That same thing happened to us when we took the 5 boys out for dinner a few years back. We walked in and this lady and her teen son had just sat down, they sat us at a loooooong table beside them and they asked to be moved!!! HOW RUDE!!!! Anyway we had a nice meal and the kids were fine!!! As we were leaving a couple in the booth near us asked how did you keep your kids so quiet, are they on valium (he was kidding) I said no I am a hag (just kidding, I am but did not say that), anyway they complimented us on how good they were and also said something about the people moving!!!

Know that feeling all to well...as soon as people see a family like ours (with 5 kids), you know they are all just dreading that we will sit next to them.

I was on a 3 hour train ride last Christmas with my three children (11, 9 and 1 at the time). It was packed! A woman got on at a stop an hour into the trip at which time there were very few seats to be had. I took the baby on my lap, smiled at the woman and offered her the seat. You'd think she'd be thrilled considering it was hot and packed. At first she said 'thanks' and then looked (stared) at my boys and the baby and said 'uh no thanks'. RUDE, RUDE, RUDE. Apparently, there was a seat empty behind me too and she sat there. Turned out the woman sitting next to her did NOT stop talking for the whole trip, I mean literally didn't pause for breath and on my way back from the toilet I saw the woman's face looking distraught like she was ready to kill the 'talker'. I felt quite smug considering my children were very well behaved the whole trip so she'd have had a much more relaxing time. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it snobby train passenger woman.
