We are staying at the Poly and are going to HDDR for the first time :woohoo: .
Any ideas on the best way to get there and back would be appreciated!

Take the monorail OR the boat to Magic Kingdom. Go to the dock for the launch (boat) that goes to both Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. Take the launch and get off at Fort Wilderness. From the boat dock, Pioneer Hall (the site of Hoop) is just down the path, a short 2-minute walk. Very easy.

On your return trip to the Polynesian, I would walk to the bus stop and ask the CMs there if there will be a bus to the TTC. If so, that will be the fastest and most direct route "home." From the TTC it is a short walk to the Polynesian. If the MK has closed there will surely be a TTC bus.

For many, many year there was a bus from the TTC to FW. It was one more advantage of the Polynesian.

We had an early seating and were fearful we'd be late (six of us). We hired a van, right in front of the POLY, cost us about $15.00 including tip, but we got there fast. Driver gave us his card, we called, and he came back for us after HOOP. Could have done this cheaper, but that worked for us.

I would also allow about 45 minutes travel time.

If you just miss your connection I would say about 10-15 minutes for the monorail or boat to the MK and about 20-30 minutes for the boat to FW.

Also on the way back to Poly you can take the Contemporary boat if the MK boat line is too long and hop on the monorail. We did that.

Please fill me in on something, though. From where the van dropped you off, didn't you have to wait for a FW internal shuttle bus to take you to Pioneer Hall?

If you decide to use any ground transportation to Fort Wilderness, allow extra time. You'll have to take a bus to Pioneer Hall. All the busses will stop there, but we ended up using the Orange bus, which has the longest route.

we took a cab to the HDDR and the cab driver was permitted to take us right to Pioneer Hall... no bus needed! (and we were early, very early! LOL!)

Just wanted to note that we were staying at OKW, party of 7 and we went the taxi van route. Like noted above, it cost us about $15 and the driver took us all the way in. Way less stressful than worrying about making all the connections needed. If you are going the connections route, I would allow an hour between the Poly and FW. If I'm not mistaken, I thought the FW boat from MK stopped at WL first?
