How do you feel about death pools? Howie Carr runs a death pool following the death of a celebrity. Callers have an hour to phone in the "next celebrity" who will pass away. If they chose correctly, they win a nice prize; gift certificate to a restaurant, etc. Any thoughts?

I like Howie too, but have not heard him in years. Good to hear he'd still at it. :thumbsup2

It is in bad taste, but I like it and I love Howie.

Tacky and terrible, but I can't stand Howie Carr anyway.

If I was local maybe I would call in and say Howie Carr is the next.

You mean Howie won't be coming down to breakfast? :lmao:

He's an obnoxious writer for a trashy newspaper in Boston and i think he has a radio show too. It's been a long time since I have lived in Boston.

You mean the Boston Herald which actually sells newspapers, as opposed to the Boston Globe? :rotfl2:

Some people at work a few years ago were betting money on which day and hour death would come to a celebrity who was on her death bed. I asked them how they would feel if that was their mother or grandmother!

DHs family do this - they start a new one each time one of the celebrities in the pool dies. The last one was started at my wedding 2 years ago and I guess none of the celebrities they picked died since then, because it's still going. It's the same concept - each person who participates puts in $10 and then when the first celebrity in the pool dies, whoever had that person gets the money. I believe this latest pool has about $200 riding on it.

They are usually organized at family get togethers - not my thing, but his family are strange like that.

Some people where I work belong to one (I don't). The person next to me does and anytime a celeb dies, I ask her if they are on the list! She checked her list for Tom Bosley, no one had him. Someone did win on Barbara Billingsley. The tricky part is there is a 2 week "dead zone" where no one can collect while they refill the pot (I think everyone has to pay $20 per name). So even if someone had Tom Bosley, they would not have won.

I love the death pool, especially when he opens it up and you listen to people pick popcorn::

Not sure the site but you can listen to his national show somewhere.

WRKO's web site.

I can't believe people think it's fun to relish another person's death. We really have no respect for each other anymore, do we?
