how would my points be affected in this scenario?

Hi all,

What if I plan a trip with several other people and then one of them cancels in the 30 day period. If I don't cancel the trip, but change it for smaller accomodations, are the remaining points that I would save still going to go to reservation status or whatever that's called? Or is that just for a cancellation?

Thanks!

First, just to let you know, depending on the time of year, you might not be able to "down size", there might not be any units in a smaller size...
Second, if you could "down size", I believe any points would go into a "holding account" where you couldn't use them to book more than 60 days in advance, or something like that.
I'm sure someone will be along shortly with all the details, hope this helps for now. :wave2:

If you make the change to smaller accomodations 30 days or less from arrival, the points that were returned to your account would go into the holding account. Those points will expire at the end of your use year and cannot be banked or borrowed. They may only be used to make a reservation 60 days or less ahead of the planned arrival date.

Reservation points are those that are used to make a reservation at a non-DVC resort. If you cancel a non-DVC resort reservation, the points are returned to your account, but they cannot then be used later to make a reservation at a DVC resort.

Best wishes -

Thanks Carol...I knew it was something like that..
BTY..I edited my post from 30 to 60 to make it look like I was right all along :cool1:

In DVC's view, you are cancelling. It just so happens that you are making another reservation for a different accomodation in the same phone call.

And it counts from the first day of the reservation for ALL of the points. You can make multiple reservations if you think there might be a problem, them combine them later. You can also reserve a studio plus a 1 BR instead of a 2 BR for the same reason but you can't be guaranteed they'll be together when you arrive.
