I have one of my mother's(deceased) cookbooks. It needs 'rebinding'(?). I know there is some type of machine/device I can buy to rebind it. Maybe get it on ebay. I know they are available at stores like Staples but they are $$$ and big and really for business use(binding presentations, etc.)
Any other ideas? What is this device called:confused3

Do you mean a "binditall"? It spiral binds things - you can get it from hobby shops I think (some of the scrappers have them - I think rlovew possibly, or Susiestone has one). Sometimes print stores will bind stuff for you if you just have one book to rescue and don't want to buy a whole kit.

Is it bound with metal or plastic? The plastic is comb binding. You may be able to have them redo it at staples. I have one at work (the binding machines aren't cheap ~ especially if you only want it for one thing) but I have replaced broken 'combs' by hand. If that's what you have and can post a pic so I can see the size ~ I may have a new comb I can send you and you can do it yourself by hand.

You might biring or send it into a book restoration place & have them do it.

I was also going to suggest Staples, Office Max or Kinkos if it is a spiral bound.

If it is a hard bound, call them they may still be able to do this type of binding or may know where to send it out (especially Kinkos). If not, call a used book store or antique book store. There may also be a book restorer section in the phone book.

Thanks for all ideas. There is a Staples right down the street, I will check with them. It is plastic binding.
