How To Keep A Phone Dry?

i recently got an iPhone and i will be going to Disney in August for 2 weeks, how can i protect it on water rides and from the rain? I was thinking a ziploc bag? that way i can still use it.

Zip locks work well for just keeping it safe for water rides.(just get a name brand one) If you want to really go crazy, you can go to most sporting stores, there they sell water proof camera bags. we use this for water parks to keep camera, phone, money.

that's what I use for my camera, then place it inside my camera bag on rides like KRR
always worked fine for me.

I used a standard sandwich size Ziploc for my BB Storm last May when it was POURING rain for 10 days straight at WDW. It worked very well - don't know if I would trust it for an extended period of time - i.e. water park or pool, but I was able to work the touch screen thru the bag.

If you are looking at something more stylish and protective - take a look at a case called the Otterbox for it - I think they have both varieties, regular case, and waterproof.

On a side note - although since you are asking it is important to mention, a friend of mine lightly splashed his iPhone and it was not in any protective case and it is haveing all sorts of issues now...not turning off, rebooting etc. Apple took one look at it and said this phone has water damage (there are indicators all over the phone - in the headphone port, and an internal one in case it gets really soaked/submerged.

Like everyone else said... take a sandwich bag. I always wear cargo shorts in the parks (never carry a bag) and just stick a couple of sandwich bags in my pockets. While I'm waiting in line for a ride that will get me wet I stick my camera, wallet, phone, etc. in a bag and drop them in my pocket.

My husband has an iPhone and he's not here right now so I hope I am getting this right...

The iPhone is extremely sensitive to water, and shouldn't even be taken into the bathroom with you as you shower, because even he condensation could harm it, and void any warranty you have with Apple or AT&T.

If you are planning on doing water rides, I would suggest putting it into a zip lock bag, and putting that into something else that is water tight.

I know this is something that concerns my husband about our trip in September, especially because of all the unexpected rain.

We use ziplocs for our iphones and cameras on water rides/during rain. We put them in the ziploc then into whatever bag I happen to be using.

If you look at travel sections of stores (even target/walmart) some of them have a soft plastic phone/camera cases. It's kind of like a permanent waterproof ziplock bag. We got one for a few dollars and have been using it for years now.

thanks i will have to look for that, as everyone else has said the iPhone is very sensitive when it comes to water, thats the last thing i need is a broken phone in Disney

I would definitely get one of the specially made pouches for your iphone. DH's iphone didn't work well in the parks anyway. We had to use my dinosaur Samsung (but with a Verizon carrier) to make most calls in the park.

If you are a Verizon customer, get a Casio G'zone Boulder, Rock or Brigade. Not quite the snazziness of an Iphone but it is completely waterproof to 3 feet for 30 minutes (some sort of military spec). Also drop proof from something like 6 feet.

One of my cousins was showing off her Chocolate Touch at a family reunion, we were comparing features. I asked her if hers could do this....and dropped it in a glass of water on the table. Her eyes got so big!
Then I threw it across the patio onto the concrete (not a scratch, has rubber edges) and it keeps on ticking!

If you had to have a phone you can't break and didn't have to worry about on water rides, this would be my choice, just not 'fancy' like an Iphone. The Brigade is a new model with a full keyboard for that thing you young'uns call 'texting.'

anything electronic is sensitive to water. Just use common sense when it comes to electronics. Most people I know won't use there cell phones in the shower. So if it's sitting in a locker (dry) it will be safe. One water rides it's in a ziplock bag and safe. If your that worried about the phone, then just leave it in the hotel room or where ever your staying. This is just what we do.

We throw small ziplock bags into my purse to protect our iPhones, and on water rides, I put my whole purse into a larger ziplock bag. (I carry a Kavu Keeper) Now, I will recommend the Otter Box, just for "oops I dropped it" occasions. We don't use OB's as our everyday cases, but when we are going on vacation or to concerts, they are a life saver!

The Boulder is a pretty durable phone, but I wouldn't keep doing those demonstrations with it if I were you. My brother in law has one and it currently has a busted out front screen and is being held together by electrical tape... that said, it does still work

And on a sidenote, I have thrown my Chocolate Touch across the room (by accident) and it still works. And I used to have a Samsung Alias that got a bath in diesel fuel that still worked. I think it's luck of the draw with most electronics...

We use Otter boxes. They aren't cheap but they work like a charm. All of our cards, phone, etc go in these boxes.

The only downside was it kept floating out of my husband's swim shorts when we were on the lazy river, haha. Time to find pockets that zipper!

I use a ziplock. If you want your keys and wallet and phone, i suggest a Quart sized, NOT sandwhich. Fits nicer.

As for extra protection, Ziplocks are cheaper and work just as well. If you want added assurance, put the ziplock back inside another (flip the seam upside down).

Now if you plan on going to water parks with the bag in your trunks, i'd suggest something more durable, or the lockers.

I do this same exact thing... Cargo pants with extra pockets FTW!!!!

We do bring the large ziploc baggies for the water rides.
However, for those inevitable summer rain storms, I put my poncho on over the back pack. I look like the Hunchback of Notre Dame, but my stuff stays dry.
