I put a question on the dining tipping thread, but (1) am looking for ideas other than tipping because I don't think it's permitted and (2) think I'll actually get a response here. ::yes::
So how do you say a special thank-you to a chef has gone above and beyond in providing a special allergy meal?

The best thanks you can give is to write an email or fill out a card in person at GR.

wdw.guest.communications@Disneyworld.com

That kind of stuff goes into their employee record and really looks good for them.

As someone who works in the industry I would do what the pp said or ask the sever to have the chef come back out to the table. And tell the chef thanks and how great the meal was you don't know how great they makes them feel. Or even ask to speak to the food and beverage manager most places their the chefs bosses again not sure about Disney and let them know how great the chef was. Because if you you write Disney and you should if you feel like it they will share the email the chef and the managers of the restaurant. The chefs can't except any money as tips or gifts they could except if was on a note card a thank you card but Disney only allows tipped positions to except tips. when I tell the chefs about great feed back rom guest I make it a point even if it it just in passing it makes their day I don't work for Disney but I am sure the servers would be more then happy to relay a thank message to the chef.

based on the small nonDisney park I work at, I would do both ask to thank chef in person while still at site plus fill a card at GS as that goes in the file of the employee and is seen by their boss

1) Non-tipped positions can accept gifts up to $75 in value - BUT NO CASH.
2) I take gifts all the time without penalty.

The thanks and the email to WDW is my plan.
I am curious to know, however, what type of gifts might be appreciated? I was thinking of, not just chefs, but of other non-tipped positions that are working over the holidays... Thanks for the ideas.

Really Disney says that if you don't work in a tip position your not allowed to accept money or gifts. Or at least all other cms that follow Disney policy I sorry I don't and I know if the president of wdw knew what was going on. Except a gift of 75 is basically a tip in Disney eyes. I know everyone on here won't agree and say I wrong because it me.

But are you saying a guest can give you a gift card or dose it have to be let say something they bought in the park. I just don't see a non tipped position with Disney being so tough about where you have to say no three times and if you do take it your supposed to give it you your manager.

I know you work in a resort the wildneress lodge but never heard of any cm taking gifts as long as their no more then 75. Unless Disney changed policy then how come the bus drivers don't need help carrying their gifts of their bus.

One last thing I could be wrong which is fine but a chef is a manager they shouldn't be excepting gifts or tips.

I've written letters to WDW many times to compliment the chefs who went above and beyond to make safe food for DD.

I keep in touch with one of the chefs who we met years ago. He received a special commendation and a pin from WDW after they received one of my letters, which he showed to me the next time we were on vacation.

If you have children, you might have them draw a picture, or write a thank you note and drop it off at the restaurant on another day. I loved getting personal thanks (not a chef, but service worker) especially from the kids.

For that matter, a handwritten note from an adult would be a treasure "now a days" (yes, I'm old).
