SPOILER ALERT!!!
1. What kind of battle scene was that at Malfoy Manor? In the book it was breathtaking. In the film it was kind of like wand, wand, wand, big swirl aaaannnnd... we're done. The reason Half-Blood Prince was so disappointing was - in-part - to the anemic battle scene at the end. This director flubbed it again. I'm afraid to see the final battle in Part 2.
2. He eliminated things that didn't need to be taken out. For instance...
When Harry buries Dobby, It would have been easy to include a shot of Dobby's grave marker (Here Lies Dobby, a Free Elf) and a shot of Griphook watching Harry dig the grave. These are important to the story (especially Griphook), and wouldn't have added any more time since instead we got a 5 second shot of Harry sitting in the grass looking sad.
And... When Ron returns to the woods, he claims Dumbledore gave him the lighter (whatever it's called) because he knew Ron would leave. In the book Harry responds, "No, he knew you'd come back.", in the film Harry says something forgettable. Why???
OH! Why no shot of Dudley shaking Ron's hand? We saw Harry standing in the driveway for long enough...
Don't misunderstand, I don't have problem with all omissions. Kreacher's tale was left out, as was Dumbledore's backstory. Easily eliminated and saved a lot of time, I'm cool with that. But these kinds of changes (above) really got under my skin.
What did it do right? Loved the story of the three brothers, Bathilda Bagshot was creeeepy, Hermione being tortured was horrifying. I really liked the scene with Ron and the Locket/Horcrux. Acting was very good. I didn't even mind the new scene with Harry and Hermione dancing (although it confused people who are only casual fans).
Thanks! Needed to get that off my chest...
