How would you renovate WL?

Checking into WL a couple weeks ago, the CM mentioned they are soon to start renovating it. He also mentioned that management was actually asking the CMs for suggestions. I can't say I have much to complain about but I did notice some areas are showing signs of age. Let's give them a hand. How would you improve WL?

1. WL has lots of "artifacts" displayed around the resort but very few have placards explaining what the artifacts are. How about putting up such placards?

2. What is up with those bed frames that extend way beyound the corner of the mattress. They're real ankle/shin busters (even for my seven-year-old). How about putting adding a few feet of usable floor space by keeping the bed frame under the bed?

3. How about arranging the rockers around the fire place so more than the front row can see the fire? One would think they are going to show a movie on the mantle the way the rockers are arranged like theater seats.

With all the guests going through the system, to me wear is expected. When staying at Holiday Inn's and HJ's do you have the right to complain or suggest on how to renovate? When a resort upgrades or renovate, everyone complains that rooms are not available. Rooms on property are probably cleaner than most homes. Visit the resort, thank the higher ups you can afford and go to disney and quit the belly aching about trival things!

Gee, the OP was just asking for some input. Personally, I think adding placards is a GREAT idea. And the rearranging of the fireplace rockers...one wonders why they haven't thought of putting the chairs in more of a semi circle?? These are easy suggestions that could make it nicer. Why not. :flower:

The bed frames would be a more major expense....but then who knows, it doesn't hurt to point it out. Even if they weren't planning on refurbishing, I think Disney (any resort mgmt team) values guests' thoughtful input. :goodvibes

The ideal was not to turn this into a complaint thread. And yes, when you stay at Holiday Inn or HoJo or any other hotel, of course you have the right to complain. You're paying for a service (and generally a lot more for it at WDW). Clarions have been the worst hotels I've stayed in lately. Also yes, the dust bunnies under our beds are probably just as bad as the dust bunnies under the WL beds. It's been a while since either of us have moved the beds and vacumed. Of course I'm not paying $200+ a night to stay at my place. The higher ups at the resorts have nothing to do with me being able to afford Disney. Why would I want to thank them for that? We did thank them for the excellent service we were provided (not one but two room upgrades). We didn't have any complaints. Finally, of course rooms are limited during renovations. Would you rather that they never renovate so that the signs of age get worse? Sheeshhh.... Who is doing the belly aching?

I don't think the OP was "putting down" the WL...

I like the idea of taking something that is pretty great to start with, tweaking it...and making it PERFECT!

I am gonna have to think about this one....hmmmmm...maybe free martinis with check in? LOL!

Lightening up the overall decor just a tad, while trying to keep to the theme. Not too big a task, right? ;)

Seriously, what I mean is that I'd like to see less of a "cowboys and indians" look in the rooms, and more of a wilderness look...think pinecones, botanical prints...you know what I mean. And instead of a dark green and maroon color scheme, how about sage green and plum? Again, "nature" type colors, but not quite so "heavy". If the resort has a drawback, it's that there are folks who think it is "dark" for Florida.

Other than that, I think it's a great place. I love the geyser, the pool, the location, the woodsiness aorund it, the walking paths. I always feel like it is a very "serene" resort.

Are you kidding????? I am really starting to HATE posting on these boards because one person or another has a debate about anything that is posted....Why can't this OP have a post about offering suggestions how to improve the WL???? She wasn't complaining about the price or not being able to afford to go there!! Go have some coffee and take your panties out of the ruffle they are in!!!!!!

I love the suggestion of brightening up the room decor! Thae one major thing that has kept me from staying there is the look of the rooms. It just looks so dark and rustic. Not necessarily bad things mind you, the look just doesn't appeal to me.

-I'd also change the bed frames.

-Turn the concierge rooms into suites by refurbishing 2 rooms into one. Each one would have a bedroom and a sitting area.

-Enlarge the Roaring Fork Snacks.

-Enlarge the pool area.

Anyway..... I love the Wilderness Lodge. I think that the swimming pool could be a little larger and it could use a better water slide. My husband says roaring forks should be more like the food court at animal kingdom.

I love this idea. We love the food court at AKL, but prefer to stay at WL! :flower:

Thats the point, the same for the AKL - yes, you are in Florida - but it is a Disney-themed resort - I go to the WL and AKL to feel like I am in the Great Northwest or Africa...if I wanted to feel like I was going to Florida, I'd choose Old Key West!

I love the sounds around the WL outside - many are not native to Florida either!

Totally agree!!

I really love the WL just the way it is. But I think it needs some normal rehab type stuff... new comforters, carpet, paint, etc, just to keep everything fresh. I hear they are making a larger concierge lounge, which should be awesome. :)

I would love to add a day bed! I know the rooms are smaller than some of the other deluxes, but my family of 5 really wants to stay there and we cant afford two rooms!

A pocket door to close off the sink area. It gets a bit noisey in the room with the hairdryer going. ;)

I like the darkness of the rooms at WL, though I've never felt it was a dark as other posters have suggested. I don't really want the rooms brightened up, but I love the idea of trading the cowboys/indians theme for something more woodsy. For the most part, I think a good freshening up is all the lodge needs.

Did anyone notice that they are doing something to the chimneys?
We were there this past Dec and tried to find out what they were doing, but none of the CMs seemd to know (or even notice if you can imagine!!!)

We noticed that the one on the right (when facing the hotel) was smooth. The one on the left looked like they always do. Lots of texture.

I love those chimneys-especially at night when the light hits them.

I hope they are not making them smooth!!!

5 nights at the WL with code = $746.00
Dinner for 3 @ Hoop-Dee-Doo = $150.66
Mickey ears with your name on it = $6.00
Hearing~~ "Hey Mom, did you feel some magic get on you?"
~ DD (5)'s reaction to the mist from Fantasmic = PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!

Thank you SUBEAT for putting that in your sig...that is one of the cutest things I have ever heard!!!!!!

I agree with kwdietrich about Roaring Forks! So true...Mara (at AKL) is awesome, yet overall we prefer WL.

I JUST thought of the one complaint I have with the WL ...if you can even consider it a complaint:

I love dining at Artist's Point but I kind of wish they would DARKEN that room a little bit. Funny, cuz I notice a lot of posters would like to see the WL lighten up a bit color wise. I just find the high white ceiling at AP makes it seem too bright. Plus, i wish they would add booths. There is just something about the ambiance at that restaurant that doesn't seem on par with the prices. The food is incredible, but I am one of those folks who likes a romantic, upscale mood to go along with the upscale prices.

Ooo, could you add a fireplace to the Territory Lounge while you are at it???? :rotfl:
