Howdy! FW Cabin FAQ Thread!!

It's a standard bunk bed. Which should be the same dimensions as a twin I think. So if you can sleep in a twin, at that size with the extra constraints of the bunk (climbing in and out) then you'd be fine.

I am 5'6. I could do it, but it wouldn't be my first choice. 5'8" honestly would be probably a little uncomfortable.

I would be more concerned about hitting your head getting in and out of the bottom bunk - because the length of the bunk beds was exactly the same as the length of the double bed next to them. If you're on the tall side, I would probably take the upper bunk, as there's more head clearance to sit up in bed.

As far as golf cart vs. non golf cart goes - I was there for 10 days starting right after Easter and did not rent a cart (they were sold out before I made the reservation). I found the buses to be convenient and even that close to a holiday they weren't crowded at all. I used my car to go to some of the parks, but going to MK, I always took the bus to the Settlement, then the boat to MK. Taking the bus was never a problem. Sure, it would be convenient and fun, but I can spend that money on something else. I also took a bike with me since I drove, and I used that to get around the campground if I wasn't heading for a park (although I could have locked it up and gone to a park I figured I'd be too tired to bike back to the cabin at the end of the day :rotfl:).

How long does it take to get from the boat dock to the site where Chip N Dale's sing along is? We will be coming from CR & will have 2 little ones (one in a stroller). I am trying to figure out how much time to give to get there.
Thanks!

We've never been to Fort Wilderness yet are thinking of trying out the cabins in early Feb. Can someone tell me is EVERYTHING "open" that time of year--meaning does Mickey's Backyard BBQ close down or is it open then? movies and ccampfires?
Also, where is it that I want to order a golf cart from and how much should it cost for 8 nights?
Thanks!!!!

Are the cabins with disabled access in one loop and spread throughout FW?

We just got back from FW. We stayed in an accessible cabin #2869. They had a ramp up onto the deck. The bathroom was huge (I've not been in a regular cabin to compare) with an accessible shower.

This cabin was very conveniently located to the busses. In fact, we only rented a golf cart for the days we were visiting MK. On the days we visited other parks, it was a quick walk to the main bus depot.

Do any of the cabins have a queen (or even a king) bed? All the pictures I see are of double beds. Thanks (and please forgive me if this was already asked, I couldn't find it.)

Just to let you know, I have the Fort Wilderness Outdoor Movie Schedule posted at buildabettermousetrip com/activity-outdoormovie php

Thanks so much for posting the link to the movie schedule! :thumbsup2 We're going to be there 1st week of November. Do you know when you might have the November schedule posted?

Taking the boat to MK...I'm wondering, is this a quick walk to the marina, hop on the boat and head to MK or is there more to it than this? We were thinking of doing MK our first night since we'll be arriving late afternoon.

Are you renting a golf cart? Then it's like a 5-10 minute drive to the marina area, then a 30 second walk up the pier to the boat. If you don't have a cart then you can walk to the bus stop, and take ANY Settlement bus, (about a 10 minutes drive), then walk from the bus stop to the marina (about 5 minutes). If you just miss a bus or boat, be prepared to wait for the next one, which in the case of a bus is not too long. For the boat, it's about 20-30 minutes between each one.

This will be our first stay at the cabins, although we have stayed at pretty much every other resort st one time or another. I keep reading a lot of conflicting things about the areas to request a cabin in. Does anyone have a good recommendation? We have 2 boys and would like to be close to as much as possible!

What is the best way to get from where the buses drop you off at the front entrance, to where Hoop-de-do review is located? Does Fort Wilderness have an internal bus system, or do you have to walk?:confused3

I thought I read somewhere that a new resort/hotel or something had been built that was blocking the view of Wishes from the beach at FWR. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? I'd like to know ahead of time if we need to make plans to view it elsewhere.

You will be dropped off at the "Outpost" Bus Stop. From there, you transfer onto another bus going to the "Settlement" - you can use any color, there is Purple, Orange and Yellow - just as long as it goes to "Settlement". The color refers to which road it takes, but they all end up at the same place.

Just made my reservation for the cabins for July 2010 and was wondering how the wheelchair accessible cabins were. There will only be 3 adults and one of those requires an ECV. How about getting on the boats to go to MK? Are the boats big enough to accommodate an ECV?

We are staying for the first time @ FW cabins in May '10. We are excited about the camp fire sing along and the Water Pagent, also the new pool. Convincing my hubby about a golf cart, what are some other fun events/activities to do around the resort.

I'm not sure if Bay Lake Tower blocks the view or not, I'd have to go check.

The accessible cabins are basically the same as the normal ones except they are set up with wider spaces and a larger bathroom with a roll-in shower. The busses and MK boats are all accessible. :thumbsup2

Just subscribing to the thread in case anyone hears about a good deal for Summer 2010 rates. We're planning to go in late June - our first time on-site.

We just booked our first trip to the FW cabins for Feb. Looking forward to it.

Does anyone know if we should make an ADR for breakfast at Trail's End? I'm inclined to think not, but I do see that they take them.

Thanks.

can someone who has been there recently confirm whether or not there are laundry/dryer machines in the cabin. The reservation agent just said there is.

thanks
