How to you personalize your rental wheelchair?

I'll be taking an insurance co. rental chair on my upcoming trip and cruise. I'm trying to come up with ideas for personalizing it with the hope that no one will "borrow" it while I'm in an attraction or at a restaurant. I don't need it 100% of the time, just for longer distances so it will be parked occasionally.

Any ideas? Thanks!

What you can do is take an ordinary padlock or a lock with a small cable and lock a wheel to the frame or just put the padlock over a tire. This will allow the chair to be moved by a CM if needed, but will make it unrideable.

Do not lock it to anything solid (such as a fence, tree, or signpost) or you will more than likely find the lock cut.

I made a cover for the back of my WC. A yard of 45 inch width mateial will probably work for this unless the WC is very wide. Measure the width of the back...you want the material to be twice that + 1 inch. (ex. the width is 22 inches...material is 45 inches) Then measure the length of the back and add 2 inches. (ex. the length is 22 inches.....material is 24 inches) Cut the material and sew the width together-1/2 inch from the end of your material--or use iron on hem tape to fuse it (think pillow case) Then make a hem by turning the material up 1/2 inch and ironing....then turn up another 1/2 inch and iron that...sew or use iron on hem tape to fuse the hem. For the top, you will only sew (or fuse) the middle--you want to leave about 3 inches on each side for the handles (or use velcro in the middle to close the top)

It sounds harder than it is. I used a floral material, but you could use a Disney print of your favorite characters if you want -- or something lime green!

WOW!!! So funny you mentioned this. I was about to post almost the same question. We just got my DSis a power chair and I want to suprise her and decorate it for our trip to the world. I did just find a fairy sticker, glitter kit on the Disney store site (not sure if this is something that may help you or not) but it was fairly cheap (under $10 ) and came with what looked like a lot of stuff.I was thinking a Disney or Bust sign(LOL)J.K. but I am very excited to see what other advice people send you to decorate your chair. Enjoy your trip!!

Hello, I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I have to ask something. I'm going in December with my elderly parents. My mom is having a knee replacement next week. We were thinking of renting a wheelchair or scooter and they could actually share it. Is it common that people would "borrow" your wheelchair? If it's stolen, would we be responsible for the cost?
Thanks,
Patty

I haven't heard of any problems with chairs being stolen, but if it concerns you, you may want to consider getting insurance. Most rental companies offer it for a minimal amount. I got it when I rented an ECV for the first time last year and it was worth it for the peace of mind. I was stressing about maybe doing something wrong and scratching it up or damaging it and getting hit with a big fee. As it turns out, I had absolutely no problems and it handled easily, but having the insurance helped me relax and stop worrying.
