My 5 year old couldn't stand wearing it in the heat. Rather than fight with her the entire trip, we had her put it on in line for each ride so she could feel like a grown up matching the mickeys. When we made it past the turnstiles for the ride I would wear it or her father would carry it on a belt loop. I could have lied to her telling her she needed to wear it, I guess, but at some point she would have taken it off in frustration and left it somewhere. That would have been more difficult to sort out than just letting her have her own needs. I needed to wear mine 24/7 so I didn't panic thinking I'd lost it, husband took it off in the room, and child didn't want it at all except for when she needed it.
