on monday i ended up falling down my porch stairs and got pretty banged up. i sprained my ankle, skinned up my hands pretty bad and got huge bruises on both of my knees. i went to the doctor and everything, nothing TOO serious.

anyway...i have an event to go to this weekend and i have to wear a skirt. but i don't want to wear a skirt when i have huge bruises on my knees. and i'm wearing knee socks, because tights make me itch.

any ideas of how to get bruises to heal/fade faster?? i heard about arnica ointment, but i have no idea where to go to buy it. i checked out some local drug stores online and they don't seem to carry it. any other ideas??

make-up isn't going to work because the bruises are pretty dark. any help is appreciated.

Do you have a Whole Foods near you? They carry Arnica. Lavendar oil is also good for it.

no i have a Tops, Wegmans, .....what about GNC?? would they carry it??

Lavendar Oil? just rub it on the bruise?

Not sure about GNC... any holistic type stores will carry them. Actually, now that I think about it, Bath & Body Works sells essential oils and they may carry an Arnica oil.

Yep for the lavendar, just dab a few drops on a cotton ball.

I was told to rub the bruise with a toothbrush, it helps break up the blood and apparently heal faster....

i heard about that too. wouldn't that hurt tho?? i could just see me sitting there rubbing my bruise with a toothbrush and someone walking in going :confused3 and me trying to explain myself :rotfl2:

They also make make-up just to cover dark birthmarks - I've used it on stage to cover an actor's black tatoo.

That could work for you.

Hope you feel better soon!

First off, I would try the Wegmans Pharmacy section as they carry almost everything!! If they don't have it, maybe the pharmacist will know who does.

If all else fails, what about just wearing a longer skirt? Good Luck, I hope you can find what you need to help the bruises.

I tried that once and it seemed like it just made it spread out more.

Try putting vitamin K creme over the bruise. You can find it at some vitamin/health stores - but it is expensive.

I don't have any helpful tips, I just wanted to say I can sympathize. I bruise like a peach so I feel your pain. And just the thought of rubbing a bruise makes me see stars.

yeah i bruise pretty easily.i wake up with bruises, it sucks. normally i would have put ice on as soon as it happened, but my ankle was throbbing and i didn't really feel my knees hurt until the next day when i went to kneel down and i couldn't lol.

yeah that's what i said, rubbing it with a toothbrush seems like it would hurt.

thanks. i'm going to go tomorrow and take a look see. i called my local K-Mart pharmacy and they were no help at all. but.....it IS K-Mart, so i shouldn't have expected much lol.

nah the skirt i gotta wear is a shorter skirt. i already tried asking that lol.

There's a Burts Bees ointment that works well on bruises, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of it! If you have someplace that sells Burt's Bees near you, check out all the little tins of ointments/salves and find the one that says it's for bruises...

I managed to fall backwards onto a flower pot just a few days before I was in a wedding, and I had huge bruises on the backs of my legs. The bruises were definitely going to show below the hem of the bridesmaids dress, and I was desprately trying to figure out what to do when a friend gave me her tin of this Burts Bees ointment. I rubbed that stuff in two or three times a day for the next few days, and the bruises were much lighter by the time of the wedding. They weren't gone, but they were lighter and less noticable.

^Very cool. I sure could've used that as a teenager. I once fell out of a tree and landed shin-first on the edge of my trampoline. I had a bruise on the front of my leg that went from my knee all the way to my ankle. It lingered for almost a year. I liked showing people to freak them out and see their reactions.

Not going to happen in the time frame you have. Sorry Love. Longer skirt/dress is the best adivce (other than an A1 makeup job). Even asked Dh who was also bruised up often from martial arts. You just don't have enough time.

Myst

I second (or third) Arnica gel..I think it is also in pill form.

Also--I'm not sure if you are supposed to...but can't you ice it?

Can you wear stockings with your skirt?
