How to make name with character animation?

Hi all!
I noticed many of you have adorable characters in your signatures spelling out your names. My search isn't working properly so I apologize if this has been asked a million times! How do you create those characters with your names? Is it a program or can I do it on the web for free?

It is an animation program (not a web program) and a friend created them for us. I don't know the name of the program that was used but maybe someone else will.

Becky posted the info you were looking for in another thread. Hope this helps you.

They were made with Ulead GIF animator. It is available free to download here , but that is only for a trial. I think it is a 30 day trial.

I hope this helps. I have played with this software but I did not make my signature. There are other programs out there that you can make them with as well

You can also use Photoshop Elements to create an animated GIF. Don't get too complex, though. The one I made was over 400K. Now I have to start again with a simple theme and fewer layers!
