How would you feel if Disney created a subway system?

It's a simple question. And I think it would be great to have a subway system. Why do people have to people always have to take a simple question and make it difficult. "the water table is to high", "let's expand the monorail system". Yes the water table is too high, and it would be better to expand the monorail system, BUT the question is how do you feel about a subway system.
And again Yes it would be great to have one.
Thank you.

This is a discussion board. We are discussing the issue. :cool1: Whenever we want to buy something, discussing the feasibility/practicality, and counting the costs is part of deciding how much we want something.

What if throughout the WDW Resort there was a underground transportation system that provided access to every hotel, theme parks and DTD attraction? Imagine being able to get to your destination quickly and at anytime of day without having to stand in the heat waiting for a bus or ferry boat?

I always thought Disney should create a system for Premier Guest or VIP that allows them to beat the crowds during early morning Peak Season. SO...imagine being able to be dropped off INSIDE the park as opposed to outside?

For those like myself who have experience with Subway's...I would LOVE to see an idea like this come to life. May be wishful thinking but I think this would be awesome.

I don't think so. It might have to be a submarine......:rotfl:

If they're going to sink that kind of $$ into something at Disney, I'd rather it be more attractions in the park.

Give DHS and AK some more rides! Add another TS to AK. Add a decent CS to DHS.

The ratio of hotel rooms to attractions gets more and more out of whack. Right now, the bus system works okay to get me where I want to go. What doesn't work so well is running out of TSM fastpasses at 10 a.m. even during "slow" periods because it's only one of TWO family-friendly rides (no height restriction) at DHS.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Disney transportation works just fine. For those used to subways or other constant-loop mass transit I'm sure buses seem inefficient but really the system as a whole does a remarkably good job of moving many, many people with minimal problems. I prefer Disney put their park-improvement dollars into expanding attraction and dining capacity, neither of which have come anywhere close to keeping pace with expansion in resort capacity over the last decade and a half.

as noted, there is a reason why there aren't subway systems in Florida.

The transportation does work...it's just that it requires time, and many guests don't want to deal with anything that takes time away from their fun.

Because its a simple question about a very very complex issue. Involving Billions of dollars and many technical issues.

It would like me asking how people would feel about Disney providing personal jet packs at all the locations to cut down on travel time.

YES :thumbsup2

Maybe an above ground subway, aka elevated train, or an "El" as they call it in chicago. A train type system. Problem is, roads are existing and they'd have to build the rail lines. That would have been a great way to go in the beginning. I don't think it would be much different than taking busses, really. If the busses wanted to drop you inside the park, though could.

But here's another vote for a high speed to/from the airport. Not dealing with that road traffic would be nice, eh?

In case you didn't know. Already proposed, I think a little bit of planning and cancelled.

I can't even imagine that...what is it about 24 miles from the Airport to WDW? That's a pretty big chunk of change. I would prefer something new/old like updated people movers. Monorails? Been there...done that!
Okay, I have no problem with a people mover that looks like a monorail. :goodvibes

The distance between the airport and WDW is not an issue, IMO. It's been done before and works quite well. The MARTA transit rail goes all the way to Dunwoody, GA which is at least 20 miles from the airport. :)

It was so nice, there was no need to step outside the airport. Now I think they've expanded the rail even further as far as Cherokee County which is about 40 - 50 miles from the airport -- so the main issue is cost.

Wasn't that the plan for the high speed rail that got killed?
I have no idea but wouldn't it be great if "the powers that be" were to at least revisit the topic and once again explore all of the possibilities for making a mass transit rail for WDW a reality? Anyway, I'm sure it got 'killed' because of funding. :(

And to answer the question, I would feel overwhelmingly happy if Disney created a subway that provided transit for the entire resort. :wizard:

MARTA, IIRC, was built in mid 80s - mid 90s. Construction costs were lower then. Figure that 40 - 50 miles would be required for all of WDW. Recent cost for Jacksonville monorail were $81 million per mile. Figure at the LOW end, in Orlando $100 million per mile. A low ball estimate would be $5 billion - probably more realistic at $10 billion and up. Disney would never make that kind of investment. Especially since approving and building it could take decades.

Here is some information on that High Speed Rail that some of you are not that informed about that was "killed". It was NOT for the Airport to Disney only, it was not being paid for by Disney ... it was more for the State of Florida.. and yes, we the residents of Florida would have been paying in the long run for this, but we would have been benefiting from it too... I do think our Governor made the wrong call in killing this project.. it would have also provided many much needed jobs for our State too!

THANK YOU h2odivers!

I swear, you ask a simple question and everyone suddenly becomes a scientist, lawyer, financial expert, or engineer. SMH.

But the people on this board are scientists, lawyers, financial experts, and/or engineers. Or multiple categories.

For example when in the Army I was a radar and fire control systems mechanic, I am a retired CPA, and I have a currently valid pilot's license.

A subway system lmao!!! Are you gonna make all the cars connected submarines???

Evren if they had one I wouldn't want to use it, one of the best parts of WDW is seeing all the grounds. I actually like to look at the window of the busses and see the park approaching. It's like a build up for the day.

We also have seen a great amount of wildlife outside the windows of busses in Sept/Oct everytime we headed back to MK after dinner we saw deer grazing in the grass right past the TTC. Just Sunday comind down the road in front of Ft Wilderness we saw about 30 wild turkeys hanging out in a clearing in the woods. While we do have those things here at home I know alot of people don't and I think it's neat to see.

I would love more monorails! There should be one for each park from the TTC. Maybe they could modify the one for Epcot to stop at DHS too. Then they would need a separate one for AK.

We could call it a Monorail System.....:lmao:

The utliidors were so expen$ive to build under the Magic Kingdom that they opted not to build them in other areas. So I really can't see them building a subway system.

Another vote for improving/expanding the monorail.

I don't think the issue was cost. The 7 seas lagoon is man made. Disney used the dirt to "build up" the MK. Ground level utilidors was on result of that design. Trucking in dirt to do the same thing with EPCOT didn't make sense. The back area behind the WS provides some of the same function as the utilidoors in the MK.

I doubt the train would have ever attracted enough passengers to pay for it. Orlando to Tampa? You have to get to an Orlando station. You then have to get from the Tampa station to your destination. Probably quicker to drive.

THANK YOU h2odivers!

I swear, you ask a simple question and everyone suddenly becomes a scientist, lawyer, financial expert, or engineer. SMH.

Buildings in Florida rarely have basements. Water table is too high. To answer your question I'd think Disney would be incredibly stupid to even think of spending the $$$$$$$$$$$ it would cost to build underground rail.

Light rail. Grade level for most of the track, elevated where necessary to avoid crossings would be a different discussion. Probably not worth what it would cost but a discussion which has pros and cons.

Is this a "fantasy" question? Where facts don't matter? Then I'd prefer a transporter system which will immediately teleport me from any location on WDW property to any other location at the speed of light. Much greater chance of seeing that system then an underground subway.
