How was All-Star Sports

Hello everyone, :wave2:
We are going to WDW the first part of October. We wanted to stay at the All-Star Movies but because of the season discounts that run through I do believe the 4th of Octboer the All-Star Movies is not part of the discount so we had a choice between All-Star Music or All-Star Sports. He choose the All-Star Sports because how the area was set up i.e. the buildings were set up. Now to get to my guestion. How was all-star sports? I just want some input. Thanks for answering my long drawn out question. I think it will be magical either way. I just really enjoyed the All-star movies!!

We stayed there for the first time this past March and had a great time. We were in the Surf's Up Building, right off the pool. We paid for the preferred room, but I wouldn't do that again for 2 reasons...one, we have very small children and were all in bed relatively early and took advantage of early EMH. The pool is open until midnight, and it was VERY LOUD!! I even had a sound machine with us because our DD2 is used to sleeping with white noise, and it couldn't even dull the noise from the pool. And two, nothing was really that far from the pool or the food court that it was worth the extra $$ for the preferred room.

The food court was very good and never too crowded. The main pool was fun, but sometimes difficult to find chairs. The area around the pool did get a bit messy with wet towels left all over the place...and sometimes it wasn't cleaned up by morning. But that was very minor.

All in all, we loved it and would definitely go back.

Have a great time!!

If you liked All-Star Movies, then you should like sports as well. They are VERY similar.

We just returned from 8 nights at All Star Sports. It was our first stay in a budget. We have stayed in everything from deluxe to moderates in the past. We found AS Sports to be fine. The room was smaller than moderates, but adequate. It was a bit more hectic than the moderates, particularly CSR, but OK. We did not encounter any unruly teens or anyone else for that matter.

Don't pay extra for the preferred rooms in Surf's up, unless you want to face the main pool. There were still people in the pool at 1AM. We were in Touchdown and it was just as close to Stadium Hall as Surf's up, without the noise from the pool.

My only beef is the people who smoke on the balconies of the nonsmoking buildings. They book rooms in nonsmoking buildings so they don't have to put up with slobs like themselves.

We just got back from a stay in 2 different rooms at All Star Sports. Over the weekend of June 10,11, 12 we stayed in BLd 6 Surf's up. We had a room close to the parking lot, so our room was VERY quiet. It was just a short walk to the food court or pool. Then we checked out and came back June 15-19. This time we were in BLDG 2 Hoops. Again we were near the parking lot, so the room was very quiet. My only complaint was trying to dodge balls. When we went for walks at night, there were both adults and children throwing balls. In the hoops area, they were trying to throw their balls into the huge basketball hoops. In the football area, they were throwing balls in the "court yard". In the main pool, I got hit by water balls. It was very hard to find a spot where someone wasn't throwing a ball in the pool. We did not have this when we stayed at the other All Star resorts. (We just stayed at All Star Movies in May and stayed at All Star Music last Sept.)

We were on the 3rd floor and we did have people smoking outside the rooms on the 3rd floor. This wasn't good for us since my son has severe asthma and we were in a non-smoking room.

There was a family reunion and some school groups occupying baseball and football blds while we were there. It was not unusually loud and the groups were very well behaved. The food court was never overly crowded and the food was great! The turkey dinner was our favorite.

We've stayed at Sports twice now, and it is our favorite of the Value Resorts. We were a bit concerned last time when our room was assigned to Center Court (previously we had been in Touchdown, which is right next to the foodcourt)...thinking we'd have long walks. But honestly, it was not bad at all!

One of the perks of staying at Sports is the bus. Sometimes, a bus will stop at all 3 All-Star resorts, and the majority of the time, Sports is the first picked-up and dropped-off. I'm sure you'll have a great time!

We have stayed there 3 times so far!!! Mainly because of DS (6). He's our sports freak!!! We have always enjoyed it. We always try to get football!!! It's not that far from the food court but it IS far enough from the pool that you don't have all the noise!!!

Never had a problem with anything while we were there!!!

I've had no problems with Sports. Before POP was built, this is where we stayed. We had about four different stays at Sports. We have been in the tennis building, basketball building, surf's up and touchdown sections.

My kids loved it. They still talk about the X and O field, throwing frisbees in the courtyard and running around in the goofy baseball pool. This was our first onsite visit and they had a blast.

Yes, it is the first value, so it's not as new. But we never had problems in all our stays. The bus stops first at Sports so that is in your favor. We never had any problems with the food court, and we even went to the Mc Donalds across the street a few times.

We liked it and would go back. Pop is newer though and closer to what we want.

daisy2:

Are you sure about no availability at All Star Movies? Just yesterday, on Disney's website, I was able to get a quote for October 1 through October 5th at All Star Movies under the free dining plan. Have you tried? I didn't book it because I'm not sure I want to go alone with just my 6 year old DS; DH won't even consider going :confused3 .

We were there 2 years ago and loved it. It was in July, so there were a lot of people, but it did not seem chaotic at all. The food court was fine and the pools did not seem busy. We were on the first floor of the football area and it was quiet. I am a light sleeper, and did not hear any noise at night (maybe because I was exhausted???)

Your at Disney!!! You'll have fun!

I also like ASSp, but I also like the sports theme. I did not like All Star Movies at all ... it is too spread out and I don't like the music theme.

The best part about ASSp is that the bus picks up and drops off there first. You almost always have a seat to the parks and if you don't on the way home you are off the bus first. Plus, many times in the morning the bus will go directly to the park from the resort without stopping at ASMu or ASMo ao the trips are quite quick both ways.

Was Pop Century available for your time? I like it better, but if not I would be happy with ASSp.

Well we were told that the off season discount does not count for the All-Star movies only for all-star music and all star-sports. So we had a choice for either one but we choose the all-star sports because it's more convenient because we are closer to the parking lot and closer to the buses.

I stayed at the All Star Sport Resort for the second time last week. This time it was the first time I traveled with a 6 year old boy. We found that paying for the preferred room was worth it. Saving some walking time for a six year old at Disney can make the difference between having a magical time or a hellish time with a tired and cranky kid. I also found that the fact that the bus first stop at the SPORTS before the other hotels was worth it. My kid always got a sit and always slept a quick nap on the bus. The grandma also appreciated the short walks and being able to sit down on the buses. About the noise, i have to agree that sometimes its very noisy if you are very near the pool, but once we close the door it was not so terrible that we could not sleep. I will be going in January 2006 to run the marathon and I am trying to explore new places now so i think we may try the POP, but if that does not work I am going for the Sports for sure. Hope this helps.
