How to identify whose ticket is whose to link to MDE

Hi all,

I just posted earlier today and am making some progress in linking some old park hopper tickets to MDE in an effort to make some fastpass ressies for an upcoming trip. We are stuck now because we are not positive whose ticket is whose and tech support won't link our tickets unless we are sure whose it is. Does anybody know how to identify other than getting to the parks and going to guest services? I ALWAYS label our tickets and have no clue why I didn't do that this time.

How old are the tickets?
Have they been partially used in the past?
If so, when was the last time they were used?

The tickets have a 2010 date on them. We used 2 of 10 park hopping days (no expire). Day one was used in June 2013 and day 2 was used to transfer to a Disneyland ticket in August 2013. Because it has biometric data from our June usage day at WDW, we are told that they won't link them to our account unless we KNOW whose ticket is whose.

Add two new names to your MDE: TicketA and TicketB. Use these to schedule FPs and then when you get to the entrance tapstiles, have person #1 use TicketA - if the biometric doesn't match, the light won't turn green so have person #2 use TicketA.

Do you already have MagicBands linked? This will still work as the biometric is linked to the ticket not the MagicBand. You may just have to switch MagicBands at the entrance tapstile.

ltinkso,

I think I understand your logic and this in theory makes sense. Not sure if it matters that DH is not going on this trip, so TicketA or TicketB won't actually get used. I'm not sure if I can make fp ressies for that ticketholder, I would assume that I can, and then they just "don't show up." However, the bigger wrinkle is that I personally can't link these tickets. There is something funky about them. It doesn't work to enter in the data on the back of the ticket no matter how many times I try, nor does it work to scan them. The first line CM at tech support couldn't find them either, but a "specialist" was able to find them. I'm not sure why they were so hard to find. Regardless, they (the specialist) can link them to MDE but I can't. They refused to link them because we didn't know whose ticket was whose. Not sure if it's worth to call another person or not. The first line CM put a note in my account because in the midst of all of this, we were trying to add my son's ticket who is also in the same boat with TicketA and TickeB, but we know it's his ticket because it's a child ticket. They couldn't add it today because once I tried to do so online, it locked the ticket in the system for 24 hours, at least this is what I was told, so I have to call back tomorrow to have them link it. The CM put a bunch of notes in my account, and it's possible they put a note not to link TicketA and TicketB since we didn't know who they belonged to. Hopefully all this makes sense. I just think there has to be an easier way to get this done (if it can even be done in advance at all). Any other advice?

Because the biometric scan is linked directly to the ticket, call and tell the CM that TicketA is yours and TicketB is your husband's.

Book FPs for TicketA, TicketB, and your son's ticket.

Enter the park by scanning TicketA and scan your finger. If the light doesn't turn green, then scan TicketB - as that will be your ticket. Don't worry about the FPs, they'll just expire.

The reason why it probably isn't linking is because DL had to remove an entitlement. DL and WDW have always used different systems... your tickets may be unlinked from WDW's system or else you should be able to link them yourself.

If TicketB is yours, then just switch names in your MDE account. All names can be edited within MDE.

Thank you for your great response. This sounds like a very valid plan. I hope they WILL link them as you mentioned. I will just tell them that DH DOES remember who has what ticket, and honestly, I am about 80% sure who has which one anyways. So what wristbands do I link to TicketA and another one to TicketB? I don't quite know how that works since we have all had AP's for the past year plus, which basically has been the entire time wrist bands have been in use, so I am not quite sure what to do with that aspect. FWIW, we have a number of wristbands that are on the account, given that at least since the last time we went we can't click a box that says "we already have wristbands!"

Finally, just curious what you think I should do if NEITHER ticket will work with my biometrics. I assume the one I have used WILL work, but given the DL ticket scenario you never know.

Thanks so much for your helpful info...

MagicBand-wise: link the ticket you "think" is yours to you in MDE and there is a corresponding MB that is linked to you in MDE. It really doesn't matter which MB you choose (yours or DH's) as the ticket holds the biometric info.

If neither ticket works with your biometric at the tapstile, they'll call an iPad CM over and he will do a reset. So, make sure you have marked "A" and "B" on the tickets to keep them straight - also mark the corresponding MBs with "A" and "B."

Also have ID with you in case they walk you to Guest Relations. It does help that your son is with you as that is additional proof of the purchases made by your family. My daughter needed her biometric reset at DHS because the system didn't associate any of her scans with her CM Main Gate pass. Two days later at DHS, it had to be reset again. It only takes a few seconds for the reset so hopefully that's all that you'll need.

Thank you for the helpful reply. So what I am confused about is why I would use a ticket to enter a park versus just using a magicband? Once I have linked a ticket to me and to DH (and consequently to whatever active magicband we have) wouldn't I just use the magicband, then try the OTHER magicband if the first one doesn't work, to enter the park (versus the ticket)?

But, at the tapstile, the MagicBand links to your MDE where your ticket info is linked. At first, it wasn't clear that you had MBs.

When trying to clear up a problem, it's better if you have the ticket as there will be less "links" that the CMs have to follow especially if the name on the MB doesn't correspond to the ticket owner.

If neither works and they can't reset at the tapstile, it will still be beneficial to have the tickets with you rather than attempting to use the MB. Because non-expiry tickets are not transferable, it would be easier to use the ticket only because you don't know which ticket is yours and DH's and you could link them to the wrong MB.

Okay, I follow you still. So once I am in (with the right paper ticket) (hopefully!), I can use whatever MB is associated with that ticket for fp's and other park entry days, correct? And yes, definitely a good plan to have the actual tickets in case there is a problem....

Yes, after it's clarified that the ticket belongs to you, use the corresponding MB for the FPs and park entry for the rest of your visit.

Hopefully everything works out for you. It's strange that they won't just link the tickets because MDE is just a storage area for all your data. And, you can easily edit names in MDE as well as have new MBs linked if it's an onsite stay.

Yes, it's really frustrating that they wouldn't link them. They made it seem like a big huge deal to fix on their end if we assigned them to the wrong person, but really it's just a name in a system. And as you mentioned, I should be able to edit the names if I need to although it's not even that big of a deal. I will be calling them shortly because my 24 hours is about up. Thanks for your helpful info!

When you say, "they," do you mean just one CM on the phone?

Yes, the CM who wouldn't link them.

Have you considered calling again?
There are many variables and levels of experience regarding whom you speak to on the phone.

Luck-of-the-draw for connecting with CMs can make a huge difference in Disney quality of service.

My plan would be to start fresh.
Don't discuss what you were told on the previous encounter.

Just tell the CM what you have and what you want to do.
