How to upgrade ticket to Annual Pass ?

We are going to Disney the first week of October. We purchased 8 day passes (3 adults, 1 child) with hopping and plus options, but they do expire. If we wanted to upgrade to annual passes, do we have to do it before using the passes to get the full value of what I paid for the tickets ?

Or, if we just wanted to add a few days to our passes, I know I'd have to add no expiration. Does anyone know what that costs and the most # of days you can upgrade to ? Thanks !!

bumpity bump...I'd like to know if its possible to upgrade a 10 day magic your way to annual pass, too...and if they have to be unused before upgrading....

I don't know about the regular tickets but I know with the Florida Resident tickets 3 day Magic Your Way ticket the $ amount you spent on the ticket is able to be applied to an annual or seasonal pass. You may want to contact guest services to find out.

Everything I've read suggests that 10 days is the max on the MYW tickets. If you decide to add no expiration, I'd upgrade to the 10 days. No expiration costs $106.50 for 8 days, 9 days, or 10 days (since its only $6.39 to add 2 more days to an 8 day ticket why not do it?) Considering that you get 5 pluses that would be 15 days. Probably 2 or 3 week long trips.

$413.22 for each adult. $369.58 for the child. for a 10 day park hopping no expiration with pluses.

A regular AP (this is only for the 4 theme park does not include water parks or Disney Quest) $395.00 w/o tax for adults and $336.00 w/o tax for children.
If you wanted the "pluses" you need an Premium AP and its $515 w/o tax for adults and $438.00 w/o tax for kids.
Disney tax rate is 6.5%

Yes. You must either add days and options, or purchase an annual pass before the ticket expires. Not only to get full value, but to be able to do it at ALL (if you don't have the non-expiration option - if you HAVE the non-expiration, you can get a pro-rated credit)

Also, if you do make the leap to an annual pass, your pass will be backdated to the date you first used your Magic Your Way ticket.

If you are planning on changing your tickets, I would do it before you use them. We upgraded to AP's on our last trip and the CM said it could only be done if they were unused. Our's were the old parkhoppers, not the new MYW tickets, but we were glad we didn't use them before trying to upgrade. Not sure what the rules are for the new tickets, but I would get some official rules before using them.

So, no - your AP would be active the day you upgrade if your admission is unused.

When you or I say upgrade, it means something different than when a cast member says it.

Upgrading is applying STRICTLY unused admission, or admission where the first use was within the last 7 days, to a new ticket. You and I tend to think of upgrading as just getting a better ticket. But a cast member thinks of upgrading as applying the FULL VALUE of a ticket towards a new ticket.

If your admission is partially used, and it's been more than 7 days (I think it may be 14 days now), you absolutely cannot upgrade. But you CAN receive a pro-rated dollar credit for your partially used admission to apply toward a new piece of admission - as long as you had the non-expiration option.

So the cast member SHOULD have said: "You can't upgrade seven days or more after the first use of the ticket."

It depends on what your old ticket is. If it's a MYW ticket, you have the 14 day window. If it is one of the pre-2005 PH/PHP's, you have but 7 days. Disney never changes the financial rules on previously sold tickets. That's why you will never get more money in return if you upgrade or apply the dollar value in future years than what you paid for the ticket when you bought it, no matter how many ticket price increases there have been in the meantime. What was in effect for price and upgrade rules when you bought the ticket will still be in effect now.
