Some of my pressed pennies are a bit dull, actually some of them also got wet when my son took them in the bathtub. What can you use to shine them up??

My daughter's preschool class cleaned really old dark pennies and I was amazed how well they came out! What they did was put the pennies in a little dish, covered them with table salt and then poured vinegar on them to cover. They let them sit a while and then rinsed and wiped them and they looked great. Some need more time then others in the solution and you can use your finger to rub the salt a bit to take off tough spots.

Here in the south we have a hot sauce called Texas Pete. (Not sure if it is available nationwide) Tabasco Sauce would probably work as well. Put some of this sauce on a penny and watch it shine like new! It is probably the vinegar doing the trick.

Hi

Try soaking them in Coca Cola for a while, that seems to clean them up, if they are really bad try overnight.

:p

ah so there is a reason for coke after all!LOL I used the slat and vinegar trick it also works beautifully on the bottems of a copper pot! also vinegar and baking soda works too!

When my son was a little boy (so long ago) he used catsup to shine pennies. It worked, too. :)

I use just vinegar. I place the pennies in vinegar in a shallow bowl - let sit for 5 minutes
and wash them off.

What does the salt (NaCL) do ? I thought salt was neutral (Ph of 7).

Vinegar is an acid.

If salt is just an abrasive- you could use sand too !

;)
