How to get lowered rate without canceling previous reservation?

I have been monitoring the APH rates hoping for price drops.

Is there a way to modify my existing reservation to the new lower rate without having to create a new reservation and canceling the previous?

When I tried to modify, the lower rate and room type was not available to me.

You can add a "phantom" child, as long as the room is below the max occupancy. If already at max occupancy, drop a child. Once you modify, you can then just change the number of people back and modify it a 2nd time back to the correct occupancy.

It won't let you modify your reservation if it's the same date/room category and the only thing that is actually changing is the price, you have to make some actual change, and changing the people in the room fixes that.
