Hi,

We are thinking of purchasing a DVC and want to stay in one first. We were told to try and rent points. We are starting to plan now and want to know how we will know what days to pick and if rooms will be available. We want to stay at BCV and will be doing it during the low season. Should we start looking when we pick the date?

Help please!

Figure out when you want to go. If it is a busy holiday time (Thanksgiving, Easter, Spring Break, Christmas, etc), you will need to be in contact with an owner 11 months ahead of time to get what you want. An owner can make a reservation 11 months ahead of time at their home resort. If they don't own points at that resort, they have to wait until 7 months out.

Decide where you want to stay.

Look at how many people you will be bringing. If you have four or less ( plus one infant under 3), you can use a studio or one bedroom. If you have 8 or less ( plus one infant under 3) you can use a two bedroom. BWV and OKW also have a grand villa that sleeps 12, but they are few in number.

If you aren't an owner, you won't be able to check on availability.

Keep in mind that low season for point values is NOT the same as low season for demand. Some of the low point value times are hard to get, since they're such a good value. So yes, you should start looking to rent as soon as you know your dates.
