be decent. I enjoyed the protestors around the outside, and the random people telling you to hurry in. Otherwise, the house was kind of stupid. We were in a large group, and many of the ppl in the group were being loud and annoying. Overall an OK house, a 2 out of 5.
We left, against the large crowd of people coming in. We walked by the 21+ only Club X, empty at this hour, but kept moving. We only had time for 3 houses left before our exclusive time ended, so we got in line for..
Nightshade Toys: Son of Nightshade I have never done this house, and I loved its location. This house was FULL of great scares. The toys were creepy and the people inside were as well. There were lots to look at and going through the room of talking stuffies was creepy. This was by far our favorite house of the night. We gave it a 5 of 5!
By now, it was close to 8:30, and we had 2 houses left. We followed the wall and worked our way through the scare zone Light of Doom. Honestly, this scare zone was dumb the actors could easily be seen, and most were not even trying because of the large groups of teens causing issues. We went through this zone 4x in total, and hated it every time. We found the next to last house on our list
Death Row Vengeance: No Escape This is another tried and tested house that has run its course. The scares for me were ruined by the idiot group behind me who kept talking to the scareactors..UGH. We tried to distance ourselves, but were not very successful. Overall nothing new to see, and the scares that were tried, just meh. Gave it a 2 of 5.
By now it was past 8:30, and we only had one house. Moving around was very hard, but we backtracked to the Montu area. We waited in a 10 min line and entered
Deconstruction: The Doctor is Out of Control This was an OK house. Some decent scares, but my best interaction was in the freezer. One of the actors knew I saw him. He pointed at me, I pointed back, and we both laughed. As we rounded a corner, he popped out, scared the pants off me, and proceeded to point and laugh as he did before. Well played! I got scared a few time here and overall an OK house. We gave it a 3 out of 5.
We had now done all of the houses, and it was about 8:45 or so. Normally we would start heading back and redoing houses, but the lines were already getting to 45-60min waits. We walked back over toward the Desert Grill, and went through the Crazed Love scare zone. Decent scare zone, but needed more space. Best part was being followed by a psycho bride who then screamed I HATE MEN at me..LOL. Good fun. We relaxed for a bit, and people watched. We decided to look at the lines, and saw they were now pushing 75min waits. We went over to Sheikra, and that too was now pushing 90min! We decided to go to Club X for a bit, then call it a night. Club X was pretty empty, and thank goodness, kiddie free! We hung out for about 15-20, then called it a night.
As we were leaving, it was about 11p, and there were still people buying tickets and coming in. It was insane.
Overall, I am giving the event a 3 out of 5. This is down from previous years for me. I usually rank this event very high. Something was off, and I am unable to determine it. I also was kinda bummed at the merchandise selection. I like to buy the shirt that has the houses listed on it. They only had mediums left. I prefer my shirts to be XLs. So no shirt for me this year.
Hopefully you enjoyed my ramblings I will be going to HHN on the 27th, so hopefully I get some good scares there!
