How to get oil out of a sweatshirt

Desolvit is what I have used in the past, I have even gotten out crayons from clothes with this. I keep a bottle in my laundry room.

Dawn takes grease out of your way. :rotfl2:

Does anyone else remember that commercial? It really does work wonders on oily stained clothes.

Yes, I certainly do. My daughters name is Dawn and she was quite young at the time, she would answer back at the tv, "I do NOT." and stamp her foot.:rotfl: Well it was funny to her father and I.

I am one of those who keep a small bottle of Dawn in the laundry room and squirt it on a greasy stain, rub it in and let it sit while another load of clothes is going, then throw the item in with the next load. I have found that always works even with an old greasy stain.

If oil splashes on my clothes while I'm cooking I make a paste of baking soda and water and let it dry on the stain. It draws out the oil. I have also used Lestoil in the wash on my daughters coat years ago which had even been washed and put in the dryer before. It took the stain out but because of the strong smell I washed it again.

My DH got salad dressing (vinegar and oil) down the front of a brand new sweatshirt. Anyone have any tricks to get it out? I washed it, but it didn't budge.
TIA
Sorry, I couldn't read through all the posts.
Have it dry cleaned. Dry cleaning fluid is not water-soluble, it's oil based and anything greasy (butter, oil, etc.) comes right out if pre-spotted and you didn't already put something on the spot, even water. I worked at a dry cleaners for 7 yrs through HS and college.
If you already put something on the spot, don't bother taking it in. It would be a waste of $$.

I guess I'm the only one that uses Fels Naptha? It's a laundry bar soap. If dh (it's always him, never me!) gets a grease spot (food) on his clothes I can get it out, even if I wash and dry it before I find it. Just take the bar and rub it on the spot under hot water, lather up the spot with the soap, and let it set for a few minutes. Then wash as usual (I suds it up with hot water, but then wash in cold). Works every time :).

A couple new suggestions, lol. Diet Coke works great to get oily stains out. I have also used Murphy's Oil Soap - that stuff is amazing! It got black tar out of DS's jacket - even the white stripe on it looked new!

Talcum powder or baby powder. Sprinkle lots on the oily spots and it absorbs the oil. Let it sit a while and wash it. Check the stain before drying. I worked in a movie theater in college and this worked great for movie theater popcorn "butter". :goodvibes

This! It will even usually get it out even if you use it after its been washed and dried. Magical!
