Howard Stern-Grrr-Someone get ride of the slimeball on tv.

I wonder how many of you who are anti-Howard have actually listened to one whole show??!!??!! I am not into some of the sexual things he talks about, at that point I usually change the channel for a bit, but he covers many other topics that I find highly entertaining and, gasp, he is even sometimes, informative.
Again..ITA

I have listened to him for about 12 years...when the farting bits, or the cooing over strippers goes on too long, I change...but that is only a small part of the show...his interview with Paul McCartney...fantastic! Steve Wonder...no one but Howard would get away with asking him what he did...and props to Stevie for being candid and a great interview!

If people actually listened to him, they would find out that he is just a "personality" and that he is very different...I think he is an outstanding father, and even he says his kids are not allowed to listen to his show until they are old enough (2 are )

It is an act. I have worked with him a few times and he's very professional. Well, he did make a crack about my "mellons" once, but that was because I was slicing up a mellon at the time.

I'm not a huge fan, but I can take him in small doses. My boyfriend likes him. I got him Sirius for Christmas.

I find it funny that people say they won't give SIrius their money because of Howard and would rather go to XM. XM has Opie and Anthony which is a similar type of show and I find them more offensive than Howard.

all he wants is for them to sit on his lap so he can do his "thing". What a SCUM!
if you actually listened to him..you would know that that RARELY happens...he is an admitted germ-o-phobe and doesn't like to really even shake hands let alone let someone behind the console

He is a great interviewer. I loved how he turned the tables on Bill O'Reilly on the O'Reilly factor. :rotfl:

As for the disrespecting women thing, I do not feel that way at all. Women just agree to do some strange things around him. The fact that he was married for many years, and is now in a long-term relationship with Beth O. says something about how he REALLY feels about women.

I'm not fond of the guy myself. I think he can be demeaning to women - I can't believe some of the stuff he gets girls to do on his show. I wonder if he would let his daughters do that stuff. I think he gives teenage boys the wrong idea about how to treat women. But, a LOT of people like him, so he must be onto something. Also, he sometimes is really funny.

The bottom line is, he has the right to say and do what he wants and I have the right not to listen. I think he's smart and more power to him, for going with Sirius. I will certainly listen to him on Sirius, just to hear what he says, at least at first.

I bought stock in Sirius so I hope his fans will all sign up soon! :rotfl:

Well while flipping the channels on many occasiions, this is what I saw. Stern begging women to take off clothes and come sit on his lap. If he is such an interesting person to listen to and has great topics, then why does he NEED the nude women on his show. :confused3

ITA! The fact that he gets paid big money for what he does makes me sick. He has no respect for women at all! And these women that go on his show, what are they thinking? He could care less about them, all he wants is for them to sit on his lap so he can do his "thing". What a SCUM!

It's the women on his show that may be lacking in respect. Some still respect themselves, and the money they make.

I listened to O&A for a while when they were in NY and they were funny for a while, but some of it was just nasty, so I stopped listening. They are in the same category as Howard when it comes to that stuff!

I always suspected that the disrespecting women stuff is an act because it's just too over the top. I don't think he needs it. He can be funny and interesting without it.

cause his listeners are 90% male...if no one was interested in the stuff, he wouldn't do it..

again..you can't get what his show is by "flipping" him on..especially E!..they are going to use the most sensational footage for ratings...again...men. E! has their own producers..if they wanted "clean" interviews, they would only use that footage...but, they want ratings

I agree. I do not see his appeal. In my opinion he is juvenile and tasteless but I could care less if he is on television or radio. I don't have to watch or listen to him - and I don't.

Here's where I think his critics go wrong: What he presents is juvenile and tasteless -- that doesn't necessarily mean he is.

Some of what Pat Robertson presents is morally reprehensible, but I don't think that makes him --- uh --- bad example. Sorry... I'll just crawl in my hole now.

Just kidding! :rotfl2:

Actually...this is Howard's view...if you don't like him, turn him off...that is what your rights should be...but the FCC thinks they should tell you what you should watch, listen to...they are now looking into how to regulate HBO and SHO...because they have to "protect" your from The Soprano's and Dead Like Me

Did you know that the FCC has such a heavy hand that channels "blur" body parts from tv for fear of being fined..I was watching a woman who was having breast reconstruction after cx, and they were showing the details of surgery, only you couldn't "see" the work because it was blurred...the original show was not blurred

I'm looking forward to hearing Howard on Sirius, until my free Sirius subscription runs out, anyway. :) If he gets too raunchy, I'll switch to a different station. But, most of the time I can tolerate and even enjoy him.

I don't blame him for the girls willing to "demean" themselves. A young woman I work with lost a bunch of weight and is working out 5x a week so she can be "rated" by Howard. She looks fabulous! We all think she's crazy, but I guess this is the motivation she needed.

I've been tuning into the promo spots for his show and they are pretty funny. Yesterday they were replaying a "recap" from the Howard Stern staffers first day at Sirius. It was funny!

Too bad you were just kidding. You were really on to something there.

You see, to me, just by presenting it, he is being juvenile and tasteless. I understand that, apparently, there is a market for that type of thing, but is it a larger market than those who find it immature? I guess it must be, since he's still doing what he does and people are actually paying for it now. To each his own.

To each his own - but in my opinion...he's classless and immature.

I personally don't watch or listen to Howard (and yes, I have tried it) but if I blocked E I would miss out on those True Hollywood Stories...oh wait, those have been very boring and stupid lately (jessica Simpson? Paris Hilton? No thanks).
I have XM (closing in on 6 million subscribers) and when I occasionally listen to their equivalent of Howard, Opie and Anthony, I just switch stations when my kids get in the car. Easy enough. BTW whoever was wishing the new car had Sirius instead of XM, try O & A on channel 202.

Yes and no. In the places he is number one in the market for that time slot and demographic, there are still more people not listening to him than there is people listening. In fact this is usually true for all media programs that are number one. But all that really matters is having the number one (or top five) audience share.

On the other hand, at any given time there are probobly people listening to shock jocks like Howard and Rush than not. The format has really exploded.

I too have my Sirius almost all set and ready. Years ago I watched a New Years Special on Pay per view with Howard on it and was completely turned off. About a year after that I heard his show on the radio and could not turn it off....I love the show. There is the odd time that something is going on and I don't want to hear it....so....I turn it off! It is a shame that people are not allowed to listen to what they choose and yet have differing opinions without it becoming such an upset. Whether you think he is disgusting or not, it should be your choice.

It was my kids that bought me the satellite for Christmas....they were excited about buying it for me and Christmas day someone in our family shamed them for purchasing it for me. We are quite a religious family (yes, we go to church, believe in God, have personal relationships with God) and yet there are some even in our family that would act that way over Stern to another family member. It was quite an awkward moment....hope it doesn't have to happen again. My DH is not a big fan like me, but he will listen when I do and the other day he did make the comment to me that he believes the reason so many hate him is because they have forgotten how to laugh. I believe this might be true, I do turn it off when it becomes to raunchy or when he starts with his views on Christianity, and that is what I choose to do. But, listening to Wendy the Retard or the like is absolutely hilarious. So...........for me......Can't wait for Howard!

Was Mister Rogers "simple and naive" just because the material he presented on his show was?
