How would you handle this?

Boy, I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. I probably would have figured that they would have finished the work quickly..who would have thought that they'd work the entire time you occupied your site ? Their response was less than satisfactory. At the very least they could have apologized...I would try to contact someone in authority. Even if they don't do anything..at least you know you contacted them, if only for your own satisfaction. Thanks for sharing your experience . If any future campers encounter this situation, we will know to address it immediately.
Regarding the roaches...there was a HUGE one on the monorail one evening. You could not believe the kaos. My family and I were in the last car...and we saw it across from us..moving in the window edging...and then up on the wall over the bench to the other side of the car. The lights in the car went out once the monorail started moving. Screams:scared1: ....and Stomping...and more screams:scared1: and more stomping..and children crying! Screams.. "Is it dead?".."No it's still crusin!'"....someone trying to comfort their child telling them it was from a Timon and Pumba attraction! Never saw anything like it..and I have no desire to ride the monorail anytime soon. I'm just sorry to hear they are on the busses also. I can see one..but a whole mess of them....you're right ..that IS gross.

:rotfl2: I'm really sorry but I just got this image in my head of kids screaming and the parents singing "a kuma ma a ta da" (sp?) :rotfl2:

I know it's really gross but I just got a very funny image in my head

but if I would of seen that roach, I would of jumped out of the monorail :scared1:

We laugh about it now..but we were just happy the thing took off in the opposite direction of where we were sitting. All the while thinking what else is there around us? :rolleyes1 I think the fact that it was dark made it worse. No one had clear idea of where it was until it was on them.:scared1: Some one said it was like riding a new attraction...scarrier that being in Space Mountain. Sort of gave the expression "Roach Coach" a whole new meaning.:rotfl2:

You gotta figure with all the food and baby formula and stuff people bring on the transportation that this will happen. Maybe WDW needs to exterminate them every once in a while.

Shouldn't laugh at your story of the monorail. We saw one you could saddle up walking around Fantasmic. The one saving grace to the bus incident was that when my mother told the bus driver as she got off, he looked genuinely upset by it. I said that at least he wasn't expecting it. So I don 't think this is the norm.

I would suggest not going on the Bug's Life ride at Animal Kingdom...lol :P

They were really defensive and rather snotty. The manager said, "Well, what is it you want?" ( I guess a fair question...just the tone made me uncomfortable) Thoughts?

I have found that when a Manager asks "Well, what is it you want?" , they are sincere with the question. It's usually a question you aren't expecting, so, it might be easily taken the wrong way. In a few instances I have been asked this question and I took it the same way you might have. In EVERY case, however, they have given me, "What I want".

Well, when asked "what is it that you want?" I would have answered "I am paying for a preferred site and did not get it. How about only charging me for a partial to start? Or possibly credit for a future vacation for the same number of nights at no charge to make up for it." I am surprised he did not automatically offer to comp you. You would also think that someone managing a CG might understand the difficulty in "moving". Even those in mohos still have disconnect and pack and close everything. Tenters would have it worse. I have never had a bad experience at the fort. Knocking on wood here.

Oh we've been there..and personally I love it..although the rest of family doesn't care for being poked in the back! I got a kick out of it though.

The entire monorail scenario was right out of a comedy...You couldn't make this stuff up. I think if it weren't for the fact that we were in the air..someone would have tried to jump off. We laugh every time we think of it..of course we weren't laughing when it happened. We were just praying the "state bird" didn't crawl back over our way! Worst part of it was that we left MK...and had to take it all the way around through the Contemporary and through the ticket center back to the Poly..which was where we were parked..since we had visited Kona Kafe earlier in the day.
You folks in Florida sure "grow em BIG" :scared1: down your way.
To add insult to injury...when we flew back home we landed at JFK..and were retrieving our luggage at the Jet Blue baggage carousel...and I saw this mom and her kids start jumping around and quickly moving their bags from the floor. Apparently there was a nest of cockroaches crawling all around the carousel.:scared1: Talk about nasty:rolleyes1
There sure were alot of them..but not nearly as big as the one in Florida. These critters apparently do quite a bit of traveling. Planes..trains..and bus!:rotfl:

Yea, Palmetto bug specifically have a tendency to really freak people out, kind of used to them now myself although haven't seen one in a while. Used to see a lot more when I was a kid.

Well, I know what you mean. But, I don't think it was sincere in this case. When I answered, I told her that I would just like to be able to have dinner with my family at my campsite without all of the dust, noise, heat etc. Her answer was to quote "Well, there are lots of areas that you could go eat in Fort Wilderness". I wasn't in the mood to argue and said that I was just disappointed as this wasn't what I was used to or expecting. She said, "Well I don't want you to be disappointed.....Is there anything else I can help you with?" (hello. You haven't helped me yet). Anyway, what is spot on is that I should have refused that site to begin with. So, campers, take heed. LOL

You can also email them from the disneyworld.com site. There is a link at the bottom of the page that says Contact Us. Someone should read it and get back to you.

I would suggest that for the person who was there during the race especially, because it's more than a campground issue.

Hey, you guys know those Palmetto Bugs can FLY don't you? We found that out the hard way the first night we lived in Florida.

Shhhhhh, don't give away all our Florida secrets!!!! :lmao:

There is nothing better than getting an out-of-towner to freak out at the sight of a lightly colored cockroach. But when they FLY, man, that is our secret!! That is when we get to see all kind of crazy antics ensue!!

lol ;)

We just got back from camping at the Fort - TENT camping - my biggest complaint was the loud, roaming PACK of KIDS at 11:30 at NIGHT!!! What the heck!? A 6 year old roaming around howling like a coyote!? Where are the parents?? We went to the front desk in the morning to complain and ask what time "quiet time" started and we were told there was no real "quiet time" and next time it happened we needed to walk to the phone at the bath house and call security. I guess folks don't realize there is only a thin layer of nylon between those trying to sleep and those wanting to stay up till the wee hours of the morning...

A lot of people here will say they have no problem with the noise at the fort but most say the same thing "the AC drowns out the noise". I think a lot of them don't realize that most of us tent campers don't use AC in our tents.:rolleyes1 It took me a couple of days to get used to the noise. I do believe the CM is incorrect by saying there's no real quiet time. I'm reading the Gazette right now and it states exactly:
* Quiet Hours: Please avoid unnecessary noise from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m.

The AC units hanging out of the tents cracks me up!!! Why camp?!

The bus noise, the light parade music, and the fireworks - that comes with the territory. What gets me are the people that lack camping etiquette... That and knowing there are quiet hours but being told that there are no real quiet hours... Guess I need to invest in a few good pairs of ear plugs for me and my family!
