How would you tell family member ahead of time they won't fit on Forbidden Journey?

We are going to Orlando in 11 days. My family is not going to US but my Cousin and her family (who are renting a house with us) are going to see the HP world. With reading everything lately about how people are not fitting on the FJ ride, would you tell a family member about it ahead of time if so how? A few members of my cousins family are overweight. They don't do a lot of ahead planning so I'm not sure they would have seen the articles about it. I was kind of thinking of talking to her husband in private and just mention it. I don't want to hurt anyones feelings but I don't want them to be embrassed if they get there and are surprised by the size limitations.

What would you do?

Maybe you show them one of the articles and tell them you heard that you just wanted them to have a heads up.

Just tell her that you read there are size restraints with height and weight and show her some of the articles you have been reading.

I am VERY glad I know about this and would NOT want to be surprised when I was entering the ride.

I agree with the two posts above. The disapointment beforehand, although hard, would be so much better than finding out while you're there and risk being humiliated or having it ruin the trip. At least if they know before they go they can get over it. Personally, I would send them a link to these boards or specifically one of the posts that tracks people who did/did not fit.

I would work it into a conversation about the trip, you know just an additional "guess what I read about one of the new HP rides" I'm sure you can get across the needed info without sounding like "I read about size limits and thought of you" kwim? It's a tough spot to be in but just like the above posters have said I would want a heads up and not be surprised when I tried to get in line.

I agree with the others, maybe while discussing the trip you could say "OMG, I just read that this one ride, FJ, has size/weight limits. How crazy is that??!!"

I too have to figure out how to tell my dad. I, instead (we have 8 weeks), have started 6 week body make over & lots of walking...to prepare for 10 days at WDW & IA & US.......we used to go every 18 months, so my whole family is aware the walking part needs preparation.....so I've been walking with my dad.

I’m now encouraging him to do the diet.....I only want to lose 15lbs.....I think if he lost 30 he'd be ok.......but on these walks.... I do plan to throw in the conversation about "hey, I read that the HP ride have height & weight restrictions" I was going to say size...but that sounds like "tall"....

I'd never want to hurt me dads feelings & he knows he has to lose weight, he's not obese, but definitely overweight.....he wouldn't make the 3 clicks... and he'd be mad & embarrassed with his grandkids there....

Most overwieght people do not realize their size. I would not say anything to anyone, but leave it them to try the seat. I would not chance hurting anyones feelings and run the risk of creating a rift. Let them go and see if they fit in the sample seats. They may be heavy but everyones shape is different. You would look like a ******* if you said something and they fit in the seats. I think the seat should do the talking and you shouldnt say a word. I mean really would you tell them they are too big for 1 airline seat they should purchase two to accommodate their girth...its the same thing.

Just tell them about the boards here, the DISboards.com

Tell them to check out the Universal forum for some info on strategies about the parks... I'm sure they'll come across one of the threads about size limitations... maybe give it a bump after you tell them.

Or even better send them a link in an email.... just hope they don't come across this post lol

I was afraid that I would get pulled out of line and wouldn't fit but I fit just fine. I kept telling my family not to be upset if I was told that I couldn't ride...that certain body shapes (wide shoulders, large chest, extremely tall etc) didn't fit into the seats properly. For days afterwards my husband talked about WWOHP and especially FJ and would tell strangers...men and women... that certain body shapes couldn't ride. I was mortified but nobody seemed to be offended by his statement. Maybe just mention it casually..."You know what I just read about the new Harry Potter ride? The seats are so strange that certain body shapes don't fit. I hope we can ride."
