How to Request Room Location? (PBH)

May be simplistic but... I recall for our Disney vacation years back in order to request a specific room area/requirement there was a very detailed procedure where you'd FAX to a special # exactly 2 weeks before arrival etc.. to make your request. (Clicking glass slippers together 3 times simulataneoulsy, etc...)

Is there some similar procedure for Portofino Bay @ Universal? Or is it as simple as calling the hotel reservation desk and politing requesting a week or 2 out?
